I use a 6D Mark 2 and a 16-35mm f4L for real estate photos and was trying to use the same rig on a gimbal for video home tours which worked great but the weight was killing me. So I added this small, stabilized wide angle prime to my kit to lessen my load and it has worked out great. The extra stop of brightness is a big help too. I have an EOS RP on order now to get the weight and size down further and give me separate cameras and lenses for stills and video which should save me considerable time onsite. Be aware that USM focusing is noisy on video so if you are going to record audio you need a separate mic, but the focus is very fast and accurate so it's worth the extra effort. I have also enjoyed using this lens for personal photo work, it is faster than my zooms and the stabilization is excellent. Very sharp too.

I've been using my 24-70 4.0 IS at 24mm for video and had an epiphany to get this lens instead. So I did and immediately sold my zoom. This 24mm prime lens is profoundly great. Now, on my 6D, my entire set-up is this, the 40mm 2.8 STM and the venerable 135 2.0. I've been splitting hairs for a long time with a lot of lens, but I think I'm done now. Possibly a 400mm 5.6 and it should be a wrap. It's just an awesome lens and I'll be using it a lot for both video and photography; A LOT.

This is a good lens for the price. The focal length is good for recording yourself. It's much slower than the 1.4L, but it's also about 1/3 the price. I only used this for a few weeks, as I have been mainly using a 17-40mm f4L for wider shots, which I prefer. Overall, this is a decent prime for a lens collection, especially when first starting off.

I had an EF20 and a 28mm setting on my kit lens. 20mm was too wide and 28mm was too narrow. This 24mm turned out to be the perfect length. The f2.8 worked well in lower light conditions. Using it on my Canon EOS 5DmkIV Highly recommended.

I use this lens all the time as I try to perfect the star trails shots. I have used this mainly for this purpose, although it is a great wide angle lens overall

The focus ring moves slick without friction...not sure how I like that...and I'm wishing I got an E+ instead of an E, as it feels like I got an old lens instead of a used lens...but seems to work fine...

I bought this lens to use in low light places such as bars for promotional work. This thing is so much better for me than my 50 1.4 or 18-55 and 55-250. It works. The low light capabilities combined with the wide angle have produced images better than I ever dreamed of straight out of the camera. The IS is an extra feature that I haven't used other than for video. Quick focus. Sharp from edge to edge. I've used this for many landscape pictures and long exposures. The lens rarely comes off my camera. It's light enough for a walk around lens. By far the best lens I own. I was shocked that it wasn't an "L" series lens with how sharp and bright it was. Definitely worth the money. I even bought a friend one I liked it that much.

Love this lens! I often shoot Holiday events and it's great for small groups or individuals up close. Sharp, light weight, non-intrusive, and fast focus. I previously used a 50mm and 70-200 but this lens allows me to mingle in the party and still get full length photos with surrounding atmosphere, or step up close.

I own the 24-70 2.8L and the 24 - 105 4.0L. my biggest gripe has been the the lack of sharpness on the edges at the widest angle at 24 mm, as well as the darkness around the edges during indoor group shooting. I purchase the 24 mm 2.8 IS because I was tied of the poor quality of my wide angle group shoots with the 24-70, I must say this lens is a breath of fresh air, I am quite please with the results. I f you find yourself shooting a lot of indoor group shoots, this lens will will make one very happy, I considered the the 24 mm 1.4 L but this is a pleasing cheaper alternative.

I purchased this lens as a backup wide-angle. It certainly does not compare to the 24-70 by any means, but it does provide a wide angle image as low as 2.8.....If you have any clue whatsoever about lighting and camera settings, you can produce some decent images using this lens. I would recommend this lens to a beginner because it's inexpensive, can take images in low light, and requires the user to learn how to steady their hand.

I purchased this lens for landscape panoramic work. The nearly 40mm focal length is ideal for what I am doing. Prior to now I was using an 18~270m zoom. This is an extremely light (weight wise) lens though a little slow light wise. The focal length lends itself to the type of work I do without the front heavy zoom. I lost no speed (f stops) with the change but am able to better hand hold panoramic shots when necessary.

This is a fun lens to throw in your bag. Very little distortion. Easy to get good results. Much better than I thought it would be. Contast is just ok but easily corrected post processing. Sharp pictures. Auto focus is a little noisy but who cares. Price is good. I like this lens!

This lens works quite well in daylight. I was disappointed to see it didn't work as well in low light situations. I did a series of formal family portraits in a church full of stained-glass windows. It seemed to have a problem focusing in such conditions and the result of many of the images were much softer than I had preferred.

A useful wide (but not too-wide) lens on a full-frame sensor and a handy roughly-normal lens on APS-C (I do like the 40mm focal length on 35mm). So it has been quite a handy dual-purpose lens for me.

I bought this for a wider experience. It does get a very wide, clear shot, just make sure you have subject in the middle of your shot. Clear and crisp pictures.

This is a good standard wide angle lens that takes good pictures. However, with this lens you can expect CA when shooting high contrast situations such as bright light from behind the subject. Also, expect to add in some contrast in post production when compared to pictures taken with an L series lens.

24mm w/ the 1.6 correction factor is very close to a full-frame 35mm lens. So it is at least getting there on wide angle. I did a direct comparison between this lens and my Tokina 19-35mm zoom (zoomed to just about 24mm, and I forced the aperture to be the same) and this Canon 24mm is without a doubt sharper. It is light and convenient, does not feel "rugged" but seems to be just fine to carry around in a bag for general use.

Makes a good moderate wide angle lens on cameras with a 1.6 cropping factor. Its compact size is a plus.
