Not exactly a solar filter

I bought this filter to allow me to shoot direct photos of the sun. It does work but I don't think I'd rely on it to protect your eyes for long term viewing. I shot a recent solar eclipse and the shots were pretty amazing. But even with this filter, I was shooting at ISO 100, f/16 and up to 1/4000th second. I was a little afraid that I would get some internal reflections because it is only a single coated filter but that didn't happen. I am thinking this filter will work well for some very lo...

I am thinking this filter will work well for some very long exposures of waterfalls and the like. The only thing I would have to say on the negative is that it doesn't screw onto my lenses as smoothly as many of my filters do. The squeaking sound drives my wife crazy.

Good optical quality - causes red color

Good substitute to the lee big stopper. But causes a warm color cast to image (correctable in post processing) compared to lee which causes a cool color cast, it has similar optical quality, sharp even with high resolution image sensor.

Exceptionally even density

Works perfectly to reduce inbound light. While I've not measured the density photometrically, I've seen no flaws or indications of uneven coating.

Great with only a few flaws

By

from portland, maine  -  Semi-pro Photographer

I bought this filter because I wanted to try some extreme long exposures in my landscape photography. I definitely got what I was looking for! This filter turns 1 second exposures into 8 minutes! The only downsides are that you have to compose your shot before you put it on because you can't see through it on all but the brightest conditions. The other downside is that is has a warm color cast, but it's easy enough go fix in post. If you are looking for streaky clouds or misty water, this is the filter for you.
