Questions & Answers

MELISSA J : Neither "A" or "B" say theyare compatible with Nikon SB700. Which one should I buy?DENNIS S : I only have (older) SB800 and SB600, and I'm not sure of the "footprint" of the SB700. So, I'm not sure, but I suspect the B (which I have) will probably work with the SB700 and SB900/910.CHRISTOPHER J : Hello Melissa H. I use my on Nikon SB800's not the 700's you should try and find out if the head size on the 700 is the same as the 800 if it is should work no problem. Please note as with all this sorts of mods, they are tricky to keep on the speedlights. Good luck. Chris Johnston Omaruru Namibia
Shopper : what's the main difference between using a beauty light and using a ring flash?HOWARD B : I don't know i never used a ringlight. SorryTHOMAS P : Easy. A beauty light is an off camera source and a ring flash encircles the lens and is on axis with the lens. The ring flash will produce a very flat light and give a "glow shadow" around the subject. The beauty light will produce directional light, producing shadows. When used with the grids and filters you can produce a sharp (but feathered) splash of light anywhere in your scene. I've used a pair of grided beauty lights to get good rim light when using a large soft box in front as a fill.FRANK M : The beauty dish spreads the light from above the camera to soften and diffuse for portraits and weddings. A ring light flashes somewhat bright light from around all points of the lens which gives a glamorous kind of bright light and causes catch lights in models eyes.JAMES S : I've nevever used a ring flash but would assume that since it normally is used encirlcling the lense that it pretty much eliminates shadows in really close up images. The beauty dish can only be mounted on the hotshoe or used remotely on a stand which means it will always be on an angle giving at least some shadows in the image. The hilights in the eyes of the models will also show the uniques pattern of lights in the ring flash. The ring flash works well for macro photography also (flowers, bugs etc).
Shopper : Mentions SB800 compatible. Is it SB910 (Nikon) compatible as well?VINCENT R : I don't know about the Nikon accessories. It fits perfectly with the 400 series Canon Speedlites.TOM O : Can't say from experiience, but the strap that attaches it to the speedlite head is quite good and will likely fit almost any strobe. I'm using it on SB800s will good results. TomRICHARD B : Sorry, can't help. I know it fits SB-800 and SB-600 but I don't ownan SB-910.REGINALD C : Do you have a beauty dish 20" inch that fits a Interfit Monolight 300 series system older model.

i love this item!!!

i don't have much to say about this item,.i really like how easy it is to mount on my flash and the results i get in my pictures. On the other side, its a little fragil since it has to be light weight for the flash so just be careful when you pack it up.

Outstanding product

I have virtually every type of modifier for Nikon Speedlights (Fong, Demb, Stofen, Harbor Digital, Lumniquest, you name it), and this little Flashpoint beauty dish is the best of the lot. For best results, order the gel/diffuser kit, and use the plain (neutral) diffuser for general photography. The dish is light-weight, and yet sturdy, and consistently produces pleasing, natural-looking light (with little or no hotspots or blown highlights). Never a need to point the Speedlight toward a cieling or wall for "bounce" lighting (in either landscape, or portrait position). Just aim at the subject and shoot. Review. If the light is a bit too strong, simply bring down the flash compensation a tad, and the exposure is just right. It's the only diffuser I know of that provides simultaneos reflective light, as well as diffused light (with the diffuser attached) without light loss (because the Speedlight is aimed directly at the subject). It's like having a nice miniature studio softbox mounted right on your camera. Just what I was looking for. Sample pic is my first test shot with the Flashpoint Q.

Nice soft-light diffuser

Of course it won't ttl accurately but it does give you a nice spread, soft light when shooting relatively close. Perfect for a hand held fill or hair light while on location.

Great Catch Lights!

By Kllsu

The attached very securely to my Olympus FL50-R. The catch lights created were consistent indoors and outdoors. Very nice little dish.

The "Q" Series Beauty Dish Reflector measures 6" in diameter and comes with a silver deflector panel. It redirects the bounced, rectangular output of a standard shoe flash into a more diffused, flattering pattern of light. Light emitted using the Beauty Dish Reflector is soft and shadowless. Just like the name implies the result is similar to using a studio beauty dish reflector.

The Beauty Dish is secured to the flash with a velcro strap.

Available in "A" and "B" series. Size "B" fits: Canon 480Ex, 430Ex, 420Ex, 380Ex, 430EZ Nikon SB800, SB600, SB800Dx, SB28, SB26, SB25, Minolta 5600hs, 5400xi/hx, 5200i, 3600, Olympus FL40, FL50, G40, Sony HVLF1000, HVLF32x, Nissin 360TW, 360T xP, PZ400C-N-M.
