Questions & Answers

Shopper : whats the difference in the a and p series cokin varicolor filter?JOHN I : One fits a P series holder and the other fits an A series holder. You need to decide what size holder to buy first, then buy your filters for that holder. I have the P series B-Y varicolor and it is one of my favorite filters.LAWRENCE R : The P size is larger than the A size
Shopper : I would like to use this filter in my two Nikor lenses, 52 mm and 72 mm. If I want to use a filter holder, do I need to buy two different adapter rings, 52 mm and 72 mm? If yes, please let me know the catalog numbers or web link for the holder and adapters. Thanks.LAWRENCE R : Yes, you will need two different adapter rings, but I don't know what catalog numbers they are. You can go to the web site and under "search" type in cokin adapter rings. You should be able find what you're looking for.BROOKE T : I am sorry, but I haven't bought the filter holder for mind yet, but I would ASSUME you would need one, I just haven't looked into it yet, I bought the filter first, sorry.GEORGE L : I suppose you could use a 72mm holder and a 52-72 step-up ring, but that would be a lot more complicated, and probably would be more expensive. So, as far as I'm concerned, the answer is "yes." Buy I do not know the catalog numbers. I suggest you check their web site.JOHN I : Yes, you need two adapter rings, one 52mm (CK52P) and one 72mm (CKBPP72). If you don't have the holder already, you can buy a kit consisting of the holder plus an adapter (each kit comes with a particular adapter size). I have holders permanently mounted on all my lenses. This way, I do not have to mount the holder on the lens when I want to use it. By the way, the B-Y varicolor polarizer filter is one of my favorites, especially for landscape photography. When you first use it, you'll be tempted to turn it up to the maximum setting. Dial it back and make the effect subtle.
Laurens R : would this filter fit a 67mm nikon lens?JOHN I : I use my Cokin P Series Varicolor B-Y filter with the Nikkor UD 20mm, which has a 72mm thread size, and it works just fine. Of course you will need a P Series filter holder and a 67mm adapter ring.DHANACHOTE V : Yes, if you have Cokin 67mm ring.SCOTT M : sorry misunderstood the question - see Kelsey K response above for a better response than my previous. on a sidenote- have been using the filter without the adapter, just holding it in front by hand. It takes some balancing. would recommend the adapter ring as others have mentioned.SCOTT M : Should fit a 67 mm lens. the diameter of filter is approximately 71-72mm not including the plastic frame around lens.GEORGE L : I assume you mean your lens accepts 67mm filters. The filter should work fine with the appropriate Cokin type P 67mm filter holder.KELSEY K : These Cokin filters use a special holder which requires a special adapter ring for the lens you are using. There is a 67mm adapter ring. Be sure to order it.

Blue/Yellow Filter by Cokin

I got the idea for this Cokin filter reading an article online by Ken Rockwell. It was a general article about filters. This Blue/Yellow Filter though caught my attention because of how an overhead sun can cause some harsh lighting. Quite a few photos taken over the years have been with a blue sky and earth-like color. This filter matched that. One can also manipulate the colors, rotating it to achieve more of a blue or yellow color. I might not use this a lot, or the other Cokin filters I have, but I can see it being used...and it would be a must have then!

Fantastic emphasis

This is a great polarizer that allows you to emphasize blues and yellows/browns simultaneously, for example, a brick building against blue sky or beach scene. It can also distort colors, your choice.

Nice Effect

This filter allows one to create anything from dramatic to subtle changes in the sky and background. It helps to create the "feel" of a scene that might be difficult to really nail down otherwise. I like it!
