Best entry level monolight value.. EVER!

I ordered 2 of these kits to replace my speedlights and have been playing with them for a few hours, and so far I am nothing but impressed with them. Everything is well made and took less than 10 minutes to set up 2 lights. The softboxes did not come with instructions, so the first time I put them together it took a little longer to figure them out. The softboxes did not come with instructions, so the first time I put them together it took a little longer to figure them out. The modeling light has a proportional output setting to it makes it easier to setup some complex portraits and even at 150 w/s has enough power for headshots all small groups without going to full power. The only downside is the reflector rattles a little, but it doesn't bother me at all.

These lights work great!

By

I have been using these lights for a year. Recently, I bought another 320m light for spotlighting certain areas on the model/background, and it works great. I have had no problem using these lights. They are reliable and sturdy.

My 3rd one!

This new model M has it all. I used White Lightenings for years but they broke a lot. Not this one. Runs cool also.

Flashpoint 320m Great Purchase

By

After shooting with nikon CLS on a once new d200 and 2 sb800 bouncing off umbrellas, I picked up 2 of these 320m and 2 glo medium soft boxes and I want to kick myself for not shooting with strobes from day 1. They are more responsive in getting those sharp popping images. I shoot a lot of glamour stuff and they are decent for the price. I picked up an impact powersync16 radio system, 1 trigger 2 receivers so I can trigger the sb-800 ' s and the 320m together and it works great. Also picked up a vello freewave wireless remote shutter release, so I don't have to hold the camera and take a selfie. Also picked up a 60 inch b&w umbella from adorama dirt cheap for 20 bucks, throws great light, but will need a 3rd light perhaps the 620m and some sort of portable power supply that can hold 3 strobes. Even tho I can mix the monolites with speedlite via radio triggers I want a little more power for a main light where I have the option to turn them down like I would most likely have to do with the 620m series, I feel. I will most likely still use the sb800 on outdoor shoots on the 60 inch umbrella just because it a lighter load carry.

Great and Can't Beat Price

By

I have three of these strobes now. I have never had any issues and they work great. After thousands of flashes I have never had a misfire. The stobe is light and has a quick recycle time. Add the battery pack and you get portable light that is cheaper than a speedlight. Even though this is only 150 watts it is enough power even for outdoor portraits. I have used this with a beauty dish, in full daylight, with the sun to the models back, and it was powerful enough to light the subject.

Good Light For The Money

By

The light itself is great, the recycle time is fairly quick, I using it at half power and takes a little less than a second to to recharge. That being said don't expect to do and Fashion Photography with it, There is more than enough power to do Studio work.

Great addition to my studiio lighting

By

Paired with a beauty dish this has become my go to monolight for portraits and headshots. I also attach it to an overhead boom and create unique toplit touches. Especially like the built in slave unit, when it becomes necessary in a three light situation. Light, portable, fast recycle. At this point I've not had any negative situations arise

Great light source in the studio and out

By

I use it for portrait, fashion, and product photography. In the studio it takes all flashpoint (Glo) light modifiers which makes it very flexible. On location it runs on the optional battery pack and is rugged enough to bounced around on a rolling light stand over grass, rocks, sand etc. This is my 4th Flashpoint. My first 320 became unreliable, so I returned it and the replacement was an M model, which work very well form over a couple of years, and convinced me to buy a second one. My other monos are the FP 620 and 1220, both of which are fan cooled. I would like to have the 320 fan cooled, but it is not. I suspect that heat may have been the problem with my first light so I've been holdings my breath with this one, but it has worked flawlessly ..... Still ....

Very impressed with this monolight

By

For the price point this monolight delivers. I was looking for a decent light from the Flashpoint II series to go with my Flashpoint 21" beauty dish and this fits the bill as the beauty dish fits right on without any additional adapters.

Questions about this item:

Jeff B  What triggers the monolight to fire when you take the picture? Do you need a sync cord? Does the camera flash trigger it etc?
DANIEL W  I use a sync cord. The back side also has a light sensor to be flash activated, but I found my Canon G11 was not strong enough to activate it, it is on the back side after all. My usual configuration is to use light sensor on one flash unit, sync cord on the other. The sync corded one fires the the uncorded one and it works fine at 1/250 sec exposure. I usually never use more than 1/4 power in most situations.
Jeff B  Thanks for the help!
Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
Ronald H  Initially for the value. I needed a medium sized strobe on slight budget. The reviews were good so I tried it. After I received it and used it, it was very good. Great color match, 5500 kel, easy use, nice modeling lamp. This is a nice strobe for small and medium sized studios. Soft box produces very nice soft lighting.
Adam J  I am from Australia, I require a 240v version of this kit, what are the possibilities? Can I just use a simple travel adapter?
CHRISTINE M  I would ask sales about this, the battery and recharger are separate purchases but I love that the lights have this capability in the future. Love the lights and their ease of use and amazing results. I use them with the Canon 7d. Christine
