CHINMAY P : So If attack a External Hard Drive to this device, I will be able to access it lets say in my other house 30 miles away, or at work 5 miles away?SAGAR S : Yes, it makes like your personal cloud storage. Access from anywhere as long as its online. I store all my pictures on it and can use it from workplace and edit them.MARK W : Yes. You can access it anywhere you can get an internet signal. From your phone etc. To access from your phone or tablet, it's best to download the app. You can get access to your files from any internet connected computer by logging into pogoplugs website. ANGEL A : Hi, Yes. This uses the internet as a pathway to get to your storage devices. So any computer, tablet or smart phone with internet access and a web browser can access your files. I've used internet explorer, google chrome and firefox successfully. Also, I've used the default browser on my Android tablet. The only time it doesn't work is when your home internet access (or wherever you have the pogoplug set up) goes down. Let me know if you have any other questions! :-)AVIAD S : from anywhere in the world that you have wireless axisWILLIAM M : Yes you can access the files on the drive. Pogoplug want you to sign up for their cloud service but you can get a limited free subscription. I think it is a really neat device as you can connect multiple hard drives as well as an SD card and USB sticks.KENNETH S : If you connect it to the internet, you can access it anywhere you have an internet connection.NATHAN P : Yes, you can get to your files from the pogoplug website or on a smart phone with the Pogoplug app.DAVID G : Yes you can connect with your remote drive in two different ways. Probably the easiest, and most common is to use the web interface. The other is to use the Pogoplug software to create a virtual drive on your PC. Of course, fhe speed of your internet connection will determine how quickly your files are transferred. One caveat, I have used this very little and there may be glitches I haven't encountered.RAM J : that is correct ..there is a bit of a set up process involved but you can connect upto 4 storage devices to this version of pogo plug and access them remotely as long as you have access to the internet.VISHAK H : Yes.. through the web or through the mobile app for ios and android.KAMSHING L : Yes, you can access your hard disk anywhere where there is internet provided. The only thing you should care about is to safe guard the information in you hard disk because it could be hacked easily over the internet.DZUNG V : I think you should be able to access Pogoplug at your other house provided that you have internet access but you may not be able to access it at work. It is all depend on your IT at work. If your IT does not block the access then you should be able to. For me I could not because my IT blocks the access to my Pogoplug at work if I use company internet. If you use your own data plan then you should be able to access your Pogoplug anywhere as long as you can acess Pogoplug web site.CHINMAY P : IS there no Pogo App on the desktop? Would I be able to click said pogo program on desktop to access movies, excel files and such from a desktop computer? is my main concern. so I don't have to take a flash drive to work everyday.KHAMSOUK M : Yes you can with the pogo app for android or ios and they also have it for windows and mac. Its pretty easy no firewall configuration on router. However I cant access the drive like a typically NAS device or shared folder through Windows network. I have to use the Pogo app.
Shopper : Is there an annual fee to use this product?GERALD R : You can use the device without an annual fee. Annual fees can apply to optional services. I do not find the optional serveces necessary for my needs.ANGEL A : Howdy, So far, I haven't had to pay any annual or recurring fees for this. I've had it since October of 2013. They do advertise some of their other devices on the pogoplug log in screen each time you log in, but it's not annoying as of yet. -AngelDAVID H : No fees. You buy it and it's yours. It is not a internet media service provider device. You connect your own external hard drives to via USB and connect the unit to your network which allows you to access those hard drives from anywhere in your home/office or accross the internet. They also provide cloud storage which would cost a fee if you use more than the 5Gb of space they give you for free.STEPHAN H : No, not with the basic services, although you can upgrade if you wish.
Shopper : 1.Can I see the harddisk/SD cards attach to pogoplug in a windosw 8.1 machine that is in the local network as regular drive ? 2.If so, what is the speed of copying form the win station to the attach harddis ? 3.Can xbmc client or smart-tv can access the harddisk/SD cards attach to the pogoplug ?ELI G : No you can't see the attached drives as regular network windows. You need to go through the Pogoplug web interface. That being said, there are ways to basically hack into the Pogoplug software and upload SAMBA protocols to the operating code and make it do what you are looking for. Once you install SAMBA on the Pogo you can share it with your other network devices. Google search "aaronrandall pogoplug"MARILYN M : I don't exactly know your questions but hopefully this will help. The drives on the Pogoplug can be accessed in 2 ways: 1. using their driver they will show up as a drive in the OS. 2. you can share individual folders/sections or drives and they can be accessed through a unique semi-secure web address (similar to google docs and pictures and such). As for the speed, you are connecting over a network connection so it very much depends on the speed of network you're using (on both ends). My experience is that it isn't the fastest for transferring large amounts of data but for viewing individual pictures it works fine. But I'm also accessing using my laptop over a wireless network.AVIAD S : I tried it with Win7 and all the devices conncted to the Pogoplug are identified as Network drives. 2. The speed depends on the Upload and Download speed of the internet on both sides. My upload speed at home is 1.5mb/sec so it is not sufficiant for playing movies online. You have to download it localy and then play it. I did not try it locally at home. 3. I have Samsung Smart TV and they don't have application to see it on the TV but you can connect a PC to the TV that can access the Pogoplug. I hope it helps.

Great Product

Setup is a simple as it gets. Plug it in,download the software and your up and running. I have two USB drives plugged in and have been reliably accessing them since installing. Only downside is your bandwidth is limited by your router, so it's best for background tasks.

Easy cloud and Optware server!

Setting this up was a snap! Using the pogoplug app and webinterface to access and backup stuff is excellent, but a bit limited out of the box. Instead of installing Archlinux (did that on another pogoplug), on this one I simply installed Optware to add functionality such as: Samba, CUPS (AirPrint) etc. retaining the standard functionality! A tad bit underpowered, but otherwise top notch for reusing old SATA/USB drives for the cloud etc! http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/Optware/Packages http://blog.qnology.com/2013/11/how-to-install-optware-and-samba-on.html

Plug and Play

My first unit arrived DOA but with outstanding service from Adorama I got it replaced in a few days. Just plug it in, activate it using your computer and off you go. Work great on IPad3, Android and Desktop. It has built in video and audio player so you should be able to play music and video right off of your android or ipad without having to download any additional app. The video is a bit choppy but other than that I am happy with this device.

Nice little media sharing device

The device comes with one SATA and three USB ports so it can attach to many devices directly. Out of the box it can be used for media sharing. But I bought this because it can be loaded with Archlinux. That turns the device into a powerful low power Linux embedded device. I used it to offload media and printer sharing from my router since it tend to choked up whenever I use USB sharing. Transfer speed is pretty much limited to 40MB/s due to the weak CPU. But that's still more than I would ask for in a low end device.

Well it works, but not on all hard drive

I needed a way to have access of documents on multiple devises. I purchased a Toshiba Canvio USB 3 drive that came with a free license for the Pogoplug software. At first when the drive was connected to my computer it worked great. I installed the free software on all my portable devices. Everything was working great. The only problem that I had was my computer would have to be on 24/7/365. Then I found the Pogoplug Series 4 Media sharing device. With a USB 3 ports and being a standalone, this was the answer. But that was when everything started to go bad. 1) It could see the drive on all my devices, but I couldn't do anything with the drive. Read or write to it. 2) On my computer I received a software update for the Pogoplug. Now they want me to purchase a new license for the software. 3) Tech support has no clue on what the problem is. There blaming the Canvio drive, even though it works on the computer. However, I did get it to work with everything but a USB 3 hard drive or USB 3 flash drive. As for the free software license, I uninstalled the new software and I'm using the original software. Would I recommend this item? Yes, I think it's just a software glitch they missed.

It works

It is a little faster than previous versions, with more ports and connection options. Works as a good backup to your machine and media access

Won't recognize USB3 drives

This would be nice if it did what it was supposed to. It will recognize the USB3 drives on the USB2 port, but not on the USB3 ports. It will recognize USB2 drives on the USB3 ports. The bottom line is there's no way to get USB3 speeds, which is why I bought it. This seems to be a common problem, although most report it recognizes the drives and then drops them.

Works great

Just plug it in and bingo, it works. If you plan to put a lot of data on it, I suggest to copy the data first by pluging in your memory device to your computer to transfer the data.

Great for linux as well

I've used it for it's intended purpose and it's great for that but i find much more use after installing Arch Linux. I've got mine setup as a router after adding a usb3.0 wireless card and a usb3.0 ethernet adapter. Very low power usage and much more powerful and flexible than my last router

Perfect for Arch Linux

Hacking Arch Linux on this little box was incredibly easy and allows it to act as a great little embedded linux box. This turns it into a simple NAS, cloud file sharing device, print server with Airprint & Google Cloud Print support, and more. The pogoplug software can still be used under arch linux as well. This model is not as fast as the E02 pogoplugs, but those are getting hard to find new today. This device is also much smaller than the E02 and has integrated SATA, 2x USB 3.0, and an SDHC slot.

Awesome in the Cloud

It was as easy as stated to connect the pogoplug. This will be awesome for our vacations by being able to upload pictures for family and friends to see. Also great for accessing documents that I should have with me but don't when I'm away from home.

Cheap, but somewhat slow, offsite backup

I use this for backing up photos off-site (not at my house). So far, it's been fine. Setup with backup software is taking some time to get right, but ultimately not a bad, cheap option for off-site backup.

Great cloud device for personal use

This is a great product for storing files you may need at a moments notice. I use it with my Mac, Linux and Wondows machines without any issues. Great for iPhone and iPad storage as well. I only wish there was a way to put an on-board storage device in a more permenant area, like an internal bay that can be closed.
