It is all metal and threads on and off my camera with ease. My variable neutral density filter screws on and off easily, too. However, my circular polarized filter screws on very easily but tends to lock on -- to get it off you must apply pressure and rotate the filter ring but not squeeze the step-up adaptor ring.
