About Flashpoint

• This 24" softbox is easy to assemble, just snap the hardware into place. No rods to struggle with, no speed rings to align with the rods. The unit uses flicker-free fluorescent, spiral bulb. The bulb is similar an energy saver bulb; it differs in that it is rated at 5500 degrees Kelvin; that is, it is daylight balanced. 70 watts in fluorescents translates into 350 watts of light output.

This long lasting "cool" light emits very little heat and can stay on all day long without a problem.

The Flashpoint Softbox can be used with Digital Cameras or Camcorders and is great for shooting portraits, or still life.

And, when you're done (after removing the bulb) the unit folds together easily like an umbrella.

Make sure not to use larger than 70 watt as they turn too hot

I would buy this again

I mount this on a light stand, and the Octa box sets up in a jiffy. Nice soft lighting for head shots.

VS

Most Liked Negative Review

Cheap construction

The plastic at the base that holds the metal ribs in place chipped off leaving about 4 ribs loose. I bought two of them and they both broke in the same manner. They lasted a week and a half. It is a great idea at a great price, but needs to be made of better materials. So for now I am giving this box a thumbs down rating.

Nice product ~ Not very flexible

By

from Toledo, OH  -  Semi-pro Photographer

I use the product for a photobooth at a recent event. It worked well for the most part. I hated that the light itself doesn't rotate. If I wanted the light lowered, I had to adjust the tripod. It was pretty annoying, and I probably wouldn't have purchased the product if I would have known that. Overall though, the light is bright and works really well!

The base is plastic. My first one broke, but I had bought 2 spare bulbs. So I bought another. Just be careful putting up and taking down.

Good Video Light - One Issue

By

from Central Connecticut  -  Semi-pro Photographer

I bought two of these flourescent lights for a video shoot so that I'd have something portable and compact, but with decent light output. It takes about 2 minutes for these to come up to full brightness, but once they do I had enough light and could leave them on for a full two hours without worrying about heat build up or models frying under the lights. I had set these up twice before using them, so there would be no surprises. Everything lit up well, but I did notice that keeping the diffuser covers in place was challenging, so decided to use adhesive backed velcro tabs, which worked out well. The biggest disappointment with these lights is the really marginal soft aluminum lined sockets in the fixtures which accept the large florescent bulbs. After one use and careful screwing in of the bulbs, the aluminum socket threads had actually flattened enough to no longer reliably accept the bulb bases and onsite, I had to spend a good 10 minutes securing a bulb in one of the two I was using. I looked at the socket and couldn't believe how chinsey the socket threads were - real junk, unfortunately. I feel that for fifty bucks Adorama can deliver a better product. I have FlashPoint Monolights and have been very happy with the quality, but this light, while useful, is poorly constructed of cheap materials.

The connector to lightstand broke off when tightened lightly. Now I need to rig it to make it work.

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
ENID G  liked the shape however it didn't last and the socket that holds the bulb crumbled after only a few uses. Adorama wouldn't replace it.
Shopper  Please let me know the queality of this softbox.. appreciate the help in advance.. (?)
RICHARD D  This is a high quality softbox. It is one of the most convenient softboxes I have because of the pop-up design. My only problem is that even with large lights, it still is not as bright as a softbox that uses a monolight.
