Not what I hoped for

I bought this strobe in hopes that I could use it in conjunction with my Nikon Speed light but I had no luck in getting it to fire at the correct time using commander mode on my Nikon D90. Neither Nikon nor Adorama were any help so I returned it. Other than that in my short experience with it it seemed to be a very usable light.

Nice studio lights for beginners

These are great lights for beginners. I wish I would have went up to the 620's for more power. But they do have enough power for a small studio. The soft boxes are a little hard to figure out but if you youtube how to assemble you should have no problems.

These lights work great!

By

I have been using these lights for a year. Recently, I bought another 320m light for spotlighting certain areas on the model/background, and it works great. I have had no problem using these lights. They are reliable and sturdy.

This new model M has it all. I used White Lightenings for years but they broke a lot. Not this one. Runs cool also.

Flashpoint 320m Great Purchase

By

After shooting with nikon CLS on a once new d200 and 2 sb800 bouncing off umbrellas, I picked up 2 of these 320m and 2 glo medium soft boxes and I want to kick myself for not shooting with strobes from day 1. They are more responsive in getting those sharp popping images. I shoot a lot of glamour stuff and they are decent for the price. I picked up an impact powersync16 radio system, 1 trigger 2 receivers so I can trigger the sb-800 ' s and the 320m together and it works great. Also picked up a vello freewave wireless remote shutter release, so I don't have to hold the camera and take a selfie. Also picked up a 60 inch b&w umbella from adorama dirt cheap for 20 bucks, throws great light, but will need a 3rd light perhaps the 620m and some sort of portable power supply that can hold 3 strobes. Even tho I can mix the monolites with speedlite via radio triggers I want a little more power for a main light where I have the option to turn them down like I would most likely have to do with the 620m series, I feel. I will most likely still use the sb800 on outdoor shoots on the 60 inch umbrella just because it a lighter load carry.

Great and Can't Beat Price

By

I have three of these strobes now. I have never had any issues and they work great. After thousands of flashes I have never had a misfire. The stobe is light and has a quick recycle time. Add the battery pack and you get portable light that is cheaper than a speedlight. Even though this is only 150 watts it is enough power even for outdoor portraits. I have used this with a beauty dish, in full daylight, with the sun to the models back, and it was powerful enough to light the subject.

Good Light For The Money

By

The light itself is great, the recycle time is fairly quick, I using it at half power and takes a little less than a second to to recharge. That being said don't expect to do and Fashion Photography with it, There is more than enough power to do Studio work.

Great addition to my studiio lighting

By

Paired with a beauty dish this has become my go to monolight for portraits and headshots. I also attach it to an overhead boom and create unique toplit touches. Especially like the built in slave unit, when it becomes necessary in a three light situation. Light, portable, fast recycle. At this point I've not had any negative situations arise

Questions about this item:

CRYSTAL S  I lost the power cord for my strobe, but it's not listed in the 'accessories'. Does anyone know what type of cord I can use for a replacement? Thanks!
JAMES H  Any computer power cord will work they are just not as long
CRYSTAL S  Thanks James! I thought that's what it looked like..just didn't want to mess up the voltage or something.
Shopper  Do Bowens adapters work on these for attaching softboxes, etc?
Tim B  If you are talking about this item: Flashpoint Speed Ring for all Flashpoint Model Monolights SKU: FP2SR MFR: SBSR, yes, by using the inner ring from this speedring, I have able to use it to adapt every softbox I have tried so far. (Paul Buff, Generic from Ebay, etc) to the Flashpoint units.
CRYSTAL S  wow...thanks for this. I've never tried mounting it to my Buff softbox, I just assumed it didn't work.
beth t  Will this sync cord hook up to my Canon 7D? If not, what is my other option (besides using the slave sensor)?
THOMAS M  Hi Beth - just curious if you have any aversion to using the slave sensor? I've been impressed at how well it works, even without line-of-sight. The 7D has a good pop-up flash, and it's free!
beth t  Hi Thomas, How do you control the harshness of the pop-up flash? Thanks, Beth
