Ordered two units. Use them as remote slaves for my Nikon D5000 with either its built in flash or the add on flash. Great for lighting a largr room by staging the units near the outer limit of the on-camera flash, thereby extending the flash range. Have several times used them as fill or main or background lights in location portrait shoots, and at high school basketball tournaments , mounting them over the scoreboards near the baskets to give a dramatic high angle lighting effect. Only took about an hour of experimentation to learn to get the best use of them. Also used as a flash extender on a backup point and shoot Canon for family birthday party to get bounce lighting not available with built in flash. Several friends who have only P and S cameras asked how to get the unit for their cameras.

I bought this to use as an off camera fill / main light with a Canon G10 and a Canon XSI. The flash works more consistently with the G10, but doesn't always sync with the XSI (it probably fires varying numbers of pre-flashes).The guide number is a mystery to me. I have used this handheld and on a stand; for direct flash, with a sheet of paper for a diffuser, bounced off ceiling and wall, and a silver umbrella. The output decreases in this order with direct being fairly harsh and the umbrella fairly weak. I prefer bounce and diffuser. For playing around it has been fairly consistent. It does occasionally misfire and fail to sync, so I wouldn't rely on it for more that hobby use.The flash as one power level and can be used as a hotshoe flash (no way I'll risk firing this on camera as I am unsure of the trigger voltage). It also has a swith to sync with 1 to 4 preflashes. There is a flash exposure calculator as well, but I haven't used that. I prefer to use test shots to adjust exposure.Build quality is what I would expect from a [$] flash, I wouldn't want to drop it. It is nowhere as sleek and reliable as my Canon 430 ex II, but it was $230 cheaper. If you are a hobbiest or student and want to try off camera lighting for portrait, still life, or closeups; treated gently and patiently this will be great tool. You can vary flash exposure by adjusting distance to subject, bouncing, or varying the thickness of a diffuser (tissue paper vs different weights of printer paper). If you need a reliable flash for a demanding environment, look at something else.

I used this slave flash to help reduce shadows for a wedding. It helped to eliminate the shadows my regular flash produced.

Didn't know that it has adjustments on back and 3 levels of tele adjustments too (close-med-distant). Works great and recharges 2-3 seconds! Brand new, I hope it lasts. Bigger than I would like but my price. Instructions = almost non-existent. Going to use it more than I thought but probably not attached to camera (will just set it down on something)

I USE THE FLASH AS A FILL/BACK LIGHT. THE SENSOR WORKS WELL, VEREATILE MOUNTING, HOWEVER THE METAL THREADED ADPT. CAME OUT, IT'S PRESSED IN, I THREADED 1/4 X 20 BOLT IN THEN PRESSED IT BACK IN, THEN I FILLED THE AREA WITH J.B.WELD. IT WON'T COME OUT NOW. GOOD FLASH OUT PUT FOR A CHEEP FLASH.

This is a great flash for the price, just what I needed in a slave flash!
