Goal Zero claims that it will charge my phone multiple times but it only charges my phone about 70% once. What a waste of money. I'm just glad I didn't pay full price of $40. You are paying for the name "Goal Zero" all their products are way over priced and deliver zero of their claimed benefits. It is a nice looking and appears physically strong but does not deliver on power.

Your team was a huge help at the 2013 National Jamboree. I had questions on why my phone did not charge and they took to explain that I should charge the batteries during the day and then use them to charge my phone. We did not have electricity in our camp, so for 15 days we charge the battery packs during the day and then our phone and tablets at night. NO way could we have made it with out our Goal Zero products.

I purchased this to charge my iPhone 6 on the go. I have other Goal Zero products and LOVE them. I have had this for about 3 weeks, and each time I plug my phone into it to charge it, it only increases my battery life around 20-30%. Not worth the money. Should have bought another Mophie.

I bought this a while ago and when it did work it was not very quick or powerful when recharging. I had it for about a month and then it just stopped recharging anything. The lights would indicate it was fully powered, but it wouldn't kick any juice out.

I bought a backpacking solar panel and a switch 8 battery for a backpacking trip through Torres Del Paine in South America. My plan was to use the panels and battery to keep my GoPro fully charged during the trip so I could record over the 10 days. For a few days, everything worked great and I had no trouble. However, on the 4th day, my switch 8 randomly stopped charging any devices. It was able to charge from the panels as I could see the lights indicating flashing, but for some reason it would not give out any charge to external devices. Pretty much ruined my plan for recording the entire trip. Was able to get some of the trip by directly charging whichever GoPro battery I was not currently using with the solar panel, but needless to say it was a pretty bad experience for me. Not sure if I just got a dud that stopped working after 4-5 days, but if you are planning on using external batteries to keep devices charged while backpacking/doing other activities where you will be away from outlets, make sure you don't 100% rely on this battery in case something like what happened to me happens to you.

I use the Switch 8 while bikepacking to capture extra current from my dynamo hub, which I use to keep GPS and other devices going. Hookup is dynamo>switch 8>devices, so I need the ability to charge a device while the Switch 8 itself is getting current (pass-through). Many devices don't have this. Also very glad to have the blue LEDs that indicate how charged the battery is. My only hesitation is that the output USB port is hinged (nice) but on a pin that doesn't seem especially robust. Time will tell.

I got my switch 8 a few weeks ago and while I'm impressed with some of the design features and the weight mine never charges above 25% no matter what method I use to try and charge it up.

Got one for Christmas, and two more for my birthday. I hike often and like to track my hikes with gps on my iPhone, a real battery drainer. I can go all day without worry and keep my GoPro charged as well.

I take a 1 hour bus commute one way each day. I have used my charger to keep my phone going on many trips. I never need to worry about draining all of my power while watching a movie or listening to music.

I purchased this for my wife but actually the kids have used it more to power back up their iPods, great product.

The portable battery is perfect for charging a smartphone in the backcountry, in cities, and during travel. The Switch 8 is light-weight and an easy shape to pack. I am able to charge my iPhone one full charge using the battery. If you do buy this Switch 8 without a solar panel, the battery does not include a USB to USB wire that allows you to charge the battery from a wall charger. This will have to be purchased separately, unfortunately.

Portable and efficient, it charges quickly from its USB port. It then resides in my purse, and quickly recharges my 3-year-old iPhone5, which has a fading battery, giving me extra time away from a wall outlet.

Bought two weeks ago and I've already used it multiple times with no issues. Was worried at first as i've had issues with other brands, but goal zero again lived up to their name.

I took one of these on a 32-day hike on the Appalachian Trail. B/c there are so many places to get off the trail to supply up and recharge, I was able to use it with my iPhone charger plug, and I had 2+ iPhones worth of power to get me to the next re-supply. Also have the Nomad 7 solar panels, but didn't bring due to weight. Will test the panels when I'm on trail in CA, and have fewer places to get power up electrically.

I purchased the Goal Zero kit for a 6 day canoe trip and to keep my cell and Garmin 705 charged. Paired up they performed well - did take some active management of the solar panel to make the best use of the sun - keeping it pointed the best way

I bought this a while back and I love it. I use if when i'm on the road and at the airport. I'm military and i'm usually on the go so this is very useful to keep my cell topped off. Its worth the investment especially if you are a hiker and spend most of your time outdoors.

I bought the Goal Zero Switch 8 for a trip to the UK knowing that I won't have access to electricty throughout the day. I've used GZ Switch 8 several times and it's a convenient charger that I can carry in my purse. My kids love the extra charger too for the iphones.

I was looking for a small recharable backup battery for my phone when I know it will be a long day of traveling. The switch was just right. While I do have a larger battery in my phone this is enought to get me back in the game for a half day of phone life. At one point I thought this was to have changeable ends with the correct attachement. Guess that was not in the final design. Add chanagble tips like the usg 2.0 on the charge side and this would be the best EDC carry item ever.

I bought the Nomad 7 with the intent of charging my iPhone 4s while out kayaking. I was out on a sunny day with the solar panel angled exactly like the picture is shown, and it would not charge my phone. It recognized that it was plugged in, but the battery will not actually charge. I recommend using a higher watt panel if you intend to charge an iPhone.

Needs a removable battery and compatibility with Li-ion 18650 batteries. This power pack is ok, but at 2200 mAh it does not have the capacity of other options. The latest Li-ion battery of equivalent size has 3600 mAh, a significantly larger capacity. Throw in an output of 5.0V/?2.1A and the option to replace the battery and you'll have a great charger. Until then, I will not be recommending this to friends because there are too many other products with better capacity for a lower price.

This is a good portable battery. Charges in a few hours, I keep it plugged in to the wall or my solar panel. This, along with the Nomad 7 make a good duo. The battery charges one of my devices on one charge. Can fully revive my phone or Itouch. If you want more from a portable battery, i suggest looking at the medium range stuff, this is the most minimal option. I went along with it for the convenience and price. High quality for the price but I wouldnt mind stepping up to a higher range portable battery.

Use these products to charge cell phones while up camping. Used Nomad 7 on trip, just set on dash and charged using sun while traveling.
