It's a PULL saw.

High carbon steel. Use according to design. Do not push, twist or bend and it will stay sharp and last many years.

Lasted many years

I bought the Gerber Exchange-a-blade system probably 10 years ago. I've used it often. The mechanism in the handle finally gave way. I'm going to buy another since I've had good luck with it. Just to say, I've never changed a blade. The original blade in the handle is still razor sharp. Be sure to cut only on the pull. Pushing the blade can break it.

This is a pull saw. It will break if you push and bend it I have had mine for 8 years. The high carbon blade is very hard and mine is as sharp as it was the day I bought it. It has served me very well. When used as intended it will last a long time and is an excellent value.

I give three stars because it did work for awhile. But then the mechanism broke down. Something in the plastic case gave way. Once that happens the tool is useless because it can't hold the blade firmly in place any longer. Using plastic for tools that require a lot of force at times, is just not the right product design. I have replacement blades that I can't use now. I invested in this product thinking it would last. I'm going to ask for a new handle. Hopefully Gerber will honor my request and replace it free. Otherwise, I'll have to take my review to Yelp. The blades are great. Very good quality, but you have to design the entire product to last. That is what creates legendary reputation.

I've owned two of these saws, I've cut countless spike elk and mule deer antlers off. I've never broke my saw, I bought my second one after dueling the blade after cutting with it so much. I've never broke the handle or snapped the blade. It will cut through juniper tress great. Worth the money!

My first Gerber saw was great. My recent purchase was not. Not sure what changed.

I’ve had the same saw for years and I loved it. I broke the blade last year so I thought it was time to buy not only a new one for myself but I bought two so I could give one to a junior hunter that I’m introducing to archery hunting. I’m not sure what changed but the saw doesn’t cut well at all. The blade loads up and gets stuck in the smallest of limbs. It’s not binding. I’ve cut lots of trees so I know the difference. I’d actually wonder if there was a defect with the saws I bought. Like I said the first one I had was great.

I've had this saw for more than 10 years. I love it, _BUT_ the handle is a weak point in the design. As many others have mentioned the handle splits with the slightest torque on the blade. Perhaps the slightly more expensive and heavier model would have more metal instead of plastic at this stress point. I've returned the handle several times and each time Gerber provides the replacement. The blades occasionally bend, but I get new blades with each replacement handle. The blades stay sharp and are the best part of the design.

Nice Saw!

I have been using one for several years now, My hunting buddy was so impressed I had to buy him one. Light, portable and easy to use. I have used the bone blade on numerous occasions, but never tried the wood blade.

Great Saw!

I have been using one for the past 7 years during deer season. Never had any issues, light and speeds up the cleaning process. I have never used the wood blade to see how the saw would hold up, that is the reason for the 4 rating.

ok for the price

The last saw by Gerber was made in the USA. This one was NOT. The locking part of this saw is a little flimsy. Does not lock tight when open. The united states is falling way short in quality products made in the U.S. I buy American made when I can. This sale ad did not say made in China. Sorry guys I know that's not what you wanted to hear. But it is what it is.

No title just a hunter

Loved this unit. Cut many a moose and whitetail deer rib cage and never a problem. Trimmed lots of branches for my tree stands. Over the past dozen years or so it was main stay. I have now put it in a very safe place, so safe I cant find it. Just hope the replacement comes with the case as well.

Great product

I've used one for many, many years. I have cut limbs, small diameter logs, quartered many deer with it and it is still going very strong. Not sure they are still made in the USA but mine was. Great product. I hope if I ever wear a blade out I can get a replacement.

Used the saw for almost twenty years. Worked very well, but eventually failed. Will have replaced as Gerber has a lifetime warranty, hopefully the new one will be just as great!

I've had one of these for a long time but never put it to hard use. I took it on a trip and put it to the test for 5 days. The blade was very sharp and efficient. However, it's also relatively flimsy. That's the trade off for being light weight. I was able to process 4-6" diameter wood pretty easily with it. The button kind of locked up on me a bit, but I think it was because the blade tension was too tight. Once I loosened it slightly, it worked fine. I'd give this a 4, or even a 5 star rating if the blade were a bit heavier. It would be awesome if they offered heavier replacement blades.
