I have used this for portraits and at events, but honestly I'm not sure that I couldn't have produced the same results with a bounce card and the card is easier to carry. It can help you soften shadows, but about 80% of the time I still bounce off the ceiling when using it indoors. Also, it is difficult to fit into a small camera bag - they should have included a way to hang it on the outside of a bag or a belt clip, then i would probably carry it more often. I have tried using velcro to attach it to my bag, but it still sometimes falls off. i still use it sometimes, but wouldn't buy it again.

I'm still pretty much a "newbie" when it comes to DSLR photogrpahy. Indoor flash photography has been my biggest nemesis. The Gary Fong diffuser really takes the edge off, literally. No more harsh shadows or washed out photos! It's a great product.

This is not a product you can just pull out of the box and get great results with right away. However with some trial and errer and watching the Gary Fong videos you can get the lightsphere to create fairly decent lighting. It just takes a while to get used to the idea of shooting at iso 800 when using flash. This picture was shot with the inverted dome on.

I like this diffuser, but it does take up a lot of room in the camera bag. Perhaps the collapsible version would have been a better choice.

It works no better than a Stofen diffuser or the diffuser that comes with Nikon Flashes. [...]

The product is very durable and requires little protection against small bumps and drops. The softness of the diffusion generates great results.

Used with a Nikon D90 and SB-600 flash. I have been searching for something like this for a while now and have finally found it. The Lightsphere is everything I could have imagined. Prior to obtaining the Lightsphere, I was using a simple square plastic diffuser. While this worked in most cases, it is nothing in comparison to the Lightsphere when considering final image quality. I used it indoors at a wedding rehearsal the first time and found it to produce very warm skin tone with a perfect amount of diffusion. Minimal post processing needed saving valuable time. The only negative thing I could find is the size, but once you see the results it can provide, the size won't matter a bit!

I own two Gary Fong diffusers, the clear and the clouded lightsphere. Both of these diffusers offer a great range of light dispersion across a wide space. I've been able to fill an entire room with light and eliminate many dark shadows that typically happen with a pop up flash or a mounted flash. When taking pictures of people, I get a soft touch of light on the skin rather than a bright spot. It's not the greatest tool to use with high ceilings, but it still does a good job.

The light is beautiful but it takes up a ton of room in my bag. I like the portabilty of the LumaQuest foldable one better althogh the light isnt quite as soft and pretty.

The lightsphere works very well in small rooms. The quality of light is amazing. I also like the orange cap for matching the tungston light in most situations. The only con is it will use alot of powe increasing the recycle time of the flash.

If you are working with a sigle flash, this greatly improves the quality of light.

I was pretty amazed at how this small device on the end of my flash helped produce no shadows at the weddings that I photograph.

I like it for soft shadows, But the extra wieght it places on my flash limits angles. Sometimes it just flops the flash head over or down. It can get loose and fall off also. I like the color and shadow free pictures, but sometimes it is just too big to mess with.

Had major problems recently with indoor flash in a church sanctuary. Tried LightSphere and results were noticably improved. Does not reach as far as had hoped but will definitely be using it on a regular basis. Would recommend to anyone with similar problems.

Does everything they claim it does.I use it on my Nikon sb600. It has a snug fit and stays put.It does take up some space in the bag though.

This is great for softening light, comes in very handy, I use it mostly for weddings. Just wish it didn't take up quite so much bag space. Gonna buy another in the future.

I' ve took this diffuser to a wedding and got very good results. This difusser spreads the light in all directions mixing the flash light with the ambient light creating a very nice mood. You will not believe you took that picture, no more harsh shadows or flash reflections on peoples foreheads. I truly recommend it.

This is an amazing piece of equipment. For all that do want to soften flash light and even get some kind of "studio effect" for your images, you cannot go wrong with this. Very well thought.

I think it works well but does not fit well in a camera bag. Great at wedding receptions. Love it. Next week golf tournament. Thanks

The Lightsphere works well with or without the use of a bracket. Shadows that may have been previously noticeable are softened enough to become negligible. With a bracket they are practically nonexistent. A good product overall, with a very useful instructional CD as part of the package.

this is the best portable light diffuser I'ver ever used. I no longer carry umbrellas and stands since I've used this product. It gives near perfect studio quality lighting each time without the use of multiple flash setup. I highly recommend it.

It really does what it says. I'm getting great light easily in both landscape and portrait orientations without a bracket. That alone is worth the price. Informative CD that comes with it is worth watching to learn the little tricks to help maximize its use. Its a little bulky to carry around, but for an event the little extra space is well worth it. It will slip easily around a lens for storage and is essentially unbreakable.

What are the differences between the Lightsphere CLEAR and CLOUD? Which one is better for my situation? Which Lightsphere is best for any given setting is as much a matter of photographer preference and loyalty as anything. Many pros carry both styles in their gear bag for varyi ng lighting situations.
Both Lightspheres provide excellent diffusion and studio quality light from your on-camera flash. Both are made of flexible, premium grade vinyl and include the inverted dome made of hard, translucent plastic.
The Lightsphere-Photojournalist (PJ) is made of soft, transparent vinyl, and currently comes in two colors - CLEAR and CLOUD. The light quality transmitted through the CLEAR is somewhat cooler and a little more contrasty when compared to the CLOUD. The Lightsphere-CLEAR maximizes diffusion while minimizing light loss, allowing it to be used at greater distances. The CLEAR is highly recommended for photojournalistic assignments and general purpose photography.
The Lightsphere-CLOUD creates a more diffuse, softer, and somewhat warmer light. For this reason, it is well suited for "portrait style" lighting situations, where skin tones and flattering light are the primary focus.
Gary recommends, "Choose the CLEAR version for fast action, large groups and dimly lit scenes. Switch to the new CLOUD for the softest, warmest light yet. Great for close-ups, portraits, couples and intimate group shots."
Hint... Gary is IN LOVE with the light he achieves from the CLOUD, it really suits his current
