Bought this lens for my daughter who needed a lens that focused faster and in lower light. She loved it.

We started using this lens immediately. We were very excited and it has worked amazingly. We could not be happier. Awesome product.

Can't go wrong with a factory (Canon) refurbished fixed (now called prime) lens. Yes...it is made of lighter weight materials then its more expensive brother...but this one does a bang-up job for under $90.00.

Doesn't make me a better photographer still need to figure out my best lighting and white balance to make better pictures in low lighting, but lens does capture more in low light.

Works very good, we use for portraits. Buying refurb from adorama is a smart thing to do.

I mostly use the lens for video, and I've found it to be in perfect condition, even though it is refurbished! I feel incredibly lucky to have found it for such a reasonable price. This is truly a blessing to a poor-starving-recent-college-graduate such as myself. I thought I would never be able to afford such a nice lens, or at least not for a long time until I had a paying job. Adorama is my new go-to for equipment!

This lenses are the cheapest from the canon basic line, yet they are pretty got, you get a pretty good deal for this 50mm lenses, I just started using them so I cannot still write a proper review, but until now, they are great for an entry level photo enthusiast like me, they work like a charm.

This lens creates a nice look and is great for low light situations. Its biggest fault is the autofocus, which tends to be slow and inaccurate. But since I mainly bought this lens for video, I have no need for autofocus.

Skeptical? I sure was. But as a refurbished product coming in at under $100, I could afford to be a skeptic and a user. And am I ever glad that I went ahead and put my worries aside and just got the thing already! So, let me start as I start most of my reviews, and say that, yes, my 5-star rating IS based on the price point and anything comparable in this range (there isn't anything else). I am sure that any of the other 50mm lenses are wonderful, as it's just a great lens size with a huge amount of versatility. So, where to begin? Well, first, a friend of mine made fun of me for purchasing this as I already have the 40mm pancake lens (which I also LOVE), but sometimes the 40mm just feels a little dinky sitting there on my really nice new camera, and I have to admit that the manual focus on the 40 is a little stuttery since it is all electronic and not responsive to grasp and shoot. So this 50 has (I think) a much better manual focus than the 40, and I rarely use the Auto but what everyone has said about this 50's AF is also true, that the sound is something like that of missing a gear in your car and gives you that sort of "What's happening?!?!" feeling when you first hear it, but nope! That's just the way it sounds... but, like I said, I rarely use AF and I do prefer the manual focus on the 50 to the pancake 40. Also, it IS built like a toy. The plastic housing combined with the super light-weight of this thing make you almost doubt its very existence, and I have read numerous reports of them giving out pretty readily with regular use. SO, all of that out of the way, this lens is a true TREASURE to take pictures with! The colors are soft yet vibrant, and bokeh is lush and smooth. In fact, this lens gets more time on my 6D than my 24-105 L lens that came with it, and the pancake 40 put together, it's just that much more consistent. And for portraits it is truly a marvel for the money. Some of the best pics I have taken were at a bar where none of my other lenses could grapple with the mix of neon lighting, TV lighting, fluorescent pool table lights, and tungsten all mixing together to make a Voltron of bad-metering and sickly hues from my subjects. But once I broke out this 50 I took some of my favorite photos to date and now it's my go-to lens for indoor, close-range photography. WAIT! Did I mention the video that you get off of this thing? AMAZING! Once again, stunning but soft color and lush bokeh from every angle. For the price (esp. if you can snag a refurbished one like I did) you can afford to put your inner skeptic aside and treat him to some of the greatest, easiest photos you can get.

I bought this because a pro photographer friend suggest that I get a 50mm prime with a low f-stop for shooting people. This has delivered on everything I expected and more! It has even done some close up work with wonders.

Nice lens to get into primes. Inexpensive, nice quality pics, cheap build, but good value.

I have only really been using this for "portraits" and some macro. This is a great starting lens and it delivers wonderful effects. It's auto focus is jittery and loud and gets easily confused.

Ok so I have been shooting for 6 years with DSLR's starting with a Rebel and now a 5DMKIII. I first got a 50mm f/1.8 5 years ago but I dropped it and it died. Yes it was amazing compared to the kit 18-55 lens but I replaced it with a 50 mm f/1.4 which I loved. I solf that for a Sigma 30 mm f/1.4 for my 7D which was better than either. I sold the Sigma to get the 5DMKIII and bought a 40mm f/2.8. Bottom line if you are new you will like the 50 f/1.8 however for a little more I'd get the pancake 40 f/2.8 better construction, great AF and it's steel not cheap plastic.

This is noisey and slow to focus, I actually called canon to make sure that the sound was a normal one.I would definately save your pennies and go for the 50 mm 1.4.But if this is in your budget and you want a 50mm then get it because it takes clear photos ;-)

I bought this lens because it was refurbished by Cannon and in the process individually checked and calibrated, unlike new lenses that come off the assembly line. Before buying the lens I bought and returned 2 new ones and felt my chances of getting a keeper were much better with a refurbished lens because of the inspection. The difference in price compared to a new lens was only a few dollars, but the guarantee was the same length as a new lens and it was inspected before being put in a box and sealed with a Canon refurbished sticker. I've only had the lens a very short time, but have made a number of tests in low light and am very pleased. I'd read evaluations of this lens on the internet recommending it not be used below 2.2 or 2.8, but the photos I got at 1.8 in my tests were just fime. I'm thinking this is due to the fact the lens was calibrated during the inspection process. This is my first refurbished lens but based on this eperience not likely to be the last.

Just bought this lens 2 weeks ago mainly for street photography, as I hate carrying around the heavy L-optics.;-) Great bang for the buck, you can't go wrong!! Used it for a fashion shoot in a very low light (had to shoot @ 800 ISO) 2 days ago, was totally thrilled by the quality of the images... for that price... Amazing. :)

This is a very nice lens for the price; probably the best bang for the buck out of any lens on the market. However, it's cheaply priced for a reason. The casing is all plastic. While it does feel somewhat cheap, it's still well built and doesn't feel like it will fall apart at any moment. I've only had it for about a month, but am loving it so far. Pros: - Great price - light - small - good low light - awesome dof Cons: - all plastic - small imperfection in the lens(possibly due to refurb); doesn't affect performance, however

This lens is definitely the best value I've come across so far - great sharpness, even at wider apertures. It's a real bonus to get down to f1.8 for less than hundred bucks. It's super-light (feels a bit toyish) and SMALL, making it a great walk-around lens. It sounds like it's going to break when it racks through it's entire range focusing, but it won't, so don't sweat it. The "harsh" bokeh gets bashed a lot, but I have had absolutely no complaints about it, especially for the price. It's cheaper than a kit lens and as sharp as L lenses when used properly, so do yourself a favor and pick one up.

This is the lightest EF lens of all at a mere 4.6 oz. (130g). Compact and high-performance, standard lens. Its Gaussian optics provide sharp delineation from near to far focusing distances. The color balance is excellent for a standard lens.
