Great Optics - Worth the Price!

I love the B&W filters. You get what you pay for, and B&W produces a superior product that warrants the price difference. I did extensive research on filters and have been using this one for almost a year now. There is no evidence on my photos of any distortion from the filter optics and I believe in protecting my far more expensive lens from both unexpected difficult to remove dirt (a COW recently Licked my filter - better to clean that than the recessed area of the lens! You just never know what can happen :-) as well as possible damage to the lens that a filter could in many cases, intercept. There are great debates on the "filters for protection" issue, and I choose to protect my lens, but not at the expense of my photo quality. The high quality optics of the B&W filter allow for protection of the lens without any visible effects on the photos. My colors are rich and again, no evidence that there is anything other than my lens between the subject and the image produced. I am using this B&W UV filter on a Nikon 18-200mm VR lens. I am told that these newer lenses do not need the UV protection, but in any case, it works for me and also protects my far more expensive lens. I plan on buying additional B&W filters for other lenses and purposes.

Great Filter

I know there's a constant debate over whether to use a filter or not. For me protecting a $1,500 investment is worth it. But if you are adding glass to the front of your lens, don't go cheap. You want great optics and that's this series of filters. Solid feel, heavy rim frame. Crystal clear....

B + W 72mm Xs-pro UV Haze Mrc (010M) Glass Filter Specifications

About B + W 72mm Xs-pro UV Haze Mrc (010M) Glass Filter

This UV Filter blocks the invisible UV component of light from the sky, which can cause blur and to which many color films react with a blue cast. These filters should be called UV-Blocking Filters, because there are filters for technical applications that pass UV radiation and block all the other wavelengths.

Nevertheless, the short term "UV Filter" has become established among photographers. UV Filters are ideal for photography in high altitudes (in the mountains), by the sea and in regions with very clean air.

The pictures gain brilliance and disturbing blue casts are avoided. Because the glass is colorless, color rendition is not altered, aside from the elimination of the unwanted blue cast, and no increase in exposure is required.

That makes a UV Filter very suitable as protection of the front element of the taking lens against dust, flying sand, sea water spray and the like, and it can be kept on the lens at all times. It is recommended for analog color and black-and-white as well as digital photography.

This filter uses B&W's XS-Pro Digital mount which is especially suited for DSLRs with wide angle and zoom lenses. It has a front thread for additional accessories such as lens caps or hoods. All XS-PRO Digital mounts are made of brass and are matte black to prevent reflections.

MRC (Multi-Resistant Coating) by B+W is not only an extraordinarily effective multiple layer coating, it is also harder than glass, so that it protects filters from scratches (for instance when cleaning the filters), and it is also water and dirt repellent, thus facilitating filter maintenance.
