Review Summary
The Carson XM Series 10x50 BAK-4 Prism HD Binocular is the largest and brightest binocular in their XM HD series of ultra-premium roof prism units and it won't disappoint. The star of this series is Carson's own unique HD lens coating technology for the objective lenses. a costly and durable coating, it makes the lenses easy to clean and most importantly gives them an excellent average light transmission in the most demanding conditions of low light. The 5deg. field of this binocular remains sharp and crisp, with uniform brightness, across a large percentage of the viewing area-given its oversized 50mm objective lenses, the 10x50 XM HD is a great choice for astronomical use.
As the 10x50 model in the XM HD series, this unit gives a view that stands out from the rest. A 10x50, especially when compared with the more common 8x42, 10x42 and 8x32 models, gives a particularly bright image when observing animals below a tree canopy or in front of a busy backdrop. The depth of field in the 10x50 is decidedly narrower than the 42mm and 32mm models and in the right situation (when you want to see only the wildlife and nothing behind it) the 10x50 shines as the larger and heavier selection which rewards with the more bold and stunning viewing.
