I have a Canon 60D. I would love to get a macro lens which softens the surrounding. What do you suggest?
I have and use all of Canon's true macro lenses. If you are relatively new to macro work I would suggest that you acquire the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM Macro Auto Focus lens. It is a fantastic prime lens for everyday work, but it really shines using its macro abilities. It can efficiently get you into the magical worlds that close-up photography provides. With it's superior performance capabilities you will find that the wider apertures that you select will be the skill that enables you to focus on the main subject while producing soft "bokeh" backgrounds. The reduced depth of field will make a sharply focused bee on a rose petal appear to hover in a sensuous blurred background. It requires playing around with the f stops until it becomes second nature. Have fun!
