• This 16" reflector has 4 sockets and comes with four 55 watt flicker-free fluorescent, spiral bulbs. These bulbs are similar to the CF energy saver bulbs; they differ in that they are rated at 5500 degrees Kelvin; that is they are daylight balanced. 55 watts in fluorescents translates into 1000 watts of light output. There are 4 switches on the back of the unit so you can use the bulbs in 1 to 4 - either pair at a time or all.

These long lasting cool lights emit very little heat and can stay on all day long without a problem.

The Flashpoint CL-4 can be used with Digital Cameras or Camcorders and is great for shooting portraits, or still life.

Better than expect VERY pleased

Better than expected, I am very pleased.Quick setup and adaptable to many shooting styles. A nice powerful unit without the heat. Also makes a good modeling light for dedicated flash systems. Light quality and white balance are excellent, really nothing I say bad about the light. A handy inexpensive addition to the studio, well worth the price.

Not bad for the price

I got mine last week and 2 bulbs were DOA. Awaiting Adorama's response on that, Tested them using a couple of 40's instead of 55's for initial test. Build quality is fine for the price point. They are however, cumbersome as heck and have to be put back in their boxes for storage. They should have been made to clip together face to face with the bulbs in. The unboxing and set up time ...screwing all the bulbs in etc. is ridiculous, To check output I used an L-358 light meter. I set up one Vivi...

They are however, cumbersome as heck and have to be put back in their boxes for storage. They should have been made to clip together face to face with the bulbs in. The unboxing and set up time ...screwing all the bulbs in etc. is ridiculous, To check output I used an L-358 light meter. I set up one Vivitar 285 shooting into an umbrella softbox 10' from my target 1/4 power and 1/60 sec at ISO 400 and at that distance got F4.5 With all 8 bulbs on (albeit 2 were only 40's) I had to move both to 7' from my target to get the same exposure. So 1 Vivitar 285 shooting into a 40" softbox umbrella at full power, puts out 5 times the light of 410 watts of fluorescent which equates to something like 1640 watts of incandescent. The advantage is that for stills it is WYSIWYG and having the controllability of 4 switches on each head is nice, Color balance was excellent. Just very slightly cool and I made a preset in LR to correct as many as I shoot in a session ...all at once, So ...don't expect to be shooting anything that twitches or blinks with these, While they are 'Daylight fluorescent' ...it is weak daylight and you must be pretty close. I'd watched a Doug Gordon video on them where he talked about using them outside in daylight and I think that's a real stretch. A decent small flash would be a lot more portable and less susceptible to a blow over. If the subject was back lit by the sun, a reflector would bounce as much light onto the subject to open up the shadows. For small product photography or indoor headshots and even tight, full length shots these will probably work fine. Without a way to clamshell 2 of them together face to face with bulbs in however ...any storage, transportation and set up ...will be a pain in the posterior region with a risk of breaking bulbs. As mentioned I'm going to rig mine for that to add convenience to the WYSIWYG convenience they offer. Actually I just found a way! Used a dowel through the umbrella shaft holes to skewer them face to face with 1" foam in between. Drilled the dowel at each end to put a little clevis through. Good shooting!

Makes product photography enjoyable.

By

from Saint Clair Shores, MI  -  Photo Enthusiast

I started taking photos for an ebay venture. My space to shoot is limited and I find these lights do not heat up the area even when I am using three of them. The wattage is adjustable, since any of the four bulbs can be turned off when I want to reduce the light output. I don't find anything negative about them other than they are not the best if you want a portable lighting set up. I will purchase more as I shoot more product. I have recommended them to friends who are looking for studio lighting if they can shoot at a slow speed. I have purchased a plastic container with a lid that they easily fit into and can be stored when not in use. I was a professional studio photographer when I was much younger, but had changed professions. Now I am enjoying it so much more and these lights make it more enjoyable. Thank you... rg295

Flashpoint VL9025 Cool Light 4 16in Refl

By

Love this Flashpoint light setup, I now have four to add to my arsenal of lighting in my studio. Great bang for the buck. I purchased with stand included to increase my savings. Only draw back is the build quality of the mounting assembly, care must be exercised when adjusting.

Wish I would have bought these sooner

By

In need of continuous cool lights, on a budget? Try these Flashpoints they worked great for me. Product arrived well packaged, and in perfect condition. Plenty bright for products & portrait shots. Diffuser was a nice addition & my umbrella's attached fine. The weak point is the plastic attachment, & I really dislike the clacking noise the attachment makes when tilting the lights. A metal attachment for a few extra dollars would have been worth it. Still quite happy with my purchase for the cost, put them right to use.

A great value.

I would give these lights 5 stars if the construction were a bit more robust...but then they wouldn't be a fraction the cost of their competitors either. As far as the quality of light? Excelent for CFL reflector heads. Treat them carefully and they should last a long while, just don't expect them to travel. They're not up to abuse of any kind. For my needs in a very small studio they are perfect.

Already paid for themselves.

I am painter / photographer I use these for both activities. Though the sockets are a bit light weight, for the price nothing else out there comes near the value cost ratio of these units. Just make sure to get the newer model which accommodates an umbrella the first model of these units does not.

When it works it does

By

I bought this to use as a back/head/hair light for online commercial videos I produce for Yelp. The initial unit I received was defective. One of the bulb switch was loose and does not turn the bulb off combined with broken bulbs. I got the replacement and the unit works except for one of the bulbs that was either defective or max out it life span...when turned on the first time the base of the bulb was lit for few seconds and then went dead. Adorama has a good customer service and am satisfied with their return policy. The unit is very bright and produces enough light for my need. The light stand mount could have been better but for the price I can live with it. I intend to get another two for three light setup as it is more portable compared to my soft boxes.

Works Great and Fast Customer Service

By

from Torrance, CA  -  Semi-pro Photographer

These lights are really a great value. They produce a perfect light for my video production, they run cool and they come with a defusser. I wish the mounting was a little sturdier. I bought 2 units and when they arrived one of the boxes had 2 broken bulbs. I caalled customer service and they shipped 2 replacements the next day.

Worth the dough

By

from Fairfax, VA  -  Semi-pro Photographer

The build of the stand adapter was a bit flimsier than expected, but then again for the price I can't complain. The sock diffuser is a slight struggle to put on, but I'm not a huge fan of them in the first place. My biggest gripe is that it doesnt fit my 60" Wescott ubmrella; the hole for the umbrella pole is slightly smaller than the umbrella pole. The light (luminosity and color) is good. Color shifts green, but for the inexpensive bulbs that come with the package it is manageable. You will need to use a custom WB or fix in post, that is if you are seeking perfection. The overall temperature of the light is spot on though. I will probably be purchasing a second one soon to use for a fill light.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
MATTHEW J T  Even more light, at a relatively inexpensive price.
Shopper  Can the reflector be removed from the light (looking to maybe use it with an Wescott Apollo type soft box or strip box for more light control)?
RICK S  No, It's pretty much one piece.
Richard R  The fuse blew so I need the specs on it? Thanks
ROBERT S  I looked at my fuse, it is a 5A (5 amp) standard fuse you should be able to get at any hardware store. I noticed you are using 55 watt bulbs, I am using 45 watt bulbs and haven't had a problem. You could have just a bad fuse to begin with or maybe you could use a 8 or 10 amp fuse.
