Questions & Answers

FRYE, M : Where can I find replacement modeling light bulbs?DANIEL M : If you search on this site, both the modeling light the and the strobe element are for sale ... see below.WILLIAM K : http://www.adorama.com/FPMLM320.html
Ramona E : I am using this monolight to photograph hummingbirds, so I take numerous shots in quick succession. At times the light will stop working and the red light will flash off and on. Does this mean it is overheating or is the bulb about to go out?JOHN W : You probably are exceeding the capacity of the flash to recharge. You may need to reduce the output by changing the power levels, like going to 1/2 power. 1/4 power ,etc. The red light means it is recharging. You can also reboot the unit by turning the power off and then back on. Hope this works for you.RONALD S : its overheated. not designed for this kind of shooting.WILLIAM K : No, it's just recharging up to the power you have it set to.FARLEY C : The lightbulb is ok..is the unit overheating, since this model don't have an internal fan....just let it cool after a rapid shooting for about a minute...or less...it will work fineGINO M : The light is over heating..give it few minutes to cool down...a speed light with fresh batteries may work better for fast shooting. Also try rear curtin sync for different results
TERRY R : how do I connect 2 lights up to flash at the same time not using a wireless trigger?CHRISTINE M : I connect my Canon 7D with the extra long sync cable (included with the 320m's) to one of the flash units and put the other strobes in slave setting (button on strobes) and the others go off automatically. I know you can use your Canon camera's onboard flash to trigger Canon speedlights (without a sync cable) based on your camera's flash settings so I would think you could technically have the camera flash trigger the 320m's depending on your camera settings. I keep it simple by connecting the sync cable connected to one of the 320m's and with the other 320m's set as slave they all go off together. I did not purchase an expensive wiresless trigger for the 320m's but have a cheap canon remote that I sometimes use to take the shot to avoid any camera shake. I also use the camera's built in timer to take the shot in 2 or 10 seconds and the 320m's go off automatically when my camera is connected to 1 of the 320m's with the sync cable so in my setting, I don't need a wireless trigger. When I purchased the 320m's I did test out using my Canon 7d's onboard flash as a trigger without the sync cable and I believe it worked but went back to the simple method of just using the sync cable connected to 1 320m as the master strobe and it works perfectly. I love the 320m's and they work beautifully for portraits and my product photography. I purchased the set and a week later I puchased one more 320m to use as a backlight. With my product photography I used the 3rd strobe on a higher output setting focused on my backdrop and it makes post production editing so fast. I use to spend hours in photoshop extracting the product and pasting item to a pure white background, with the 3rd 320m, it takes minutes. Any more questions feel free to ask.JOHN W : Terry, your monolight should have a small glass "bump" on the top. This is the light sensor. On the control panel there is a switch marked "Sensor". This is item number 10 on the illustration of this panel. Turn this switch on ( push the button to "I" and the built in flash sensor will work. Just fire the main flash unit.MERRITT M : The flashes come with a sync cord as well as the ability to trigger off of another flash. If you want to not have a wireless unit mounted on your camera you can use the on-body flash as a trigger, you can also cable into your key light and have your fills set to trigger off of that flash A third option: you can get a splitter and have all of them triggered off of the sync wire.EDWARD S : These lights have a 'slave eye' which triggers the flash when it sees the other light flash. So you only need to trigger one of them and the other will flash automatically. This is how most studio flash systems work.CHAD C : If I recall this monolight comes with a cord which you plug into your camera. This will trigger the first light. On your second monolight you turn the sensor on (slave mode) which will trigger and fire when it detects the flash from your first light. Or, you can turn the sensor on both monolights and you can use your camera's built in flash to trigger them both. The monolights will detect your cameras flash and fire at same time. Me personally, I use one radio trigger and one receiver and all my other lights will fire once they detect my one monolight firing. I don't like the cord in the way.CHRIS D : The 320m (like all Flashpoint monolights, I think) has a sensor on the top of the unit that is triggered by another flash. It can be triggered by an on-camera flashFRANCISCO T : With the sync cable connect to your camera and one 320m set the second as a slave. With the optical slave.VENKATA SIVA AN M : You can have the sensor switch turned ON for both the lights. These sensors trigger when they see the flash from the camera firing.

Good Monolight for the small studio,

Good light for a small studio. Operates very well. I checked the illumination with a light meter and it performed as described. Be careful with the distance from the subject, it is only 150 watts. The softbox is a great diffuser for portraits or for a softer light. Be sure to check illumination with a light meter when using the diffuser. Good value for those on a budget.

Great light for the beginner or hobbyist

I have been doing photography as a hobby for some time now. Wanted to get into doing more portraiture especially since we just had a little boy. This is a great light at a great price to start learning on. Don't regret my purchase at all.

Excellent background addition to 620 kit

I bought this light to go with my FP620MPWK Flashpoint II-620 main lights. It makes a great light for background fill, color, etc. when combined with the FPBDK barndoor and filter kit. You have to be a bit careful with placement since it's a bit wide, but it'll still hide safely behind even a fairly small child if you pay attention. I did find that the modeling light was of limited help in aiming a color background fill...the actual strobe illuminated a different radius and space than the modeling light suggested. But beyond this minor frustration it worked flawlessly.

good backlight

Have been pleased with this so far, after 6months use I can't complain. I use it as my backlight and it is consistent. A huge improvement and worth the money over the flashpoint budget models.

Best entry level monolight value.. EVER!

I ordered 2 of these kits to replace my speedlights and have been playing with them for a few hours, and so far I am nothing but impressed with them. Everything is well made and took less than 10 minutes to set up 2 lights. The softboxes did not come with instructions, so the first time I put them together it took a little longer to figure them out. The modeling light has a proportional output setting to it makes it easier to setup some complex portraits and even at 150 w/s has enough power for headshots all small groups without going to full power. The only downside is the reflector rattles a little, but it doesn't bother me at all.
