Simply works

Pogoplug allows you to build your own cloud-in-the-basement solution in literally no time. Just plugin your external drive, register on their website and you're done. Your files are accessible via any web browser and also from your smartphone/tablet (Android and iOS apps are free). Pros: + Works perfectly as you iPhone photo backup system and catalog; the timeline browsing is perfect for finding some photos you just thought of, but already had to remove from your phone to free up some space. Cons: - The device is not extremely fast; you may definitely wish for a bit faster browsing and access to your files; not a big problem unless you're very impatient. - The only way to access your files is through the my.pogoplug.com website; this may make you a bit uneasy about the security/privacy of the solution. - This is NOT (at least it wasn't in my case) the E02 model which is ArchLinux capable. It's more like the P22 model (although it doesn't say it anywhere on the device); you only get 128MB of ram and 800 MHz CPU. Probably not enough to use it for anything else than the built-in, optimized software. To be fair: I didn't try putting the ArchLinux on it. I found it hits the limits of the hardware on the E02 (pink) model. Overall at this price point you can't go wrong. At the very least you get an automatic mobile device photo backup system, which works very well.

Nice while being blown out

By

from san jose, ca  -  Value Oriented

If you know pogoplug, like it, and want to have user shares, this is the device for you. Also, its an E-02 model, so you should be able to install arch linux if you don't like the onboard firmware.

Questions about this item:

RICHARD M  will this when used with phone an computer connection. get a internet connection?
NAVEEN R  You need to connect Pogoplug to your Router or Modem using the ethernet port - this will make Pogoplug be available online. If you could be more specific about what you intend to do, maybe we could give you a proper response.
Shopper  I read customers review. Some people said this model is E02. And another people said this model is P21. What is actual model number?
Eddie K  I bought a similar one here before and the model number on the box was different from the hardware in the box. I have read similar stories from other customers. I have never bought this model before though. At that time they did not send me the model number they were listing on the site.
prakash g  I connected Western Digital My book USB 2.0 drive to it. Everything works fine.I can see it as network drive in my computer too (via pogoplug windows application). but the drive never spins down. drives are supposed to spin down spindle after certain inactivity timer. btw, it was spinning down with Windows machine earlier. is it normal? is there any settings?
JACK C  Sorry, I cannot answer your question. I'm not that tech savvy.
