Best entry level monolight value.. EVER!

from New York  -  Photo Enthusiast

I ordered 2 of these kits to replace my speedlights and have been playing with them for a few hours, and so far I am nothing but impressed with them. Everything is well made and took less than 10 minutes to set up 2 lights. The softboxes did not come with instructions, so the first time I put them together it took a little longer to figure them out. The modeling light has a proportional output setting to it makes it easier to setup some complex portraits and even at 150 w/s has enough power for headshots all small groups without going to full power. The only downside is the reflector rattles a little, but it doesn't bother me at all.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
Ronald H  Initially for the value. I needed a medium sized strobe on slight budget. The reviews were good so I tried it. After I received it and used it, it was very good. Great color match, 5500 kel, easy use, nice modeling lamp. This is a nice strobe for small and medium sized studios. Soft box produces very nice soft lighting.
John C  Will this light run off of a Quantum Turbo?
RENATA C  I do not know what a quantam turbo is, so I can't help you. My lights are plugged into A/C, in-studio or on location, & triggered by a wireless trigger. Sorry!
Lauren B  I am new to studio lighting. I have done natural light photography, however, for about 6 months now...got into it by chance. Anyway, I want to get a small setup for newborn photography. Adorama was recommended to me, so I did a search for newborn studio Adorama, and this came up. Is this all I need to purchase? I DO NOT plan on buying this and jumping into studio photography, so please don't pester me to get educated first...because that's what I'm buying the lighting for. I'm a hands-on learner. I could read books on lighting all day, but it's not going to help without the actual lighting to practice with. So...I have a Canon Rebel EOS XS, but I do not have any flash other than the pop-up flash. So...is this kit EVERYTHING I need? Or do I need another flash to go with this?? As said, I really know 0 about studio light and am quite confused. I need a one-stop shop kit...is this it?
Lauren B  Thank you all so much for the answers! I didn't realize I had any responses...wasn't notified. I still haven't bought the kit, but I have now decided to purchase it. Thank you! Andrew P...what was it you bought at Home Depot...? Does anyone have any pix that I can see so I know what to expect with one or 2 of these? I know results will vary greatly, but just wondering...
