I've recently made the switch to ball heads and like them so much better. I also really like the plate style on this--much more useable than the old manfrotto/bogen plates. So far this has met all my expectations. I've used it on the 100-400 lens and find it up to the task.

I use a Canon 5d on an old studio camera stand. The stand lets me adjust height and positioning instantly, unlike a tripod. The 3Pod H2 makes composing the shot smooth, quick, and easy...unlike any head I've ever used. And I use the dual controls, one for the ball itself and one for panning, far more than I thought I would. I use an older camera for composing on a large video screen. The 5d shuts off automatically when I take too long. The quick release plate lets me mount an older camera that stays on forever...and then just instantly switch in the 5d when I'm ready to make the shot.

A very smooth ball head with a very nice and secure quick release. It will work great on my monpod or tripod. With no handles to contend with it will make it much easier to use with my spotting scope or camera. A quality product.
