Questions & Answers

Shopper : What is grey market?MARK P : A lens from outside the U.S.and does not have a US warranty from canon. It is the same lens, and most of the time cheaper.GARY F : A grey market has to do with how a lens is imported into the country from Japan. A USA lens means that Canon USA imported the lens and covers it under their warranty. Grey market means that a retailer, such as this one, has imported the lens directly. The lenses are exactly the same essentially, and I believe that this retailer will cover the lens under the same USA warranty, but you should check with them before purchasing. PS, you can save a lot of money on grey market, and you are essentially getting the exact same lens.SHAUNA L : A grey market or gray market, also known as parallel market,[1] is the trade of a commodity through distribution channels which, while legal, are unofficial, unauthorized, or unintended by the original manufacturer. The two main imported manufactured goods that would normally be unavailable or more expensive in a certain country and unissued securities that are not yet traded in official markets. The grey market item I purchased through Adorama (70-200mm Canon Lens) works like any other Canon item it was just less expensive then buying in directly from the manufacturer's website. I love my lens it's my work hourse!BRETT G : Grey market simply means it was imported direct with no middle man. Thats why it's cheaper. There is NO difference in the actual item. And your warranty is usually through the company selling the item.ERIC M : Grey market is a term which really describes the sales channel used to acquire and distribute the lens. Canon has a sales/distribution organization for each global market which is managed and handled separately from one another. Camera companies can acquire this equipment from within the channel for their geography or from a channel outside their geography. Grey market refers to lens acquired from outside their geography. In both cases the equipment is genuine canon from the same manufacturing line. The difference is in how and where a canon warranty would be handled. Once the warranty is expired, I don't think it matters - you can work with the closest Canon service center near you.
Shopper : is a f/2.8 lense good for football games under filed lighting?ACCOUNTS P : Yes, absolutely. It is commonly used by professionals when they are close enough to the action.MARK P : YES, IT IS A VERY GOOD SPORTS LENS.THIS IS ONE OF THE SHARPEST LENS THAT CANON HAS EVER MADE.ERIC M : This is a very good lens choice for night time football games. Several reasons for this: 1.) The lens is fast f/2.8 and 2.) the lens is a fixed f-stop lens. Combine this with a cannon camera which has a high ISO capability and you will be pleased with the results.JOHN B : Yes. So far I haven't had any problems. I love it!John RTOSHA R : It is a great lens for night games. I shoot football with this lens regularly. The lens performs amazingly.
Tami W : Will this one work with a 450D body?MATTHEW M : Yes, the 450D is an APS-C camera, which will accept an EF or EF-S lens. This lens is an EF lens. Good luck!GARY F : Yes, basically any EF or EF-S lens will work on that camera body. For future reference, when you see an EF-S lens, those will only work on bodies such as the 450D and not on the ID or 5D series cameras. The 70-200mm is an EF lens, and will fit any lens with the EOS mount, so definitely yes!ERIC M : This lens should work perfect with the 450D body (aka EOS Rebel XSi .) When you decide to upgrade the body to a more capable model, the lens will be more than ready to make the switch. This is the Canon workhorse lens that has exceedingly excellent results and consistent performance. There are some distinct benefits to a fixed f-stop lens and you get that here.KEVIN B : It is heavy but will I work beautifully. I have this lens and I am very happy.EMILY H : Yes

Totally Awesome

Finally jumped on the band wagon for this lense. Even though it is a refurb, it looks brand new and functions like it was new. I am just an amateur, but my keep rate for photo's has gone through the roof with this lense on a Canon 80D. Highly recomment this lense.

Refurbished is the way to go

The image quality of my new (refurbished lens is astounding on my (also refurbished) 80D. It can almost see in the dark, focuses fast, and the colors seem to be better somehow. (Hard to put my finger on it.) Refurbished is the way to go -- indistinguishable from new but at a nicer price.

Great lens that performs

I bought this a month ago to use in low light and sports Photography. This lens is mint and I cannot see that is any different from a new lens. I would purchase one for Canon in a heartbeat.

Soft and aberations

The lens has soft focus on shorter focal length end for close targets. If focuses sharp at the longer (200mm end. Also soft and aberations at long distance, high contrast targets at 200mm focal length.

Not sure its focusing correctly

I just got this, so the jury's still out a bit, but my first batch of pictures don't seem to be very razor sharp when I zoom in on them. More investigation needed.

Heavy Great Lens

I have only used it for a couple of days, but I love it. Very sharp and crisp. Heavy to carry around, but the weight is worth it. So far, I can't say anything negative about it.

Love the lens. Been wanting one for a long time.

The lens is easy to use. Having a fast, long lens is great for wildlife and sports. The round aperture makes the background nice and soft when out of focus. Wish I had gotten the lens sooner.

Just buy it!

Stop second guessing purchase prices on lenses & opt for the good glass! There is a major difference that will be seen in the quality of your photos when you purchase good glass regardless of the brand. I just happen to use Canon & Lseries lenses are worth their weight in gold & the resale value is great as glass doesn’t depreciate like camera bodies! “Buy it once, take care of your equipment, & it’s a lifetime purchase & investment!” BTW... this lens is tack sharp!

Excellent glass, outstanding performance, unbeatable by the competition.

The Image Stabilization keeps things so steady that you can shoot handheld at down to 1/60s, maybe further. The bright f2.8 aperture makes this a great lens for all occasions- sunlit outdoors, dim indoors, and it leads to beautiful bokeh for portrait shots in the wider apertures. The Autofocus system is nearly 100% silent and by far and away the fastest I've ever seen out of a lens, even going from the minimum focusing distance to far out. Internal zoom means no moving barrel, which means no dust is getting inside this thing. If you can't get tack-sharp results out of this lens, you won't get them out of anything. There's a reason it's in nearly EVERY Canon wedding photographer's must-have list.

Lifetime lens. Well worth the investment.

Tack sharp even down to 1/60s handheld thanks to outstanding image stabilization. Bright 2.8 aperture perfect for creamy bokeh portraits or darker indoor venues. Autofocus is lightning fast and silent even going from 5 feet away 50+. At first I thought the AF made some noise (far less than any other lens I've used, still) but it turned out that was the IS. With IS off, there is almost ZERO noise out of this incredible lens.Every part feels of quality. Focus and zoom rings are grippy and don't slide around without outside input like on older/lower quality lenses.

Beyond Expectation

I own EF 100-400mm F4.5-5.6L for outdoor photography but want better photo quality for indoor sports, so I purchased this one. The overall performance for skating sport photography is fantastic. The image quality at either 70mm or 200mm end is far better than my friend's photo taken using a non-Canon lens at the same shooting position.

If you needed the F2.8. This is the lens for you.

Sharp, robustly built, stable IS, fast AF. Now with the mark iii help drive the price down more. If you wanted the best go for the mark iii, but If value is what you wanted, i think the difference is small, from what I can gathered, maybe shooting at the light source it has a little more glare than mkiiii.
