Zero Complaints

This product is amazing. After reading some poor reviews, I decided to take a chance, and boy was I happy! Yes, the shutter release cable is exposed, but it isn't noticeable and doesn't get in the way. It is very lightweight, and cheap. I have nothing ill to say about this product.

Works as it should

I got this to extend the size of the grip on my D3100 to better fit my hand. It does that well, on the plus side is also holds two EN-EL14 batteries, extending the number of shots between charges. Build quality is so so, but for the price what can you expect? Until Nikon makes one this is about all you can expect for quality. Beyond the cheap feel and build it does add an improved grip for larger hands. I Use mine outdoors mostly in less than ideal conditions. I don't mind knocking it in the dirt to get the shot. It has held up so far. I would recommend this if you are looking for a better grip on your camera and longer battery life, just be careful with it.

Does the job !

I do a lot of event photography. There were moments when i had to stop and change batteries and some very crucial shots were missed. Having this grip has literally doubled my shooting time without any compromise. Not to mention the portrait shutter release button; added comfort. The fact that the cable is necessary for the functionality of the vertical shutter button is not an issue. It literally doesn't bother me at all; Position it in a such a way that it doesn't become an inconvenience .

Keep in mind you get what you pay for...

This is the first battery grip I have ever had for the first DSLR I have ever owned. With that said I really like this thing. It has extended my battery life and improves the overall feel of the camera especially when I hold in for vertical portraits. It does not feel like an industrial strength professional grip and it isn't. I think that it fits the camera nicely though. Having to use the little wire plugged into the side of the camera is a little weird at first but you get used to it and I don't think it's that big of a con. On a side note, I was able to use a third party battery in the grip in conjunction with a Nikon battery even though that the third party battery wouldn't work alone. Overall I would recommend this grip for anyone wanting a little more battery life and a better hold on their camera.

IT works, not bad for the money

[*] there are lots of YouTube videos [...]- The shutter release cable along the side is disconcerting. I have a new cable that I will lose someday, and an open rubber flap that doesn't have a good place to rest. These components can't take much abuse in this configuration I'm sure. A more elegant solution -- one that I'd pay for -- is some sort of covering on that side of the camera that could also be used as a grip.- No battery meters. It looks like both batteries are wired in parallel, which probably means that they'll both die at about the same time? I'd pay extra for something to tell me the charge level (and health?) of both batteries. And I wonder how a genuine Nikon battery would fare when teamed to an off-brand?- No power jack to recharge the batteries without removing them from the unit.Adorama, if you get a better version for more $$$, call me -- I will buy it! But until then, this is a good investment for the money.
