About ExpoImaging ExpoAperture Depth Of Field Aperture Guide Hand Calculator

Sharper Images and Selective Focusing... The Expo Depth of Field Guide is the simplest and fastest way of determining the best aperture setting for selective focus in any situation with 35mm and 120 cameras. It is calibrated to work with 18mm to 400mm focal length lenses. You can determine the maximum usable aperture and precise focus point for all depth-of-field circumstances. Gain better creative control over your images with the quick reference depth-of-field focus guide.

The Aperture Guide is a small hand calculator made of very durable plastic, not much larger than a credit card. George Wallace invented it as the companion to the ExpoDisc, to (almost instantly) give a deep understanding of how aperture size affects detail and focus-you know in seconds which f/stop is best for all lenses, and where to set the focus to get exactly what you want.

The ExpoDisc gives you control over exposure and in determining equivalent exposures-in seconds. The Expo Depth of Field Guide tells you how to shoot 4X FASTER THAN AUTOFOCUS FOR THE SAME EXPOSURES (takes 20 seconds), and IT GIVES MUCH GREATER FOREGROUND DETAIL THAN AUTO FOCUS.

PRESETS. In low light levels it saves shots which are otherwise impossible, it lets you get all shots with much less 'noise' (a finer grain image) than autofocus, and when you shoot 4x faster you prevent blurred images caused by movement (hand movement during exposure, or a moving subject).

It tells you in seconds how to get shutter speeds four times faster for the same depth-of-field and the same amount of exposure than you will get when you focus on the nearest subject in the picture. If you use an auto-focus camera, your shutter speeds are up to 4 times slower than necessary, and your aperture settings are 2 f/stops smaller than required for depth-of-field control. This wastes ¾ of the film speed and ½ of the depth of field, prevents shots at low light levels, and often creates problems with image sharpness.

Camera motion during exposure is the most common cause for blurred images-and faster shutter speeds can help prevent them. The Expo Depth of Field Guide tellsyou at a glance the largest aperture you can use for the desired depth of field, and where to set the focus to get exactly what you want. So you know in seconds the fastest shutter speed possible with no loss in exposure- for all lenses from 18mm to 400mm, and for all situations (starting as close as 12). There is a separate macro wheel segment indicating the additional apertures required for macro photography with image magnifications ranging from 1:4 to 4:1.

If your camera lens doesn't have a depth-of-field preview feature (a lot of lenses don't, especially zooms), or if light levels are too low to effectively use depth-of-field preview, the Expo Depth of Field Guide can save the day. It is fast and easy, and works nicely in three directions.
