Questions & Answers

Shopper : has anyone compared this to the rogue grid?ROBERT M : Sorry, I have not made a comparison. This is a simple light modifier and does what it's suppose to.RAND R : yes.
Shopper : will these fit my SB-900s?.TRACEY B : I use a Canon 580EX II and it fits on that fine so I am sure it should fit on a SB-900. It is made a bit larger to accomodate various sizes of flashes, and the velcro straps secure it.RONALD S : I know for sure it fits cause I use it on the SB-900. I couldn't imagine it not fitting any rectangular hot-shoe flash. You have to buy the strap that goes around your flash. It's velcro so it adjusts to any size. The Speed Grid mounts onto the strap not the flash so the size of the flash doesn't really come into play. It works great and when you get yours you will see what I'm hopefully explaining well to you. : )KATHARINE L : Yes, it is attached with Velcro strips on the sides which then attach to the Honl SpeedStrap around the light itself (rather loosely) and will fit without problem but the SpeedStrap is necessary if you do not have one already.JOHN M : Yes, it'll fit any hotshoe flash. There is a small catch with that statement. You'll need to either put on some velcro on the flash or use the Honl Photo Speed Strap so it will stay attached and in position. I'm trying to remember if it came with some velcro paste on strips (I'm not sure). If you use any of the common flash modifiers you probably already have some velcro on your flashes anyway. Just making sure you understand how it attaches.CHRIS M : Oh yeah, no problem. They sit in front of the flash rather than sliding over the end.KEVIN M : Yes. I also use them with SB-900s.MICHAEL B : Yes, I use one regularly on an SB-900; they are plenty big with room to spare..

Very useful

I use multiple Nikon SB 800's and 900's in lieu of bigger monobloc lights when shooting portraits. Typical set up is one medium softbox, and one umbrella or two umbrellas as main and secondary lights. I use a Speedlight equipped with the Honl Grid on a boom set a few feet above and slightly behind the head of my subject. The grid permits me to carefully place a hair light to bring out highlights in my subject and add depth as well. My Speedlights allow great portability and, as importantly, quality. The Honl Grid is really useful for managing one of the important lights in my set up. Highly recommended.

"Strobists" this is what you want!

I use these on my SB-800's and I really like them. It is very sturdy and looks nice. Clients seem to have more confidence when you do not pull out a home-made honeycomb grid.

Great light control tool.

This grid spot is very well made, but it is a little on the expensive side. You can make your own with some black drink straws, but this is very nicely made. The only down side is that it is a bit of a challenge to attach to the strobe. I use Nikon SB-800s and it attaches with Velcro (hook and loop) and it works, but it seems like there could be a better mounting system. The Velcro that wraps around your speedlight is not included, so you'll need to order that separately.

Great way to control light spread

Used the grid to control light stand mounted SB-800, using strobist techniques. Produced some great controlled light placement.
