My First Great Pocketknife

Back in the 80s while in college, I owned two knives: an Imperial folder, and a Buck 110. The Buck was great but felt like a brick in my pocket, and I got funny looks if I wore it to class on a belt holster. The Imperial was small, light, and convenient, but it couldn't hold an edge and it didn't lock. It had limited utility. Then someone gave me a Gerber LST. It was perfect! Light, sharp, easy to use, and with a reliable lockback similar to my Buck. I carried it for years until I lost it. Today, I cannot give it 5 stars because it now has so much competition. But at its price point, it's hard to find a better lightweight pocket knife.

The LST is my favorite pocket knife. It is light, has a slim profile, and durable. I have carried the first one I purchased for over 15 years before losing it yesterday. Fortunately, I had a couple of spares stored away so I am outfitted again. This is the only small pocket knife that I recommend. It is very easy to carry and the blade is long enough for 99% of my usual tasks. Good product, Gerber!

I have had one of these knives, or the ultralight in the change pocket of my jeans for years now. The only problem is that because they are so unobtrusive I keep losing them. I need to buy more but they have been out of stock for a while now. When will they be back in stock??

Retired ...

I bought this knife in Miami, Florida the late 1980s, had it stolen once, and recovered it. It survived Hurricane Andrew and has been a constant companion ever since. Whenever I need a good knife, it's always deep down inside my pocket. This knife is as much a part of my wardrobe as my pants, shirt, or shoes. Sharp, holds an edge, easy to maintain, and as loyal as a good dog.

Anywhere, anytime

About 20 - 25 years ago I cut an electrical cable under tension with it and the blade melted a little bit but it is still a all day tool for me.

The Old Reliable

I broke the blade last week stupidly trying to pry a heavy plastic fastener from a radiator support on my van. I have carried this in my back pocket without pain due to slim design and light weight. I got it as a thank you gift for buying chemicals around 1983 and transferred it from pants to pants every few days since then. It was so unobtrusive, I could take it with me even when wearing dress clothes. Ordering a new one now.

I've owned this knife for longer than I can remember, at least 10 years and it finally failed on me. The handle came apart nearly causing a serious injury. I wouldn't give a bad rating given the abuse I've put it through.

Fantastic

I work in a warehouse so I needed something light, sharp and compact. This is exactly what I needed. Outstanding knife.

I have had this knife since June 2000. I won it in a blind knife swap from my great uncle. It was in good shape when I got it from him, but I do not know it's age. I carried it daily for nearly 5 years (teenager into young adult). This knife has been through everything including one of my coworkers breaking the tip off of it by throwing it nose down on a commercial tile floor (never has anyone used one of my knives again since that day). My father regrouped the blade and shaped a new tip on it for me and I carried it for a few more years until I packed my bags for college. The knife went missing after that move and I thought it was lost forever. It always bugged me that I had lost that knife (blind knife swaps were a sentimental thing within my family). I found this knife about a month ago after another move. This knife had been stored it a unclimate controlled attic for 12 years and I am ecstatic to have finally found it again. The handle is in perfect condition and has become my primary carry once again. The blade is not perfect, but I have some serious history with this knife. I know this is not a high dollar knife but it is truly is my most favorite knife that I have ever carried. This is a slim simple knife that is perfect for EDC.

Awesome

This little knife was on sale and I figured it would be a good lock back for my son to use in scouts. It is small, sharp, and easy to handle. It has held up to it's first summer. I hope it last a lot longer. I fear the handle will give way first being it is all plastic it seems. Time will tell. For the learning it has taught, Priceless

I got one of these while in holdover for jump school in april 1990. Had to turn it in at the start of jump school, forgot to go back & get it. Bought a new one when I got to Germany. It was dummy corded to my belt for the next 3 1/2 years I was in the army. I stuffed it in a drawer & forgot about it. Just stumbled across it a few days ago & will probably give to my son who is currently serving w/ the 101st Screaming Eagles.

I have had mine since 1991 it has been to every country I went from the Jungle to Sandbox and a few other places. It is like my companion I no longer carry it in the airport and check it in when I fly ( to much red tape now) but pack in my checked luggage. I wish you still had them or something similar I love this blade

I bought an original in around 1980 in the Pearl Harbour PX and brought it back to Australia. Lost it only last year and was absolutely devastated. Had it longer than my wife and found it even more useful. This new one is as good and while not quite the same, is a great knife.

This has got to be the world's greatest knife. I own no less than six of these and constantly order more for gifts. I sure would love to have one of these twice the size of the existing one for other uses. Thank you Gerber!

I've had mine since the early 1990's when i worked as a sales clerk in a sporting goods store and got it from a sales rep after a product knowledge meeting. It's now a everyday carry, as important as my wallet and car keys. The reason that it is my go-to is because of the convenient clip.

Sharpened this knife with medium sharpmaker stones at 15 degree angle. Push cut lightweight magazine paper all the way through from top to bottom at fast speed. Just as sharp as any of my expensive knives, including those made in seki or sakai japan, and including all my benchmades knives. Pretty good knife for the money. Carry all the time due to it's light weight. Sometimes carry a bigger knife also.

Had this knife since 1986--been with me to China, India, Bosnia, Kenya, Tanzania, and all over the US (year round clipped to a climbing harness). Has Held up, can sharpen fairly easily and still holds an edge reasonably well, and weighs next to nothing. I cannot speak to current knives, but the one I got when I was still a kid has seen me through .

I've had one of these for many years. Still works perfectly, strong, tight lockup, blade still razor sharp. When I got mine it came with a clip that attaches via the lanyard hole, guess that's not included anymore?

Stays sharp, light yet basically indestructible, simple, solid and filets my sweet and dill pickles so thin I can see through them and make everything green. I own six of them now

I accidentally came into possession of this knife in 1988. Just lost it last October after 27 years. I had no idea it was still being produced until today and have purchased another. Best all purpose carry knife I have ever owned, and I have had several. Optional pocket clip may have saved me from losing it, Thanks Gerber

Nice knife but lacks the comfort of the LST II. I dont know what made you guys discontinue that style of knife. I'd by half a dozen at a time for work. It was the perfect size and fit great in my pocket. PLEASE bring it back!

I love this knife!!! I carry it everyday, everywhere. It keeps its razor edge through all kinds of cutting. I'm going to buy several more. My wife needs one. I want two for my hunting pack as spares, instead of a sharpener. At this size and weight, they're smaller and lighter... Great job, Gerber!

It's a nice little knife to have. Only flaw I've seen with it is it needs a pocket clip. Other than that its been a perfect little knife and one of the sharpest knives I've gotten out of the box.

I have carried one of this knife's for years. It lays flat in your pocked for when your carrying items that rest or rub against your leg. (Belt clip would be irritating.) Stays sharp and is not to expensive in the event that you lose it on the job site. Easy to open with one hand. Please never stop making this knife. I buy at lease one every year.

I, have owned an LST for more than 20 years. I own many other knives but this is is absoutely the best knife money can buy. It holds an edege better than a Buck, Case or any other knife that I have ever owned. I bought a 2nd one to put up incase I loose the original and will always carry a Gerber.

Gerber LST Drop Point Fine Edge Satin Finish Blade Knife Specifications

About Gerber LST Drop Point Fine Edge Satin Finish Blade Knife

The Gerber LST Drop Point Fine Edge Knife is 6.1" long when open, but it only weighs 1.2 oz. The synthetic glass-filled nylon handle is partly responsible for the light weight. This knife is certainly not small by any means. The coolest thing about the Gerber LST is that you can carry a nice sized knife in your pocket without tugging around the extra weight that comes with a big knife.
