I just love the feel and smell of leather. I bought this case about a year ago directly from MacCase. The case was new for the 17" MacBook Pro unibody and was backordered from most suppliers. The color is in dark vintage, which I guess is no longer available. I paid extra for the back pack straps which is what I use. I tried the strap that came with the bag and it was a little narrow. Now they have a pad that slips onto the strap. I have nothing but praise for MacCase Flight Jacket and MacCase. They didn't have the back pack straps in the color that I wanted so the owner emailed me directly and made sure to have to stain the straps the correct color and guaranteed. that I wasn't satisfied, they would give me a full refund. They did a great job. The quality of the leather and workmanship is top rate and you can't ask for anything better. At the time I purchased the Flight Jacket, they were hand made—I think that they may still be. The stitching is evenly spaced and straight. The parts of the bag are well fitted. You can use the strap that came with the bag two ways—one is to use both top lugs and sling the case over the shoulder and carry the computer to the side, or you can use the top lug on one side and the botton lug at the opposite corner—you can make it a right or left handed bag depending upon which lugs you use. You then sling it over either your left or right shoulder—depending if you set it up either as a lefty or righty. The computer will ride on your back. I would not use the bottom and top lugs from the same side of the bag as this would mean that you are carrying the bag with the top flap on the side and you could have problems. As I said I use the back pack straps which cost extra. As a back pack it rides well on the shoulders. People might think that the bag is too small—this depends upon what you carry. There's room enough for the power transformer in the pouch—but I don't carry it much as the battery is ample for my use. I carry two legal pads, pens and post its in the top flap pocket and front pocket. The back pocket can hold a smaller pad for notes and extra pens clipped to the top. There's room in the top flap pocket for a small hard drive and cables if necessary, but I usually carry a Sand Disk to transfer files. All said, this bag is not for everyone. If you need to carry a lot of extra components this might not suit you. If you travel light and want good protection then this bag is made for you. The Flight Jacket just gets better with age and will develop a nice patina—like a well worn WWII bomber jacked. My rating is *****+.
