Thus far good...

I've been using the 320M's and 320A's for years now and found myself in dire need of more powerful moonlights for my small studio shooting clothing for my online business 3x a week. I was in conflict about buying these moonlights or the older 620M's. I was curious about the LED modeling lights and the smaller plastic casing compared to the 620M's so I decided to try something new and ordered the DG600's… IMO the DG600 does have a better overall external construction compared to the 620M's....

I've been using the 320M's and 320A's for years now and found myself in dire need of more powerful moonlights for my small studio shooting clothing for my online business 3x a week. I was in conflict about buying these moonlights or the older 620M's. I was curious about the LED modeling lights and the smaller plastic casing compared to the 620M's so I decided to try something new and ordered the DG600's… IMO the DG600 does have a better overall external construction compared to the 620M's. It's a bit lighter in weight than the 620M's but the the plastic casing does feel pretty darn rugged. Granted this light has been in a stationary position in my small studio ever since I got it (my 320's have taken pretty serious beatings throughout the years and held up very well aside from replacing modeling lights and one fuse). I have a Flashpoint Battery Power Pack so once the weather gets nicer I will be hitting the streets with this light. I'm used to the dial knob of the 320M's so it will take time for me to get used to the digital dial on the back of this moonlight. No complaints though - it's just "different" than what I am used to. So far the only thing that bothers me about this light is the LED modeling aspect - it just doesn't crank out enough power for me to see what I am doing without an overhead light on (the 320M's modeling light is still brighter than the LED of this moonlight). Regardless of the LED modeling light being dim the DG600 is still quite a bang for your buck. I will forever be a Flashpoint monolight loyalist and strongly recommend this lighting system for anyone needing quality lighting at a low price.

Stopped Working after First Use

The unit itself appears to be fairly well-built, although in the middle of using it for the first time in the studio, it suddenly stopped firing. I'm trying to return it for warranty service - we'll see how reliable it is after I get a new unit.

At this price you can't ask for more!!

By

from Lonodn, ON

They are what they are - cheap $200 monos. That said, I love them and they're more than enough for my needs at moment... Also, the Flashpoint and Glow modifiers are surprisingly great! At this price, you really can't go wrong and I recommend them 100%!

Fantastic

Used as a backlight for headshots with the Glow octabox. These lights just rock. Easy to use and set up. Reliable and the build quality seems solid. I highly recommend them. I really can't think of any cons at this time. I bought two!

Best product for the value.

By

Great light, very reliable, I have three of them. The only aggravating part of flashpoint is some modifiers are always on back order. But the speed rings are always spot on. Buy it, you'll be happy.

Love it!

By

Fast recycle time, beautiful white ligh & simple to use. The battery withstands a whole shooting session outdoors. It's a workhorse. If you are not shure of what kind of portable monolight to buy, look no more. Now stop reading this, and just buy it! You won't regret it. It's better than the specs tell ya'.

Bought this and the 400 also. Great value. Lightweight, but durable. Led modeling light a plus!

This fits my needs at the moment!!!!

By

from Houston  -  Photo Enthusiast

This fits my needs at the moment. It will not overpower the sun if that is what you are looking for. I love how there is no lamp protruding. LED is bright enough for studio work. Outside, in the bright sun however, its not so great when mixed with modifiers. The LED CAN BE dialed INDEPENDENTLY from the flash power. Push the knob for 2 or 3 seconds, the led lamp icon on the back will turn red. Now you can turn the knob and set your desired LED brightness. Push it again and it will bring you to adjust the Flash power. It does not come with a manual. I suggest to purchase this with the Adorama VIP, gives you one full year warranty for cheap. The reason why I chose this over the other monolights was for the inexpensive battery you can connect it to. Overall I am happy with it. It fits my bill and lighting experiments.

I would buy another one

It's a pretty legit strobe. Very affordable and gets the job done. I use it in open fields and brings out the subject.

Not the light for me

By

from Rhode Island, USA  -  Pro Photographer

When I purchased the unit I was told and sold an adapter ring for a Paul Buff Octagon Softbox, that ring did not fit or work on the light. I sent the ring back and got a "specialist" on the phone who said he had the right ring and would send it out. Well that ring did not work either and I was told by another "specialist" that you can't put a softbox on this light, what's up with that. I returned the whole order. This may be a good unit but who is going to use it as is with no diffusion.

Great Affordable Flash

By

from NC  -  Semi-pro Photographer

Excellent little flash for the money. The only complaint is that I wish you had more control over the modeling light using the battery pack. You can turn it on but it only stays on about 20 seconds and goes off. Also The battery pack from the earlier flashpoint lights are different. 5 wire vs 4 wire guess thats for the modeling light. The batteries are the same but the pack is different.

Questions about this item:

Michael G  Can you put an umbrella through this DG600 head?....I do not see the hole in the reflector or the neck to hold it. Please advise.
Michael G  Great...thanks! Retz...what f-stop are you getting and at what ISO with a white umbrella? or what ever you are using? Also...have you tried it with the battery pack?
Lou S  Can someone point me to what speedring I should buy for this? Thanks!
CHARLES F  I may be wrong; but, it seems to me the ring would be necessary depending on the particular part you want to attach. The standard reflector that come with the DG600 has the ring built in. If you want to put a soft box on you will have to get the ring for that box to the DG600. If you can’t find the ring from the soft box manufacturer look for it in the accessories section of the DG600. Hope you find what you need. I really like this unit, and just ordered one more 600. Peace
RUSSELL G  Remote sensor cell button? I purchased 4 of these and like them a lot, but I have a question on the optical sensor switch; There is a button on the back, to enable the optical sensor; but instead of being on-off, the LED near the button shows off/green/orange. What does the 3rd selection do? I didn't see anything on this in the manual. Russ
WILLIAM P  Excellent question, Russell, as the manual says nothing about the three modes. The orange light doesn't do anything different than the red or green? Call someone at Adorama for help. If you find out, let us know!

Portraits Without a Studio

Much of my portrait and fashion photography is done on location, but living in Colorado sometimes the models (and the photographer too) just aren’t in the mood for cold weather and snow. That’s when a studio comes in handy.
