Questions & Answers

MARY E : Does this lens have an image stabilizer?JAMES L : This lens does not have IS. I have found it to be extremely sharp though.JACK C : No There is one that has Look for IS in model listingMIKE T : NoEDY R : no, it doesn't.BRYAN R : No, you're looking for the version with "IS" in the name. It is much more expensive.ANDREW R : Unfortunately no this lens does not feature stabilization.
Shopper : can I use it for a Cannon Rebel XS?JAMES L : It works just fine on a Rebel but will be a 112-320mm effective focal length lens on the crop body. This has been a fantastic lens for me both on the 5d and Rebel!BRYAN R : Yes.MIKE T : Yup! It's amazing, you'll love it ;)EDY R : Is an EF lens, so if your camera uses EF lenses it should work. If your camera uses EF-s lenses I think it will work too but do some research in the Internet about it.
Shopper : Can this lens also be used for macro-photography?JOANNE B : Well, the closest focusing distance is about 4 feet. I've taken so pretty good close-up pictures of butterflies by zooming in from about 4 feet and catchinglots of detail, but not true macro photography.RON T : Indirectly yes but you can't get as close to subject as you could with a true macro. This lens does not have a macro setting. Additionally you will most likely need to use a tripod to avoid blur due to weight of lens. If you plan on shooting a lot of macro shots, get a true macro lens.ASHLEY E : This lens is certainly not made for macro shots. However I suppose it can be used in that way, but you would have to be very far from the subject you are photographing.DUSTIN S : Depends on what level of macro photography you want to do. It's not a dedicated macro lens, but with a 12mm or 25mm extension tube you can get some pretty good max magnification (i.e., extension tubes will give you partial macro magnification). If you want a dedicated macro lens I'd suggest the Canon EF 100mm f2.8L IS USM, Canon EF-s 60mm f2.8 USM (if you have a crop sensor), or the 180mm f3.5L USM (the best macro lens I've ever used in terms of image quality).KARL B : This is a high quality lens, but it isn't a Macro Lens.DANIEL M : This is a great lens but the minimum focus distance is almost 4' so not a good choice for macro.

Good bundle, not entirely necessary.

the only added things in this bundle that were useful were the filters, case and lens. Others could keep or lose. Honestly just gonna give them away or resell them as they really aren't of any use to me.

Quality, Quiet, Light, Versatile - Good price

Images look nice. Would recommend a basic filter pack for evenly exposed images. Still learning the perks & quirks of this lens but so far I'm very satisfied. Should be expected with a lens this long, but note that your camera with this lens will likely not fit in a typical single camera case (at least not mine) Best price for a lens of this range & quality.

Very versatile

I have owned this lens for a long time. I purchased it because of its versatility, it give very sharp images, it’s not to heavy, and built like a tank. It’s an excellent alternative to the more expensive ones like the I.S. and the 2.8 version. It’s also lighter. You simply can’t beat it for the price. A great grab and go lens.

Great lens for the right technique

This is based on " Most liked Negative Review". The poster is not very knowledgeable of telephoto lenses. This lens, with or without IS, is one of the sharpest lenses out on the market today. Do your homework. If you want a lens with little "wiggle" at the long end, get an IS lens. If you want to shoot landscapes, you will get compressed images, the lens isn't made to shoot landscapes close up. If you want low light images, the f/2.8 is the lens, with IS to shoot with for consistent low light images. Dont complain about a lens that takes amazing photographs in day lit situations when you wanted one that shoots well in low light. You, not the lens is the issue. You want a low light, image stabilized lens for the price of a standard lens. Know what you want before spending your money on something you're not informed about, and convey that information to your sales person. The specifications on the length of the lens would have immediately told you it's not for NFL games. The 70-300 is, only because it extends to longer than 6". Again, be informed, do your homework before buying a lens. It's called Caveat Emptor--Let the Buyer Beware. I own both lenses, they are professional grade tools.

Just an FYI...

Just an FYI... The color of the lens barrel is NOT exactly as you see on the photos! It is more of a Taupe or Sand color...Totally off from the photos seen. Besides that, it’s a good lens!

Best bang for the buck

This is an awesome lens for the money. It produces very sharp images, auto focus is fast and it is much lighter than the f2.8 version. If you’re into landscape photography, this is a much better option since you will be using a tripod anyway.

One of the best lenses I've owned.

This is arguably one of the best lenses I've ever owned. At decent distances -- say 100-200 feet or more from your subject, the lens captures remarkable detail and explosive color. It's also a tough, sturdy lens that looks like it could take a beating (not that you'd actually want that but you get what i'm saying.) As a heads up, using a relatively light Canon 77D, the lens adds some heft but it's still worth it.

Great lens.

I originally owned the IS version of this lens. I sold it to a friend that loved this lens more than I did. However, a few months later I regretted it and decided to save some money and purchased the non IS version. 99% of my work is done on a tripod as I am a Landscape and Seascape photographer. On the shots without my tripod, as long as I shoot the reciprocal of the focal length and use good technique, photos come out sharp. I used the money saved to fund a trip to the Columbia Gorge.

This is my third EF 70-200mm lens. The first was dropped, the second was stolen. This is a fast lens and will not let you down.

f/4 without image stabilization - NO PROBLEM

Back in the days of film, we didn't have image stabilization, only a steady hand, which is why that doesn't concern me. As far as f/4 is concerned, this slightly smaller aperture from f/2.8 is offset by the 7D Mark II having superb image quality at ISO 10,000 and above. Plus I saved over $ as well.

I love Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L Lens

I love this lens, beautiful pictures straight from f4, contrast and sharpness are just stoning. I don't need image stabilizer, but for those who need this tool for video work, may want to spend a little more. Very recommended

L-ot to smile about.

One of the users I've discovered that nobody has mentioned is as a macro lens. There I said it. I put a Kenke 12mm extension tube on it and just wow! No need to buy the 100 or 180 macro lens as this covers all ranges. I have a 50d crop camera and a 6d full frame camera so all my lenses are very versatile. Range is 70 ff to 320 crop frame with macro as a bonus and this lens is about as much a value as you will find anywhere. I won't repeat all the effusive praise others have written except to say I concur with most of it.

A great Lens

I purchased this lens second hand and must say its perfect! The majority of my shots have been sports shots. And i can't get over how clear and vivid the pics are. I am still learning to use in low light but during a game in the sun this lens is fantastic!!!

Great lens

Great lens. If the 2.8 version busts your budget, then this is a very good substitute. Does not have IS but for the $ I do not see that being a necessity.

Great Lense

By Mike

Lens looks new, comes with pouch and shade. I tested it with my 55-250mm kit zoom lens and the L lens won handily. Images are sharper, colors are richer with better contrast and no noticeable chromatic aberration. Lens is solidly built, there is just no comparison with the plastic kit lenses. This is the most affordable L lens out there. Get it if you are still on the fence.

Glad I made the choice

By GearHead

I decided on this lens after much testing of lenses at my local camera store. I decided on this one, rather than the IS version to keep the cost down. I knew going in that a tripod or monopod would be necessary if shutter speeds were going to be slow. I didn't anticipate that being a problem for me given the type of pictures I intended to take with this lens, but I was just blown away by the quality of the results. The first place I used it was at the National Zoo in DC - WOW, that's all I ca...

High-performance, L-series telephoto zoom lens combining light weight and compactness with an f/4 maximum aperture. Inner focusing and the ring USM enable quick and quiet autofocusing. Also, a circular polarizing filter can be attached and used without difficulty because the front lens element does not rotate during focusing. The tripod collar (sold separately) is the same one used with the EF 300mm f/4L USM.
