Great Eye Relief for Eyeglass Wearers

I am using this eyepiece on a Celestron C70 for terrestrial viewing via the standard eyepiece adapter supplied with the C70. This gives me a bright clear image with a magnification of about 18. The feature I like best is the long eye relief because I wear glasses. This eyepiece is longer and heavier, however, than the zoom eyepiece that comes with the C70.

Small field of view

I bought this back when I didn't know much about eyepieces. My limited experience told me that the less power I had the more I could see and I wanted to have a wide field of view. I also wanted a wide apparent field of view. This one advertises 43 degrees but I only got 37 degrees. I would recommend you get the Celestron X-Cell LX eyepieces which have 60 degree apparent field of views. You will see the same amount of sky but it will be much larger. This eyepiece is high quality but disappoint

It worksfor me !

By

I recently purchased this item for my Celestron NexStar 5 SE telescope and I was impressed with its construction and optical quality. It performed well even in the light polluted area of Bergen County where I reside. Also the price was right when compared to other vendors.

Celestron 40mm Omni 1.25 Plossl Eyepiece

By

from Sahuarita, AZ  -  Casual/ Recreational

I enjoy using this eyepiece for viewing nebula, galaxies and other relatively large field objects. It produces a nice wide crisp view. It is also handy when trying to locate objects before upping the magnification.

I use this eyepiece for locating objects that I want to observe at higher magnification, and for observing wide field of view objects. Galaxies and nebula look good in it.

Nice wide view

By

from Oklahoma City  -  Casual/ Recreational

Got this eyepiece to provide a wider field of view from my Star Watcher 130 Newtonian reflector telescope. The scope came with 2 good Plossel eyepieces. The 25mm provides good low power views. However, I wanted a larger field of view to see more of the sky and some wide objects, such as the Pleiades cluster. Using a standard method for calculating actual field of view (apparent field of view, APOV, divided by magnification), I expected the 40mm eyepiece would provide the widest view I could achieve with this modest scope. The new 40mm eyepiece arrived in good time and in good shape with inexpensive shipping. I tried it on the next clear pre-dawn morning. It performed exactly as I expected, with enough extra FOV to see all the Pleiades in the eyepiece at once. Sharp image with lots of brightness. Would purchase again gladly. Adorama had the best price I could find on the web for this item.

Questions about this item:

doug t  will this lens work on a discovery kids telescpoe 1.25in?
RICHARD D  I was unable to locate your scope using the terms: "Discovery Kids Telescope 1.25", so I am not exactly sure what you are dealing with. I would first check to make sure that your focuser accepts 1-1/4" (1.25) eye pieces. You can measure the outside diameter of the barrel that slips into the focuser on one of your existing eyepieces to make sure. Also be sure you want a low magnifcation eyepiece suitible for viewing starclusters and wider areas of the sky because that is where this eyepiece is best suited. I own this eyepiece and it is of fine quality, but I think if i had to shop this category again I would choose the 32mm Omni eyepiece. The 32mm Omni will show you the same slice of the sky but the objects will appear just a bit larger. I would like to quote an article I found on the subject: "The apparent field of view (AFOV) of the 32mm Omni is 52-degrees and the AFOV of the 40mm is 43-degrees, due to vignetting caused by the 1.25" mounting barrel. This result of this difference in AFOV is that in any given telescope the 40mm and 32mm Plossls have essentially the same actual field of view. The 40mm is brighter because it has a larger exit pupil, while the 32mm makes everything in the field of view larger." - Believe me, the difference in brightness at this focal lenth, 32mm to 40mm is a non-issue. In summary, you can't go wrong with either piece at these prices but your best bang for your buck is the 32mm.
