Hernando R : Does someone Knows how to use the build in slave? Help me please!!!WENDELL H : Put you flash on slave mode , remember you must have a master flash to help to control flash when in slave mode
Hernando R : Hello! Could someone tell me how to set this flash to slave? thank you!!!ALISON K : hi, I actually attempted to use this and had difficulty. I may return this item or go to the store and have someone assist me with how to use it. I was confused by the directions. I am so sorry.
jacob w : Does this flash work on the Nikon D5100 "ON" and "OFF" the camera?JENNIFER U : I do not know if this will work with the d5100 on and off the camera. When I purchased this for the d800 I was unable to use it as it was not compatible with my ttl settings and I ended up going with a different flashCraig E : I've used this flash with my D5100. It will work on camera in full TTL mode. I've used it successfully off camera in manual mode as both an optical slave and with radio triggers. I've not used it with TTL enabled radio triggers, or with Nikon's commander IR technology. It's worked fine for my uses. The only negative is that it seems to cycle itself off too quickly. You'll be shooting and suddenly realize that it's no longer firing and has switched off.ANDREW R : Yes, this flash should work with the D5100.

Amateur photographer

Bought this on recommendation from an Adorama sales rep. So far so good. I do find it a little more complicated than I hoped. I thought I would be able to attach it to my camaera , plug in the flash lights and it would work. But no such luck. Directions aren't for amateurs. But I figured it out eventuually and for the money, I'm happy with the purchase.

Good Inexpensive Flash

This flash provides outstanding value for those of us on a tight budget. Performance is very good and features are equivalent to brand name flash units costing twice as much. The case is made of a lighter weight of plastic and most likely will not stand up to a lot of rough treatment; but, for a [$] bill, I can afford to be careful with it.The Adorama specs say the recycle time is 8 seconds on fresh alkalines. My experience is that it recycles in less than 4 seconds on fresh batteries and nothing as long as 8 seconds until the batteries are almost gone (55+ flashes).

It works well for a background flash...

I bought this flash unit with the specific need of having a cheap slave flash for kicker, hair light and/or a background light. With the built in optical slave it works well in that regard however the unit feels very cheap and the menu design is poor. I usually set it once and pretty much leave it unless I need to change it for exposure changes. The power output is average as well.

I like it enough that I'm buying another

Among other uses, I like useing it for bouncing the flash off the walls & ceilings. I plan on buying another one, & use both at the same time.

Flashpoint FA940 TTL doesn't work

TTL turns on automatically but does not give good exposure; mostly badly overexposed at short distances (2'-5'). I didn't bother to test longer distances or slave function. I used a Canon T2i (which works great for close-up flash using 10 year old Canon 550 EX flash). The camera LCD says the flash determines flash exposure but there is no way to set exposure on Flashpoint as there is on 550EX.

Plastic Junk

The first time I tried to use this flash the flimsy clip holding the diffuser fell off and fell into the body of the flash rendering it useless. This flash is cheaply made. Spend more money and get a better built product.

You get what you pay for.

Inexpensive yes, but rather limited in use. Will NOT work in ETTL when in Slave Mode. Only works in manual, with optical rather than IR sync, when in slave, so beware. If you're looking for something will go head-head with a Canon 430EX you will be disappointed. Will make good units to put on a stand and use as rim lights, or filling dark spots in a room, but nothing where I need real control. Overall, I'd say save your money and buy a Canon 430EX or Nikon equiv.

Cheaper twin of Vivitar DF-383

I have this flash and the Vivitar DF-383 and I can say that they are identical flashes aside from brand names. I believe that Adorama.com managed to find the same manufacturer Vivitar uses for the same flash. However, the plastic body does feel slightly cheaper than Vivitar's but that might be just a minor discrepancy. The power output is identical as well as all the features and capabilities it has. It did not come with a leather pouch as the Vivitar did but then again, that probably saved me the [$], so who cares. I tested them together and they work great, I would buy more (and probably will soon) after some more test shootings and if the price stays significantly lower than Vivitar's DF-383. Just be careful how you handle the flash, the base is made of plastic and can break very easily, thankfully there's Krazy Glue (which works well to fix plastic bases). I've broken the Vivitar DF-383's plastic hot shoe foot from when a light stand pole slammed down into the shaft and the momentum and weight of the speedlight caused it to bend and break the shoe mount. Fortunately, instant Krazy Glue Advanced Formula worked well to hold and bold it back together.I bought this over a monolight because I realized, for my needs and style of shooting, it's more beneficial to buy more speedlights than fewer monolights.

Flashpoint

I am very aggravated! I received this flash as a present. No instruction in the box except a sale add! I have a D5000 Nikon camera and thought this flash would be easy to use and match up with my camera but instead I have a flash that does not work. After attaching it to the camera and turning the on button, the TTL appears and the zoom button lights up but then that's it! 6 button but nothing happens when you press them. A brand new flash without instructions!

Nice Product

Bought this a second flash and am very impressed with the performance. The only drawback is the time out function. Would like to be able to disable this as I have to keep checking to make sure the unit is active and ready.
