It works! From experience.
I have always used filters to protect my lenses, but recently I (accidentally) put this filter to the test! It was on my Canon 24mm 1.4 L lens when it fell (sans lens cap) out of my camera bag onto a concrete floor, front side down. Yikes. The filter cracked and looked like a spiderweb, but did not shatter. I checked it out and it appeared that the lens was not scratched. However, the impact had dented the edge so that I could not unscrew the filter. After seeking advice from a professional, I tapped the broken filter glass out while holding the lens upside down. We used a plumbing tool to unscrew the dented filter ring after all the glass had been tapped out. Because we were able to take it off the right way (VERY important if you ever have this misfortune), a $1600 lens was saved by a [$] filter! So I speak very highly of this filter. It is not a detriment to image quality at all, and has proved to be very protective. I'm buying another one to replace the one I broke. :) You can trust B+WP.S. If this ever happens to you, take it to a professional and do LOTS of research before trying to take it off! If I hadn't I probably would ave accidentally scratched my lens in the process. Invest in canned air and the time it takes to do it right. Doing it wrong could scratch your lens.

Great, high quality filter. Very Happy with purchase.
I always protect my lenses with a filter of some type and UV is on most of my lenses most of the time. I read some opinions that some UV/Haze filters were causing color shifts and other problems so I ran this one through some pretty good tests and found that there were not color shifts or exposure adjustments caused by this filter. This was all in manual so the camera was not making any adjustments. B + W simply makes quality filters that you can trust.
I use this filter to protect the Tokina optics. It does not contact the front element. This was tested with a piece of lens tissue in the center of the optics. The filter was screwed into place, and the tissue was free to move, signifying no contact. The filter is very nicely made, and threads perfectly into the Tokina.
I'm one of those old school photographers that believes it's better to clean or scratch or damage a $50 or $60 or even a $100 filter than an expensive lens, so I always have a filter on every lens. I did some very detailed photos with and without this filter and found absolutely not color shift or image degradation. Great Filter.
I never have a lens without a filter on it and the most often used is a good UV Haze filter mostly for protection from dirt and from those occasional bumps. I don't want to touch any of the glass on my lens if I don't have to and by using a good filter it significantly reduces the number of times I have to touch my lens. I unscientifically tested this lens for possible color cast, effect on exposure and, of course, clarity of image. I found it passed very nicely in all three. No color cast, the exact same exposure and no degradation of clarity. Happy to own and to have on my lens.
Great A+ quality lens glass. Made in Germany and shows the German quality.
For me, you can't find a better filter for the money. Excellent quality, well made. All my filters are B&W.

I have tried a variety of filters, although they all do the job, but I feel they are not strong enough to take a beating and feel very light in my hands. I tried the B+W uv filter and the second i held it in my hand, it told me that it meant business. Totally solid build with metal and glass and it gives me the peace of mind when i put it in front of my 70-200 f2.8. Since then i buy only B+W filters. Buy from reputed stores like adorama, there are lot of fakes in ebay.
B + W makes the best UV filters going in my opinion. I use their UV filters as protection on all of my lenses and recommend them highly.
