Best entry level monolight value.. EVER!

from New York  -  Photo Enthusiast

I ordered 2 of these kits to replace my speedlights and have been playing with them for a few hours, and so far I am nothing but impressed with them. Everything is well made and took less than 10 minutes to set up 2 lights. The softboxes did not come with instructions, so the first time I put them together it took a little longer to figure them out. The modeling light has a proportional output setting to it makes it easier to setup some complex portraits and even at 150 w/s has enough power for headshots all small groups without going to full power. The only downside is the reflector rattles a little, but it doesn't bother me at all.

Questions about this item:

Jeff B  What triggers the monolight to fire when you take the picture? Do you need a sync cord? Does the camera flash trigger it etc?
DANIEL W  I use a sync cord. The back side also has a light sensor to be flash activated, but I found my Canon G11 was not strong enough to activate it, it is on the back side after all. My usual configuration is to use light sensor on one flash unit, sync cord on the other. The sync corded one fires the the uncorded one and it works fine at 1/250 sec exposure. I usually never use more than 1/4 power in most situations.
Jeff B  Thanks for the help!
Adam J  I am from Australia, I require a 240v version of this kit, what are the possibilities? Can I just use a simple travel adapter?
CHRISTINE M  I would ask sales about this, the battery and recharger are separate purchases but I love that the lights have this capability in the future. Love the lights and their ease of use and amazing results. I use them with the Canon 7d. Christine
Lauren B  I am new to studio lighting. I have done natural light photography, however, for about 6 months now...got into it by chance. Anyway, I want to get a small setup for newborn photography. Adorama was recommended to me, so I did a search for newborn studio Adorama, and this came up. Is this all I need to purchase? I DO NOT plan on buying this and jumping into studio photography, so please don't pester me to get educated first...because that's what I'm buying the lighting for. I'm a hands-on learner. I could read books on lighting all day, but it's not going to help without the actual lighting to practice with. So...I have a Canon Rebel EOS XS, but I do not have any flash other than the pop-up flash. So...is this kit EVERYTHING I need? Or do I need another flash to go with this?? As said, I really know 0 about studio light and am quite confused. I need a one-stop shop kit...is this it?
MICHAEL B  For the most part ...yes. You can either shoot "hard wired" or tethered using the cables that come with the kit; or use your "pop up" flash to trigger the 320 wirelessly. Otherwise you will need to get a wireless trigger (which is what I suggest).
