I am a professional filmmaker. I use the Echo AudioFire4 for many reasons, but the reason I originally purchased it was to feed an amplified level to video cameras so as to keep the low quality camera preamps gain level as low as possible, thereby elliminating their noisy characteristics... And it works GREAT for that. I did a lot of research before making the purchase, and I was trying to get the same clean sound that I got out of my M-Audio DMP3, but in a unit that could be powered by an external battery. BTW the DMP3 speced out as good or better than units Way more expensive and was super clean. The Echo is super clean, like the DMP3, and I can power it from an external 12V battery for hours. The only con that I have discovered is that the gain knobs are plasticy and the pots for mic gain are not as smooth as the one for the headphones. With that trivial matter asside, I love this unit and it has saved my butt on many occations!
