not impressed with this....!!

when I received this and opened it the product was robust looking, I was excited to start using it for my back backing trips. bought this a year ago. only used it 2 times and it would not charge my iPhone or GPS while back-packing and camping. so just bought another one thinking it was just not enough output for one panel.....nope I was wrong just used it memorial weekend on backpacking trip and my phone actually lost charge while charging it in full sun. as i was sitting by the side of the trail with a dead cell phone and not able to track my route definitely got the feeling that I was taken advantage of. should have got that from the fist one that did not work as advertised.

Bought at a Costco road show.

Hello; I made the mistake of purchasing this at a Costco Road show. I am glad that I kept my receipt. After I purchased it, I received a email from REI saying that there is a upgrade to the power adapter. When I called Goal Zero. They would NOT upgrade the Solar Panel to the upgraded power adapter. I returned it to Costco for a warranty. Purchase not recommended. This is the first and last time I buy anything from Goal Zero. No Thanks.

The Nomad Delivers!

Since receiving my Nomad 7 Dolar Panel with the optional battery pack, I never have to power my phone any other way! Ah, freedom!

Nice features

This is my second Nomad 7 purchase, and the feature set has improved over the one I've had for 5 years, which still works well. The improvements include the multiple connections, which now allows you to chain units. The mesh pouch allows you to charge a phone or Guide 10 securely when you hang it on your pack and hike. I have used the original one to charge a GPS transceiver and dog tracking collars, a UV water purifier, headlamps. Week-long trips are no problem. I keep it in my earthquake kit.

Great panels

I bought two panels about three months ago and have loved using just the one for now. I wanted to get more power out so I tried to chain them together but the cords are too short no matter how I try to orient them.

Great idea, poorly executed.

The cords for chaining the panels together are too short. This makes it very awkward to get them into a position to actually charge. More of a novelty than something I would depend on.

Waste of time and money

The first week with the solar panel was decent. Then it completely stopped working. Won't charge a phone, won't charge an external battery. I left it in direct sunlight for 8 hours this weekend to make sure, and it added zero battery life to anything. The worst part is bringing it on a trip and figuring out halfway thru that it is not doing anything.

Backpacking on John Muir Trail

My son bought the Goal Zero Nomad 7 and showed it to me when we started the John Muir Trail. He brought 2 cameras and we had 2 iPhones (for GPS). These charging panels even charged our batteries in the rain! I was amazed at how quickly our batteries would get charged. We never had any power shortages throughout our 3-week hike. I recommend these panels to anyone going into the wilderness. Strap these outside your pack and charge as much as you want. For backpackers, weight is an important issue and these panels are perfect.

To Uganda from Colorado 15 times!

I've taken my Nomad over a dozen times to the bush in Uganda. It's totally been trashed as you can imagine, but still works fine, pumping out free electricity. If you're traveling to a developing country where there is a spotty power grid, it's an absolute necessity.

Good panels

Be aware you might not be able to power your phone straight from the panel. Youll probably need something in between like a battery pack (guide 10). I have two of these panels hooked up to a guide 10 and only charge my phone off of it. Works great.

Durable

Extremely rugged design. Works well under most lighting condition. Case has good connectivity with usb and power jack for 12v plugs, as well as output to guide 10 charger as well as the ability to connect to more panels. For the weight conscious the stated 460g is a little under the actual 507g.

Nice Portable Size

I've owned this for a few years now and I love it. It's a great size. I keep it in my car and charge up my Guide 10 Plus battery charger and then charge my car electronics when needed. Also, when camping, the Nomad 7 panels are perfect for when your hiking (strap to back of backpack and/or at camp. I'm writing this review now to let everyone know that it is a good purchase and I will miss having mine (it just got stolen out of my car the other night).

Nomad 7

I might as well have thrown 80 bucks in the garbage! I got this product about 2 days before a weeklong hunting/camping trip and with my work schedule, I didn't have time to try it out. It would not charge my iPhone any longer than a few seconds at a time or any of the portable chargers. I had three portable chargers and when I hooked them up it would indicate that they were charging however it was doing nothing at all!

Chaining and iPhone 6 charge

I chained Nomad7 ver1 to a Nomad 7 ver2 and used USB to my iPhone 6. Full sun 2 hours charged phone from 42% to 100%. Love it. Will experiment more.

Easy and Reliable

I have 2 nomad 7 solar panels and they have worked great for me over the years. One is the older model and the other one a refurbished newer model. In decent sunlight they both have charged my Samsung Galaxy S5 close to what it would be if I plugged it into a wall outlet (0.98-1.08A solar panel, 1.17-1.59A wall). They are great solar panels to have while on the go or camping.

easy to use

I bought this last year and I travel to Africa regularly which means I need to use it a lot. Electricity is not always readily available and being able to solar charge is exactly what is needed. The Nomad 7 Solar Panel is easy to carry and easy to set up and it works efficiently while in the outdoors or near a window. A MUST HAVE!!

Simple and Effective

I bought the larger panel over the one with the battery as it made more sense. The panel exceeded my expectations in varied conditions over my 3 weeks in the wilderness, it was nice having an iPhone that never ran out of power while I used time lapse and was taking a lot of photos. The panel only needs an hour and a half of opportunity to charge an iPhone 5 or 6 respectively. I pointed the panel and walked away to do things around camp. Like any panel don't expect a charge with heavy overcast, conserve battery until the opportunity arises. PS: I saw an issue where 2 iPhone 6's needed to be restarted to charge effectively; they were taking beyond 3 hours of full opportunity to get less than 1/3 of the battery charged before I had restarted them.

another quality solar panel from Goal Zero

I have Nomads 13 and 20. Got this to charge my Venture 30 power pack when hiking. As a light weight backpacker, it's against my nature to add something like this to my load. Nonetheless, I didn't notice the extra weight and it works really well for charging the portable power pack. Plus I have chained it to my other solar panels to boost the total power. Very useful product.

Very adequate equipment...

I have had the opportunity to use this cool, little solar charger on several occasions when traveling in El Salvador. I am able to charge my phone, charge / power my GZ Rock Out and also charge my Guide 10 quad AA battery set. Compact size, easy of storage and durable construction, all contribute to the value of this unit.

Tough!

I have pampered my nomad 7 thinking it would be fragile. Getting ready for a camping trip this weekend It fell off the tailgate. I backed over it with the front and rear tire of my fullsize Chevy truck. Had to bend the usb port back straight but it works like a charm I am impressed with the Quality!!!!!!!!!!

Bad USB Connections

I bought two Nomad 7's and two Rockout 2's and with both sets, I plugged the Rockout 2 into the Nomad 7 via the USB connections, and in both situations, the USB cable on the portable speakers broke. The REI employee even tried it out and it broke for him as well. The Nomad 7's USB plug is very tight, and the USB cable on the Rockout 2 is very cheap, so it's just not a good combination. I wish I could give these products a great review, but sadly I'm just not able to do so. My wife and I were really looking forward to using these products since we were so happy with the GoalZero lantern, but we were honestly let down by these other products. Let's hope you guys can rectify our issue for other customers and restore good faith :)

Nice little panel

I got mine with the intent of charging up phones directly on our island adventures, i had a second thought the Nomad 20 and yeti 150 came on sale as a camping pack so I bought those and chained this into the Nomad 20 for an extra little boost. Only complaint I have is I wish the chaining cable was at least 2 feet long as tying the two panels together and then getting them to a good angle on the sun was a wee bit difficult. But overall nice little panel worked well with my phone when I did use it directly and worked to give an extra bump to the Nomad 20 when charging my Yeti 150 Thank You Goal Zero

Nomad 7 to the rescue

Imagine being at the most important event for your child and not having enough battery on your iPad to film it. Well, I was in that situation but because of the nomad 7 I was able to capture my son's relay team winning state!!! I could of sold a hundred nomad 7's at the track meet. Very valuable product for anyone to own!

Works as expected (Nomad7 w/Guide 10)

Solar is not a straight forward technology and therefore requires a bit of knowledge to understand its weaknesses and strengths. I always charge my devices via the Nomad7 with the Guide10 as the gateway to my devices. The Guide10 does its job to insure a continuous (conditioned) flow of power to charge while the Nomad7 trickle charges the Guide10. I say trickle charge because I'm always on the go and not always getting direct sunlight. This combo does the job as needed. I even have a backup li-ion USB battery pack (also compatible with my Nomad 7) that can be used in place of the Guide10 as a backup in case I juice the Guide10 down faster than it can charge. It's a great portable setup that, with a little bit of know-how, is very dependable.

Worked great at Disneyland!

By AlohaCab

Charged my backup battery charger for my verizon galaxy nexus perfectly. Only drawback was I had to constantly reinsert the USB charging cable if I walked in and out of the sunlight since it didn't like the drop in voltage. On second day at Disneyland, switched to Guide 10 pack which manages change in charging voltage better. I got complements, like "Cool Backpack". I had to tell them that it was a normal backpack with a Goal Zero clipped to it. Folded up easily when I went on rides with the ...

WOW!!!!!

By Eric V.

This product is amazing!! I would give it total of 5 stars if the solar panel wouldn't get so hot on the actual panel. I bought the Nomad 7 at Costco's special event on Goal Zero products. Ipod touch still gets hot behind the panel. I might make a pouch for my ipod out of thermal foam wrapped in white duct tape. Over-all it is great laying down flat in the grass my battery went up 10 percent in 5 minutes. It charges my iPod touch faster then the AC USB wall wart. The solar panel puts out lots...
