Review Summary

An inexpensive relatively compact and lightweight AC or DC flash unit, the only weaknesses are the relatively wimpy modeling lamp and the plugs and sockets for the DC battery cable. Otherwise the basic controls and features do everything one would expect in a unit like this and while the construction is not real robust, the price is very affordable. A good choice for that basic portrait light.

Bought 2 pairs of these for Studio / On-Site shooting. They were a good deal for the price when they worked. The LED modeling lights are cool to touch. Strobe power is barely adequate for single or couples portraits at ISO 100. However, after a little over a year 1 out of 4 lights stopped working. The fuse was blown, any newly replaced fuse would blow right away on power-on. A few months after the first, my second light stopped working. It does turn on but displays an E1 error with beeping sound. So, to summarize, in 1.5 years of light use, 2 out 4 lights are non-functional. While attractively priced, NOT durable and NOT recommended. I guess, you get what you pay for - disposable 1 year use lights. Meanwhile my old Novatrons and Photogenics are still kicking after 10+ years.

Personally I really like this strobe, it's really powerful for the type of work I do and the controls are easy to understand. So far I have no complains and I would recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a strobe.

Overall 4.5. Adorama needs to give us 1/2 points. DG 600. Pretty good value and quality for under $. There's some Quirks which I'll cover later. Fairly good strobe, LED modeling light is Cooler for heat, but Weak by itself. (LED modeling light helps keep room cooler.) You may need to turn-on some room lights or have 2 or more Monolights. Between the older Flashpoint II's (FP II) and the DG's, I feel the DG strobe is a tad cooler for color. Advantages of the DG's are smaller and lighter, with a fairly good plastic housing. Digital readouts and mini plug for sync. FP II was monoplug, which I prefer. Recycles fairly quickly. If you were to buy only 1 DG 600 or 400, I would go w/ the 600 per more watts. Some Quirks, sometimes the DG strobe will not fire with slave or sensor. like it's taking a rest. Then works again. Sensor button only works w/ 1-push. Other pushes are blanks, so you need to go thru the cycle. Minimal Instructions. The reflector is the same size as for FP II, but are Not interchangeable if you use umbrellas. Per umbrella hole is in a different spot.. If buying replacement reflectors, note this

I have purchased 2 of these strobes and on one o fathom the flash sync cable plug is not responding when the cable is plugged into it. Essentially it has no defaulted to a SLAVE strobe only.

It does what it needs to do! I place one of these behind my subjects to light a seamless white background. The fan sometimes can be quite loud for such a small unit. Overall, the DG600 is a reliable and budget friendly moonlight.

The strobe and softbox were satisfactory. But the light stand would not tighten down. Once in place, the softbox would creep down and turn away from the subject.

Bought this combo kit on a whim and I can't figure out why I didn't buy one sooner! Excellent quality and has been working flawlessly for me since I've gotten it. I'm using mine with a Yongnuo flash trigger and it fires every time. I wouldn't have thought you could get a light of this quality for so little money.

The quality of how the light is made is as impressive as the low cost. It has been working flawlessly since I took it out of the box.

Upon initial attempt to charge, charge indicator doesn't illuminate. Can't tell if it's charging or not. Since unit is shipped with some charge you'd imagine someone in China would notice (and care). Otherwise, seems like a nicely made unit. Wrote Adorama, and await a reply ... Apparently, they have a department for handling warrantee issues on Flashpoint products. This is my 3rd FP product with a problem, which is a shame given the otherwise apparently good design.

Upon first test to trigger unit optically, it won't fire. Even with triggering speedlight at point-blank range, it won't work. Instructions are scant, but seem adequate. Can't imagine what I could be doing wrong. Really wanted to like this unit, and it does not seem cheaply made. I may try a replacement unit, but naturally concerned about reliability when a new unit seems faulty.

I was frustrated with the cycle time on the Flashpoint 320M. It could sustain 1 FPS only below 1/2 power. Dropping to 1/4 power, it could sustain 2 FPS, but further power reduction did not further improve recycle speed, and sometimes I'd miss shots. I received the DG 600 and was impressed that with double the power of the 320M, the DG600 could sustain 2 FPS at full "6.0" power. Even more impressive, reducing to 1/4 "4.0" power, the DG600 could sustain 9 FPS -- wow! (Of course this may vary with temperature, and I ran that test at a low temperature -- 58F) Speaking of temperature, there is an audible fan on the DG600. I agree with other reviewers that it is not generally troublesome -- except... I use a metal Flashpoint beauty dish and that seems to magnify the fan noise until it is quite annoying. No usable. The DG600 modeling light was also disappointing. They are somewhat harsh blue. The tungsten light on the 320M is much more pleasing. Finally, using full power on the DG600, I checked to see if the flash duration was long enough to cover high speed shutter -- such as 1/500 and 1/1000 sec. The answer was no. With impressive recycle time, small size and low price, this flash is clearly an excellent value for many customers. It just doesn't work out for my uses, it seems I'll be paying more...

I love the flashpoint line - it's a great light the has enough power to fight the sun when I need it to outside or light a school gym and for the price it's a no brainer!

Bought this to try out at a budgeted portrait and sport photography as well as normal lighting on a object. Added this along with the glow softbox that made the lighting more versatile

Long time hobbyist photographer, just started dabbling in flash. I did a lot of research before deciding on these and I feel great with my decision. Adorama was eager to work with me when I contacted them as well. Over the past few weeks I've been experimenting with this kit (with stand, SB, and speed ring) and I am amazed at how easy it is to work with these. In my home studio I set my camera to kill ambient light, which means a shutter speed of 1/160 and an fstop of 8 or 11. The digital control on these lights is amazing. After I meter the light, I simply dial the light in to my exact stop. I've seen some people express some concern over being able to use these lights with other manufacturer's modifiers. The kit comes with the Glow speed ring which will work with most modifiers from most manufacturers, so don't worry about that. I plan to purchase another one of these along with a grid set and use the whole thing on some location shoots. Again, for starter mono lights that you can grow with, I don't think you can go wrong with these.

Once you figure out how it goes together, the softbox works well and is very light.

This setup works wonderfully. No it's not the best... but for the price I can buy 6 of them... They work great!!! Love the LED too.

I did a lot of research before purchasing these lights and will use these to replace some "hot lights" I was using for taking product pictures. These lights are build very nicely, perform as expect and give me a very nice white background, without yellow or blue casting. I only purchased one but will purchase a second as needed.

Well my mentor always told me buy the right stuff the first time and you will never have to buy it again. I believe I have done this with this light. I have over 1000 shots recycle time at full power is almost immediate. The digital display makes adjustments easy. It has been a life saver as I get into studio photography. I have not used it with a battery yet but I am certain it will work as advertised. Great starter to mid range light I am adding a second and removing my speedlights as off camera lighting.

I have 2 and they have worked flawlessly. Everything including the battery pack works as expected. I ran over 100 full power flashes and the battery held up without a mm issue. Only thing is price just jumped ($)!! I was ready to order another, but will have to wait now.

I'm planning to purchase two more soon, for me I see no reason to spend more for the way I use it. I highly recommend this light.

Just recieved one of these lights phurchased to work with my FLASHPOINT 320 M's first impression is that it is lighter and better ballanced than the 320's. I like the rotary power setting with digitial readout. tested in my small basement stuido also all the other Flashpoint accessorys fit.Value for $ is great.
