I use this a lot for inside tent and outside in a group of people. Red len is my favorite at night that doesn't glare my eyes and I can see my friends talking in a circle. It's also great for inside tent. I use blue and green, depending on the brightness.

I purchased this to have a small light on hand for camping, car camping, and emergencies. I find it throws a decent amount of light, and the bulb can also be used with the Switch 8 in a pinch, but without the twisting cord. The cord holds its shape when used with the battery pack, and I can see where it could be very useful in getting the light to places you might not otherwise be able to reach.

I am currently considering a Goal Zero Panel (Nomad 7) and found this light at a sale. I bought it because it would give me an idea of the quality of Gaol Zero products and, let's face it, you can't have enough lights. I really lik ethe product. It has a great light output. The 1,5W LED really pakcs a punch. And it's a nice warm colour too. I had no trouble reading with this light. There are some issues though. The bendy wire twists. That is to say if you bend it at a 90 degree angle and point the light up it will sag. So you have to make sure the wire can't twist to prevent this prom happening. This limits your freedom of use. You don't really need to use the extention cable. You can easely plug the lamp direclty in a power pack. Then there is the temperature issue. The light get's hot really fast. Since there is no on/off switch you have to pull out the light when hot. I find it odd that the light doesn't have a switch, because of this. Somehow I think it was intended to have a switch, because the switch is mentioned on their website and in the manual. It just isn't there. The coloured filters are nice, but pretty useless. Let me explain that one. There are three coloured filters: red, blue and green. A red filter is said to preserve night vision, yet it's not only the colour that makes that possible, also a low brightness. Since this light has a minimum output of 60 lumen it's unfit to preserve night vision. Blue is for hunting or light dicipline. It's to bright and uncontrolled for light dicipline (it's a floodlight) and may be used for fluid detection when hunting. But again a floodlight would be undesireable. The green is for mapreading. Again the brightess is too high to be used in covert situations. I know, this isn't a tactical product. So you can't expect those qualities from this product. Yet it makes me wonder why they are included. For a disco party perhaps? Or from what I've read earlier, to suit the mood. My last point of critique is the lack of a storage pouch. There is no way to easely store the parts supplied. I whish Goal Zero didn't include the filters and added a pounch instead. All this critique doesn't mean I don't like the product. I bought it at a sale so I diddn't do any reserach prior to buying. The one thing that does bother me are the incorrect specifications. If both the website and the manual state that there is an on/off switch on the lamp while there isn't one on the product it makes me weary to spend ?120,- on the solar panel I wanted to buy.

Extention shaft does not support light. Light get very hot very quickly. Wasting energy as heat?

Like many others, I also found the cable to be useless in supporting the weight of the light. The light just droops over like a dead flower. Also, the particular unit I ordered was faulty, only intermittently turning on signaling a poor connection and a complete waste of money. Goal Zero has a great marketing team, but the designers and factory in China are in need of improvement. Stay away from this one. Your light could turn up faulty as well. There are cheaper and more reliable third party USB-powered lights on the market.

The Firefly USB light would be excellent if the cable was stiff enough to stay in place when positioned. However, it does not and never did even when I first pulled it out the box. It is basically useless as is and I plan on returning it.

This is a nice bright light. I like being able to aim it where I want. But that's also its downfall. The supporting bendable shaft is too bendable, and refuses to hold the light in position. the only way I was able to make is usable was to wrap a Niteize bendable cable tie around the shaft, adding some stiffness. Now it stays where I put it.
