I love these things

This is the third one of these I have bought. If you want to use the PogoPlug as a personal Cloud Server, it is a bit slow and I wasn't impressed by the software. This is the third one of these I have bought. If you want to use the PogoPlug as a personal Cloud Server, it is a bit slow and I wasn't impressed by the software. But if you install Debian Linux, the sky is the limit. Webserver? Check. File server? Check. Photo Gallery? Check. Webcam? Check. Motion detector? Check. WiFi access point? Check. Audio streamer? Check. Get the picture? With Debian Squeeze the PogoPlug will do ANYTHING while only consumming 4 watts. But there's one small catch. To install Debian Linux you need the second edition (E02) of the PogoPlug. It has twice the memory as the newer ones. It uses a single-core processor, but the boot code has been hacked so that any idiot (me, for example) can install Debian. But the Adorama PogoPlug is a P21, you say. It so happens that the Pogo folks are shipping the P21 with the model E02 inside it (identified on the bottom ski). Some people get upset and feel cheated. They try to return the item to the manufacturer even though the older (bigger) model does everything the newer model does. Me? I WANT the E02. I have 3 already and today ordered a 4th. All P21's. All E02's. If I could be sure that none of them would actually be the newer models, I'd order 10 more. This product is a steal.

Very slow speeds.

First one died on first use. (Adoramam has really good RMA service.) Second one is working but the speeds are painfully slow.

POGO-P21-great mobile back-up solution

By

from Columbus, OH  -  High bandwidth user

I use the POGO-P21 to automatically back-up photos from my iPhone...added a cheap USB2 HD, connected the Pogoplug to my router, and it just worked. No subscription fees...great user interface...what a great back-up solution at a great price.

Useful as an ArchLinuxARM server

By

from Dallas, TX  -  Low bandwidth user

I'm setting up my PogoPlug as a server for my home network. I'm learning Linux networking as I go, following online instructions at http://benjaminbordonaro.com/bb/page/PogoPlug-Linux-Server.aspx and the wiki.archlinux.org site. The setup has gone well so far. I've set it up for my home network, and plan to configure it to be accessible via secure connection from outside my home network. Can't beat the price for a home network server.

Works Perfectly

By

from New York City

This device works perfectly, exactly as advertised, at does so at an almost "giveaway" price. I use it to share large, confidential files with a colleague 100 miles awy and as a result no longer have to mail CDs. I have no problems to report.

1. Sign up at Pogoplug.com 2. Attach any hard drive. Plug it in to ethernet port on a switch & power it up. 3. Go to Pogoplug.com and activate Done - It's very easy to backup all your stuff in your own site

Great device

By

from Denver, CO  -  High bandwidth user

I've loaded Archlinux and learning a lot about installing different kinds of programs. Before that I tried the standard software that came with it and that was good stuff too. It's been a great investment so far.

Overall Happy - hoping for some software

By

from Salem, NH  -  High bandwidth user

Seems to be working fairly well now for streaming music. Occasionally skips a song halfway through. Does not work well with a disk drive but seems to be much better with a flash device. After a recent upgrade to the PC software, the PC interface now works flawlessly. Hopeing future upgrades will fix remaining problems

Excellent product, works flawlessly

By

from Atlanta, GA  -  High bandwidth user

I have 4 laptops and 3 desktops in my home network and a 500 GB hard drive connected to the pogoplug device. I have quite a few songs, pictures and videos in it. The songs and pictures work right for the most part, the videos are another story. They have to be optimized to play and bigger videos usually take pretty long. Once optimized, it works perfectly. All in all very happy with the product.

Excellent Product

By

from Jamestown NY  -  High bandwidth user

Very Easy To set up and access. Great for accessing your files on the go. Really nice that it shows up as another harddrive on my computer so i can run files right from that drive. The only down side I have really found is that it runs its onwn media player so it can only stream certain types of media files when I stream media on my android devices.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Could this be a substitute for iTunes Match? (Or whatever apple calls the cloud based music storage.)
ZARINA S  yes, but as I saw, playing music from there is limited by your internet connection speed ( however, you can download it to local drive and then play). It is very handy thing to have - what do you lose - 20 buck?
Shopper  Can i access the files from my iphone??
SAMUEL G  Yes. I suspect you could access everything from a normal iphone web browser (safari or other) but even easier is the pogo plug app (free).
Dick O  If I wish to have someone in another state access data from my drives can I give them a password/access to download files/pictures to their device(s)?
ZACHARY M  Yes, there are options for you to send a hyperlink, that will have an expiration time on it along with password protection. I do not do this often with my device, but I have in the past, and from my memory, you cannot share your entire drive, just specific folders or file.
