About Flashpoint CL-312B

Light enough to go anywhere.
Enough light to go everywhere!

Flashpoint's BiColor 312B on-camera portable LED light provides action videographers and still photographers who use DSLR's and HD camcorders with a bi-color wide wash of extended illumination from a standard 60° spread. The precision color temperature dial regulates between 3200-5600K to provide lightening fast solutions for the 'run and gun' shooters, moving from one lighting situation to the next ambient environmental challenge. The twin power options uses almost any capacity industry standard Sony or Panasonic type lithium battery cells and doubles your staying presence in the field. Our LED lights provide visually accurate color temperatures, flicker-free output, and nocolor shift when dimming. When used outdoors, the small, self-contained LED light produces copious fill light to alleviate deep shadows, while blending ambient available light to add modeling to subjects.

With superior design, this 'go anywhere' device fits comfortably atop the hot shoe of your camera or off-camera via the convenient stand thread. This 312B model offers a clear digital battery power level verification for the ever vigilant. Brightness levels are controlled by stepless control dials on the rear, assure flicker free shooting.

The light can be linked by means of hotshoe type tracks to dovetail on vertical and horizontal configurations with sister units to create a multi-panel power array.

The latest LED technology.
Uncompromised light quality.
Unheard of value.

Qliq Qwip
One of the brightest advances in technology is the advent of the light-emitting diode (LED), a two-lead semiconductor light source. When an appropriate voltage is applied to the leads, electrons are able to recombine with electron 'holes' within the device, releasing energy in the form of photons. This effect is called electroluminescence, and the color of the light is determined by the specific energy band gap of the semiconductor.

Impressed yet? No?
LEDs are small, durable and need little power, so they are used in LED strobe lights or continuous camera lights without detrimental heat output, and operate at a safe, low voltage, instead of the 250+ volts commonly found in xenon strobe tube-based lighting. This is especially useful in lighting for videographers, where space is at a premium and bulky voltage-raising circuitry is undesirable.

Each LED gem glows with exceptional brilliance of light and human genius that old Thomas Edison would have surely appreciated.

I have tried the cheap LEDS available on the internet as well as the expensive name brand LEDs. This one exceeded every one of my expectations. This light works great as an on-camera light. At first glance it looks and feels like a lot of soft plastic, but can handle the "stress and rigors" of being an on-camera light for a handheld event videographer. The slim Sony type batteries keep the unit well balanced and even drain power. It is easy to access the color temperature and dimmer knobs, even while recording handheld video. Although it adds weight and throws off the balance, there is a convenient accessory cold shoe on the top, perfect for a wireless receiver. The quality of the light being output is very good. The color temperature seems to be accurate at both the 3200k as well as the 5600K settings without annoyingly harsh color tints. The included diffusion panel is great for softening the light for a more pleasing look. In a dimly lit reception hall, At minimum power, the unit outputs enough light to illuminate a subject 4-6 feet away without annoying glare. At maximum power, the unit can easily illuminate a group of people 15- 20 feet away.

Defective Charger Port

Save your packaging! Got this with a broken transformer input charger port. Love the light output with battery power but can't plug into AC. Threw away the packaging before I knew it was defective so now I'm stuck and can't return it or even find out how to get it repaired.

Nice Little Light!

By

from Virginia

I shoot (stills primarily) a lot on the run for a local newspaper and tend to use available light. This light has been perfect adding a bit here and there in a dial-able mode from tungsten to daylight with a dimmer switch as well! Portrait of a chef in a kitchen, food plates, small products in a fast and easy to use what you see is what you get fashion. My only con is the battery life. Hard to say, maybe 25 minutes. Otherwise 5 stars!

So Good I bought another

By

from New York

I used this product for a while as an on camera light. It it amazing. It is lightweight and ergonomic to use. My original concern was that the unit seemed to be cheaply built and had a plastic, almost flimsy feel, but the unit proved to be reliable and well made The color temperatures are accurate. The batteries power the unit at full power for several hours. I bought a second light to mount on a stand and use as a side light or backlight. It is great because it is low profile, portable, and powerful, yet efficient. I will probably be purchasing another one very soon as a three point interview lighting kit.

Will likely be getting more of these!

By

from Baltimore MD

My very first impression upon opening the box was a bit negative. The product felt cheaply built. Also the batteries didn't slide in very easily, as if the socket for them was not made to the exact proper size. Finally the mounting system was a bit cumbersome and confusing to set right. All that aside I was very impressed with the actual functionality of this light when compared with other LEDs I already use. It has a real true step-less dimmer that can be set to any brightness. The temperature is controlled by having two color lights and a knob adjusts the brightness of them. Even with the tempurater set to the extremes (half the LEDs are off), the light still proved to be very bright and effective. I tested it mainly at wedding during which the ballroom lights were turned of in place of disco lights. I found myself still able to get a very reasonable image using my light without having to raise my ISO. I would definitely recommend getting extra/bigger batteries to go along with this as the ones it comes with do not last very long. I did not give this product 5 stars, but only because of the cheap build. On functionality alone this is the best on-camera light I've used so far and I will probably be getting a few more them.

Excellent Video & Photo light

By

from Vero Beach, Fl  -  Film Professional

Bought 3 of these 1 for my video guy and 2 for me, well my video guy loves it says it worked as good as his 4 other expensive light but not as strongly made. Mine worked great for wedding photography, my second shooter loved it so much and was getting such great shots that I gave here one of mine to keep. The only reason I gave it 4 stars not 5 was the first time out the battery relies button broke off, but battery still stays on so no big deal but wish it was made a little stronger.

great little led

By

from Washington DC, Baltimore area  -  Film Professional

good little light, decent output for the size. only about an hr battery life, i did put some np-f960's on them which upped the time quite a bit. the lack of ac adapter is a little annoying, but its a pretty standard thing thats easy to get. great on a boom arm as a back light, or little pop light. don't go in thinking you will get the same intensity as even a lowell mini-pro (250w), you will be disappointed, but works well in conjunction with other lighting or for a dimmer look. will give you a little fill for daylight if you have a dim, or window key. barn doors would be nice. i ordered four for shoot, one came with a dimmer/chip/power issue. had to send it back for different one.

Good Light but Build Quality is ok

By

from Houston, Tx  -  Tech Savvy

Purchased this and an Ikan iLed312 ( this flashpoint appears to be a copy of that light) to compare and decide if the Ikan price was justified. First off the build quality it OK not great but for the price it is good enough. The Ikan however is heavier and even feels and look sturdier. The accessories included with the Ikan are much much better, and the diffusion panel is way easier to attach. Even the charger is much nicer and swapping batteries is much easier on the Ikan. But all that aside the light output is actually the same as the ikan They both are bright and even. The only problem i noticed was a slight green shift on the 3200K setting. However the 5600K setting was exactly the same as the Ikan. So for the money you get almost the same light quality and same quantity. However I did end up returning the flashpoint brand because of one reason. The TEMPERATURE KNOB ON MY UNIT WAS REVERSED. (Bad quality control) Other than that this is a good light for someone starting out with LED Lights.

Gwen M  Where was this item manufactured? Thanks!
STEVE P  Like so many items, the Flashpoint is made in China.
Shopper  Hi guys, I believe begest problem with current LED description is the fact that it doesn't say types of batteries that it takes. So if you can please talk about different types of batteries that this light can take and it would be nice if I would know clearly if I need to purchase batteries or not?
JERRY B  It comes with 2 batteries and charger. Also has adaptors for 2 other types of batteries. All the info is in the write-up.
