This works very well with the built in strobes of most cameras. it has a plastic mounting plate that slides into the hot shoe, and the diffuser just slides into a slot in the plate, and is easy and quickly removable.

Absolutely the best! I use it on interior photography mostly, lighting up an entire room. The best.....!

Incredible, it somehow removes all shadows and makes a full power flash soft light!!! Worth it. ( not sponsored by anyone)

As odd as it looks, it works! I really like the collapsible model. Otherwise the bulky shape and size would be an issue. The design offers flexibility and use depending on the situation. It is obvious that a lot of thought, testing, and use went into this product. iIt has every appearance of being a durable product, but I I am confident that it will stand up to the test.

I got the lightsphere for Christmas and tested it out for a week in various settings. Here are my observations:1. It has difficulty staying on the camera - fell off during a photo shoot which was sort of embarrassing. The method of attachment is a velcro strap which is supposed to fix it in place via friction - it doesn't work well.2. But the bigger problem is that it does not noticeably improve the lighting you get by simply bouncing your flash off the ceiling without the lightsphere. If it noticeably improved my photos, I would pay the ($). But since it didn't, I'm sending it back.

Works to really soften up those harsh shadows produced from on-camera flash!

Diffuses the light pretty well. However, build feels kinda cheap and the lid to the cup sometimes pops off, which is annoying when you’re constantly snapping it back in. Not sure how significant the difference between the cloud and clear models is.

What I like: As basic as it gets. Truly plug 'n play. Used it for some candid shots and the light quality made ME look good!

It shouldn't be that difficult to throw it on and use it but I haven't found this to be very flattering. My clients complain about how bright it is too. I don't see a huge difference between this and using the diffuser on the off-camera flash to be honest. I'm thinking about returning it because it's not doing anything for me and I just don't see myself using it. It seems to only serve a very specific purpose and I haven't found that yet.

I like the construction and mounting. I did casual shots before a high school graduation, pulled the flash for the event. The staging area had a good low white ceiling, good for bouncing. When I do it again I would take off the dome to get more light from above. The shadows behind were a slight bit heavy. It is a nice piece, I just need to work with it more. I always rubber banded a white card to my flash, thought the lightsphere was a step in the right direction.

It does the job but it's a little bulky, not that easy to put on the speedlite, and the hard plastic dome piece falls off sometimes.

I've always wanted a way to balance the color and lighting in a photo without the hassle of multiple off-axis flashes or soft boxes. I'm amazed that something so simple can transform a photo so effectively.

After having issues while shooting in areas with high ceilings, I thought Id give it a try. I followed Gary's youtube vids and tried it both inside and outside. Really like the softness and versatility. Easy to pack and attach as well. I even use the dome provided when shooting direct and its still not flat. Money well spent.

I found the speed mount easy to use and easy to mount to my flash. Once attached it held the light sphere in place quite firmly and when I was finished shooting, I found it easy to remove. Very satisfied with the way it attaches to the flash. However, the dome that fits on top of the sphere is a different story.

Bought it based upon Gary's own comparison video. Obviously done under closely controlled circumstances by a biased "reviewer," but it is in fact a pretty useful device. Not perfect due to taking up a goodly chunk of room in the camera bag (yes, even folded), more suited to an event photographer than a casual shooter. Apart from this, it does do a nice job of softening the light.

Have used one of these for only 3 event shoots. Noticed last night that it is cracked. It does what it is supposed to do as far as diffusion, but it's not much for durable.

particularly good for indoor use where bounce flash can be used. Also used it straight on outdoors, where it provides a bit of softening.

Works good indoors when the cealings are too high to bounce the flash. The front doom could hold better. Over all its a good option.

I have been using Gary lightsphere since 2007. So this was a mandatory purchase. But I'm still using both.

Best Lightsphere ever!!
By dan1963
First this the best Lightsphere that Gary has put out yet. Use this when shooting events and I really like the light quality compared to all the past models. I know Gary referred this as a "5th generation Lightsphere" but this really should be considered the 6th generation. 3rd generation of the collapsible models. Maybe no one noticed this but the first collapsible had a different mounting system that was vertical shark teeth for the grip and was thinner more transparent making it easier fo...

good piece of equipment

gary fong lightesphere works to soften and make on camera flash less ugly. i lost my old collapsible one and the non collapsible is awkward to travel with.
As with previous generations, the Gary Fong Lightsphere Collapsible Speed Mount will continue to provide photographers with the ability to achieve studio-style lighting effects, anywhere at anytime. Collapsing down to a mere 1 1/2 inch thickness, this new addition to the Gary Fong line-up will make traveling with large lighting set-ups a thing of the past. Better yet, the new Lightsphere Collapsible Speed Mount boasts the newly designed mounting system which allows photographers to securely attach and switch out modifiers in seconds. Once in place, photographers can rest assured that the Lightsphere Collapsible Speed Mount will stay securely in place, offering an equally tight fit for nearly all flash sizes.
The new Speed Snoot, with the same collapsible design and patented mount found in the Lightsphere Collapsible Speed Mount, gives photographers maximum efficiency and directional control over strobe lighting when mounted off-camera, allowing one to create cutting edge, "fashion style" special effects. The black finish of the Speed Snoot blocks the light spilled out of the sides of the diffuser so instead of filling a room with soft light, the photographer can project the light directly onto the subject with a controlled yet soft burst that is great for hair highlighting, selective lighting of subjects, or highlighting a subject against a busy background. In other words, the Speed Snoot allows you to focus light into the areas you want to highlight, and more importantly away from the areas you don't.
Whether a photographer is shooting a backyard wedding, a senior portrait session or products for advertising, these latest additions to the Gary Fong line-up will make strenuous set-ups and toting around large lighting equipment a thing of the past. The travel-friendly qualities and clever design of the Lightsphere Collapsible Speed Mount and Speed Snoot are sure to make these diffusers staples of gear bags everywhere.
