Quite Satisfied

I own the 24-70 2.8L and the 24 - 105 4.0L. my biggest gripe has been the the lack of sharpness on the edges at the widest angle at 24 mm, as well as the darkness around the edges during indoor group shooting. Good for video

By

Bought this lens for my Canon 7D Mark II. Acts like a 40mm on a FF camera. Keeps a low profile, smooth focus. Matches my 40mm pancake lens. Good little lens!

A MUST-HAVE for your APS-C format Canon

By

from Metro NYC  -  Pro Photographer

I'd gave it 5 Stars for the price to performance ratio. For image quality it gets 3 Stars on both ends if the f stop range, and 4 Stars in the middle. It is a must-have if you don't have anything this wide and/or if you shoot video. Remember 24mm is equivalent to 38.4mm on a full-frame camera. The Pancake design is another plus. This is a great general-purpose focal length for almost everything except portraiture's. I love it.

I love this lens!

By

from Georgia  -  Casual Photographer

This is my first fixed/wide angle lens and I am very happy with it! Great field of view and the images look amazing. The small size makes it really easy to fit in your bag. A great lens for "just walking around" and shooting.

Favorite lens so far

By

from Cincinnati Oh

I bought this lens to use in low light places such as bars for promotional work. This thing is so much better for me than my 50 1.4 or 18-55 and 55-250. It works. The low light capabilities combined with the wide angle have produced images better than I ever dreamed of straight out of the camera. The IS is an extra feature that I haven't used other than for video. Quick focus. Sharp from edge to edge. I've used this for many landscape pictures and long exposures. The lens rarely comes off my camera. It's light enough for a walk around lens. By far the best lens I own. I was shocked that it wasn't an "L" series lens with how sharp and bright it was. Definitely worth the money. I even bought a friend one I liked it that much.

Great, inexpensive lens

By

from Minnesota  -  Casual Photographer

This is a great bang-for-the-buck lens. With photography as a hobby, I can't justify spending thousands of dollars on top-of-the line lenses. This lens is fast and works great for shooting indoors when the light isn't ideal. I was using the Canon 50mm 1.8 in those situations, but found myself often backed against the wall trying to fit the action in the frame. This lens solves that. I can't wait to try it on some landscape photography this spring when backpacking too.

Great walk-around lens

By

from Los Angeles

Because of its size this lens is fabulous for travel, walking around and hiking. The 38mm equivalent focal length is a perfect wide-normal compromise. This is the same as the old fixed lens rangefinder cameras used to have. Contrast and saturation are excellent. Bokeh is a bit busy. I took some test shots of trees to get an idea of its resolution. f/2.8 = soft. f/4 = Very good. f/5.6 = Excellent f/8 = very good-excellent. This will probably be my most often-used lens in the future.

STM motor noise is unacceptable

By

from Boiling Springs, SC

I wanted a wider aperture lens for making videos with my 70D, but the autofocus noise was extremely loud, even using an external mic. It was advertised as being quiet, but do not believe it. The 18-135 STM lens and 10-18 STM lens are great, but this lens was a disappointment. Returned item for refund.

24mm pancake

By

from Scaramento, CA

Previous reviews are for other Canon 24mm's. The Pancake STM is just now released and got my copy yesterday. Small (same as 40mm), sharp, small and sharp. Perfect for what it is, small and sharp. Disappointing Canon didn't improve small STM motor over the 40mm as it is audible on my SL1. Focused OK on live view video but will need off camera mic if in quiet environment.

Perfect walkaround lens!

By

from Bonita Springs, FL

Awesome lens! Perfect walkaround lens at a near 35mm equivalent! Pros: - Fast f/2.8 aperure. - Extremely lightweight - on my SL1 w/ battery included the whole thing weighs only 1.16 lbs. - Very low profile. - Sharp in the center. - Accurate color rendition. - Pair this with the 40mm pancake lens and you'll have quite the travel kit! Cons: - A tad soft in the corners. *****5 stars to Adorama for the free overnight shipping. I ordered mine from Adorama last night at 9 PM and it arrived today at noon!

Great event lens.

By

from Portland, OR  -  Semi-pro Photographer

Love this lens! I often shoot Holiday events and it's great for small groups or individuals up close. Sharp, light weight, non-intrusive, and fast focus. I previously used a 50mm and 70-200 but this lens allows me to mingle in the party and still get full length photos with surrounding atmosphere, or step up close.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Does this fit on the Rebel T3i?
DIRK M  Yes, it will fit. But if you're looking to take wide angle shots the EF-s 10-22mm lens would be a better option.
Shopper  Is there any distortion on the sides of the frame?
YEN-KUAN W  Not really. The barrel distortion is very low (if exist). However, I'm using an APS-C camera.
