Monolight worked fine but battery pack would not power light. Battery charged but would not fire light, returned battery pack, hoping for one that works

I love the strobe overall, but it has two key faults. Pros: 1. Affordable 2. Easy to use 3. Good quality 4. Good control layout 5. Strong battery (so far.) 6. Portability 7. Ability to deactivate the beep after recycle. Cons: 1. Non-standard speedring. I Would have preferred to use some of the many speed rings I already own rather than buying new ones that are only available from Adorama. The speed ring works fine, it's just an added cost that I didn't factor in as I assumed it would have a Bowens style mount like most other off-brand strobes. 2. Modeling lamp does not work off the battery. It has to be plugged in for the modeling lamp to be used. This is extremely inconvenient when shooting outdoors in low light. So unless you have a source to plug into wherever this strobe is going to be used, I would not recommend it for event photography, such as evening weddings.

I'm writing this review after 4 years of using the strobes. I use 1-1220 and 2 620's. I love everything about them except the weight and size. Yesterday I was setting up for a studio session. I plugged in a 620 head and accidentally touched the metal reflector to the inside metal on the front of the strobe. I heard a sizzle and smelled burning electric. Head, dead. I pulled the tab over the plug out, the fuse was burnt. I found, tucked in a compartment above the fuse, a fresh spare fuse. Yay!

This is my first take along strobe and could not be any happier. I will be buying another two over the next two months. I was excited to try it with my Pocket Wizard TT1 and TT5. I'd heard a lot about Hyper Sync and wanted to see if it would work with this unit and to my surprize it work flawlessly up to 1/8000 in full sun for some amazing results.

The Flashpoint products perform fine, if you can get your hands on them. I have a 620m with the DC battery that works great for weddings/location shoots, but I waited several months for the battery and now the flash tube is out of stock. As a professional, I need to be able to count on my equipment. Not having replacement flash tubes available makes these products non-viable for a professional. Endlessly frustrating.

Consider the money well spent for this monolight. You get just right power for a standard portrait setting. Used with the 27" beauty dish this is a superb addition to any setup. I will eventually mount this on a C stand, but with the addition of few weights this does the job well. By the way. The build quality is superb.

This thing is awesome. I needed a monolight for simple shoots. I wanted to able to "over power" the sun. Though i have never used it for that, i know it can because it is quite powerful, for my needs anyway. whenever I shoot indoors, I keep it on its lowest setting, and it works perfectly there. I shoot mostly portraits, so "overpowering" the sun would be easy in that situation anyway. so, its just pretty awesome. great for indoors, can work for doors i think as well as any other monolight, as long as your needs are not exceeding its capabilities; ex, outdoor modeling, outdoor portraits, night shoots...just anything that you wont be super far from your subject.

This system is fantastic. I would suggest it for those on a budget. It really impressed me with the output and the ease of set up and use. Flashpoint gained a customer in me. The case for the battery pack is real nice and hold a charge for a long photoshoot. I even used the battery on my lightstand to weight it down so i do not need to take my sandbag again.

Impressed. I revieved five box's via UPS. All of these box's had big damage, holes, beat up edges, and one which a Bear must have hugged it. I was like really. Everything works great with no sign of any damage, couldnt believe it. Good case, good stands, and good lights. Havent used the umbrellas but the white shoot threw part looks a bit thin and probably would cause uneven lighting. Just bought wireless triggers based on Julio's recomendation, hopeing they work along side with my canon speedlights....sku:FPRRS16, FPRS16R, FPRRS8R.

Don't let the affordable price of these units confuse you...These are solid lights with consistent performance and excellent lighting characteristics. I just did my first portrait sitting with my new kit and am extremely pleased with the results. My complete lighting kit includes this set, plus FP320MBS Flashpoint II-320 for backlighting, FPBDK barndoor & gels, and two SB3248E 32 x 48" softboxes. This combination gives me all the power I could possibly want for individual and small group portraits; in fact in the sitting I just shot I found myself using 1/4 to 1/2 power at the max for most shots. Excellent color, very subtle adjustments are available on each light, and the slave syncing of the three strobes performed flawlessly. At these power settings, I found cycle times to be anywhere from a half-second to two seconds max. The modeling lights do a decent job of showing similar proportionality to the strobe shot...not perfect, you still need to do some test shots, but enough to get in the ballpark. I can't speak to durability yet as I only just got them, but I would definitely recommend this set to anyone who doesn't feel the need to spend thousands to believe that they have quality!

Have a D90 and lights work great! Easy to use also. Had to order PC sync adapter for my flash shoe. Ordered Flashpoint trigger and it works great too (wireless- no sync cords). Just beginning studio set-up.

Overall not a bad kit for the money. The lights are pretty long but well made. The flashes are powerful but I find the modeling light lacking. Too yellow of tones. I wll perhaps try flourescent bulbs. The only bad part of this kit are the included umbrellas. They are paper thin and even with the flash turned all the way down you get weird artifacts when shooting through them. Also, they are NOT backed with a removable black cover as you would think from seeing the pictures of the product online. The stands seem sturdy enough and the included case is not bad. Wish is came with speed rings for this price.

I mainly use this light for location work, and I have been happy with it. I've taken about 250 images on a single charge, and it still had juice for more. The color is consistent too.

This is a good product for the money. Used it for an outdoor scene, it worked great. It lighted up my subject as well as the background just perfect. Saving up for another one.

Solidly built, powerful lights. Looked at other sets but these seemed to be the best value at this price point. Using for large group shots indoors, very pleased with the amount of light these produce. Very nice set, would recommend.

I love this kit! Nice light, recharges fast enough. Very versatile. Stands are very good and sturdy. For what you pay, you get a wonderful starter kit that you can build on for years to come. It will change the way you shoot, for the better!

I used this with a Canon EOS 50D. Very compatible and easy to use. I hardly read instructions anyways. The lights are easy to move around but can give off some heat even with the cooling fan. Easy set up.

I love the way the lights are adjustable and sturdy. The stands are strong and the case sturdy and padded. It takes wonderful pictures! I would and will buy again! I've had this set for a couple monthes now and it has worked wonderful in my studio. It's much nicer and more professional looking than my last set.

This is my 1st set of studio flashes and came highly recommended by Mark Wallace from Adorama TV for my budget. My requirements were something good for all around BUT able to grow with. These certainly fit the bill. Metal housing and lots of accessories available. Not overly fast to recharge but more than quick enough for portrait work. Be careful of the honey comb on the snoot, VERY FRAGILE. So far works like a dream next purchase will be the battery packs for them.

I procured this kit with a couple of 30x60 softboxes for medium sized product photography. Very nice consistent color value thru the range. I find the heads to be well made with useful functional features that work perfectly. Even the stands are pretty darn solid. You can feel confident that this product will perform as described but it also inspires confidence in clients with it's professional appearance. This kit would bang out a wedding in all but the largest spaces. Very high output when needed. Recycle time is quicker than I expected. Supremely pleased...

I use these lights for lighting my white seamless paper with bouncing the lights. Lights the background pretty well when set in the right place. Lights sometimes misfires if you dont have them in the right spot. Overall good little kit.

The lights themselves are a fantastic value, and comparable to the ProFoto and Speedotron equipment I use in the studio but in a monolight product. Unfortunately for me, one of the main reasons I purchased this kit was because it came with battery packs, making this a (supposedly) mobile kit for remote shoots at a great price. When the kit arrived, I followed the instructions for charging the packs, did some test shots, and packed up for my first remote shoot with them the following morning. The packs were DOA, and had not held a charge overnight. I was able to work out some power for my shoot using extension cords and some stolen juice (less than desirable, I assure you). I forgot about the pack problem until my next outdoor shoot the following week. Same scenario, same outcome. I've attempted to test these to verify where the problem lies (EX: if they discharge within an hour, three, six hours - etc.), but the packs won't charge, hold a charge, or even function. I cannot tell you what a disappointment this was. [...]I've indicated that I would recommend this to a friend, but only with the caveat that they fully test the battery packs immediately, checking that they not only charge, but hold a charge longer than a couple of hours, and are reliable over several shoots before even considering them to be a working piece of equipment.

Best kit on the market for the price
By Jeffrey P.
Consistent light output. Even @ 1/32 light has good color value. I did a phootshoot for a dance studio. The pictures were very consisent. I researched online and nothing comes close to the value of this kit. Well built monolights. Stands are acceptable,Case fits everything plus more. I also purchased the Flashpoint 32x48 softbox and battery power pack. The AC/DC is a huge advantage for outdoor shoots. The 620M comes with the DC cord so you can run both lights on the single power pack. Overal...

Better than expected
By RANJIT L.
Before buying this monolight, I already had two budget monolights, but needed one that operates with a DC pack. So I bought a 320M and this 620M with two battery power packs. These are perfect ! I have used these at one outdoor event and one on location shot indoors. The setup is very easy and the battery lasts very long. I took about 150 photos at each of the events and there was still juice left in the power packs. I used one 620M and one 320M with separate battery packs for each monolight...
