I bought this knife 2 years ago and I must say I'm pretty disappointed. The blade doesn't hold an edge and is always coming loose I have to take it apart and tighten the screw that holds in the blade constantly. I'm going to throw it in the scrap bin and buy a Kershaw. Wish I didn't waste money on this one.

I bought this knife with a new flashlight, it looks good, tight, locks rock hard every time and sharp, very very sharp! The only thing that surprised me was the size of the knife it is a big one, it would be a better fit if it was a 3 1/4? to 3 1/2? blade. It is an awesome knife for my backpack or truck not so much for pocket carry. The knife is awesome don?t get me wrong but only 4 stars because of the size.

The thumb stud came up missing on mine. I got ahold of COAST and they replaced the whole knife. I wish I hadn't lost the original thumb stud but their CS is great.

Seems very well built and sturdy,,nice locking featutrs but even with light use itss hard to keep a sharp blade,,blade gets dull very fast and doesnt hold an edge very well.

I actually had the FX411, but that knife is no longer manufactured, so it ws replaced with FX412 along with a presentation box. I really had no idea what the warranty was, so I was just looking to get a new blade for the FX411. I was extremely pleasantly surprised to have received an entirely new replacement knife. Thank you, Coast. That was more customer service than I was expecting.

I love the classic FX411 model, but unfortunately it is no longer in production, however, the FX412 is a nice looking variant.

Its a good quality knife, definitely great value. The wood handle is very pretty. Perfect mix of a good quality knife but not so expensive youre afraid to use it.

All other aspects of the knife point towards a good, quality knife. If you're never going to store/hold it using the belt clip, don't let this review stop you. However, the belt clip points in the wrong direction. On a folding knife of any kind, where the blade doesn't LOCK in the closed position, the belt clip needs to point in the same direction as the blade. Why? Because you're likely putting this on your belt, or attaching to the rim of your pocket, or maybe onto the rim of your satchel. Because the blade is now facing up, the lack of a foolproof close-lock system means that the blade runs a risk of popping open. As such, it can catch on the next thing that slides down past the knife? like your hand. Or your wrist. Which doesn't bode well if an artery gets sliced open. Yes, the mechanism to hold the blade open does also have a divot that falls into a corresponding hole in the knife when the blade goes into the closed position. But it only acts as a strong suggestion, it does not keep the blade closed until it is explicitly opened. Even a quick flip of the wrist is enough to make the blade pop open. This means that if you have it secured on your belt or on the rim of a satchel, even a jump from a moderate height could cause the knife to open up without you knowing. Overall, I am very pleased with the build and quality. It has a firm, heavy weight in my hands, and has a very useful thumb grip for forceful cutting - you are unlikely to lose your grip on this knife. The action is smooth and decisive (including when it gets flipped open via wrist action -- very smooth!), and the wood panels are beautiful in the attention to detail. No rough spots or sharp corners here!

I got this knife as a replacement for my old FX411 after I broke the tip of that knife off prying a metal cover off a washing machine. What a great warranty policy!!! This one is even better than my old FX411. I usually do not like knifes with a pocket clip but his one is low profile enough to not get snagged on everything I walk by. Came out of the box very sharp, opens and closes evenly and every piece is centered as it should be. Another great Coast knife!

I just received this knife as a purchase on line. Extremely sharp right out of the box...Could shave my arm hair. The construction is solid...the blade is sharp sharp sharp...and the design of the handle fits my hand perfectly . However I'm not too enamored with the type of wood and stain they selected for the handle...But that's minor. It's a great product especially for the price. My only real complaint is the frame lock...it's so tight...it takes a lot of torque on your thumb and a little bruising to unlock it to fold the knife back up. Well that and the full one inch of seration on the blade takes away 1/2 of the cutting area from the blade. since we all know you don't cut with the tip of the knife.

I found this knife at a hardware store. I wasn't even looking, but the design/aesthetic just leaped out at me. They were selling it for $18 and after playing with it I thought why not? I had never heard of Coast, so I didn't think much of it, but it has quickly grown on me and although it may not be my toughest knife, I also didn't break the bank and it's quickly becoming my favorite. I'm not a knife guru, and I imagine because of the price it can't be high grade material, but it's by no means cheap, it may be the best edge I've received off the shelf, it opens super smooth with your thumb or a little flick of the wrist and has a really nice weight to it. The kind of weight that says it's legit. Seems well made and it is very pretty. I'll have to check out Coast's other knives. If this is what I get for $20, I'd like to see what more would get me.

I bought this knife and have been pleased with it for such a small price... I honed the edge to a touch under razor and adjusted the flip tension to my hand... I give it a 10...

I have fx411 and it is a great knife! I have been skinning wire with it. It stays sharp a long time and sharpen easy. One of the best knifes I have ever used! Very good product.

This has quickly become my every day carry knife. If this had an assisted open it would be the perfect EDC. After some pretty heavy usage the blade has a slight wobble to it but its not a deal breaker. I wish coast wouldn't use security screws on their handles, it would be a lot more convenient to tighten up in a pinch.

I purchased this knife about 3 months ago at Home Depot, and it more than exceeded my expectations. I have thrown it into trees, used it as a wedge, cut down saplings with very little issue, just to see if I could manage to weaken the blade. All efforts proved fruitless, and I have almost taken it upon myself to use this knife until it breaks or becomes dull. Besides the liner lock being slightly to recessed into the frame for my taste, this blade is more than worth it, and when it does end up breaking (if ever I will immediately come back to this product because of its outstanding price to quality ratio.

The Coast FX412 Frame Lock Folding Knife (4.0" Blade) has a big laminated wood handle on a stainless steel frame. Deep thumb notching on the top of the blade and frame adds even greater grip and control of the knife, helping to prevent accidental slipping. A 7Cr17 stainless steel blade will power through the toughest cutting jobs with ease and is easy to sharpen while still holding a great cutting edge. It has a thumb studs on both sides of the blade make one-handed opening easy; right or left handed.
