Good product, but unfortunately the input port is mini-usb not micro-usb or even better usb-c.

I bought my Guide 10 about a year ago second hand as I couldn't find a retailer that stocked them in New Zealand. It's over 2 years old was used a lot by the previous owner and is still in perfect working order. It charges from my generic 10W Solar panel via USB and will happily charge my iPad, iPhone6S or iPod. It came with a set of AA and AAA batteries and the holder plus a few extra batteries of another brand. I bought it to go in my Campervan so I can charge AA and AAA batteries for various things from my 200W roof mounted Solar Panel. I also use it at home to charge up AA and AAA batteries for various devices using my 10W generic panel in the window. Would have been great to have this in my Emergency kit during the 2011 Earthquakes here in New Zealand as we were without power for over a month. The only negative is that you have to charge 4 batteries at once, so you might need to buy an extra set if you need 4 and want to cycle them through charging and use. It would also benefit from having 4 lights to show you the charge for 25% 50% 75% and full.

I have had the Guide 10 Plus for about a year now. I love all the features, but once I dropped it, (not a high hight it chipped. Wish it was as durable as the other GoalZero products I own.

Earlier models of the Guide 10 Plus had one critical design flaw: If the batteries are inserted revered the charger destroys itself within seconds. I lost two chargers when inserting the batteries accidentally incorrectly in low-light-conditions. This design flaw is finally fixed. I recently measured the USB charging and USB power generation efficiency: When charging 4 AA NiMH batteries approximately 65% - 70% of the energy ends up in the batteries. The rest becomes heat. When discharging 4 AA NiMH batteries 60% - 80% of the battery power makes it to the USB outlet. The rest becomes heat. I noticed that efficiency is particular low when the USB current high and this is unavoidable due to the battery chemistry. I would find the Guide 10 Plus more useful if the USB outlet is regulated down to a maximum current of 0.5 A to have a higher efficiency. Charging would take longer but the efficiency seams more important to me when using the devise as a power bank.

I bought my Guide 10 Power Bank as part of a package several years ago. I have probably used it a dozen times. Now it has died completely. From reading lots of other reviews on multiple sites, sadly, this does not sound uncommon. I really hope that they have fixed this in their newer Guide 10s.

I purchased the Guide 10 Plus in December, 2017. This May, went with me on a 950 km 2-week bike tour. The Nomad 7 solar panel would charge my Galaxy 6 to about 80% during a normal day's ride in bright sun. However, the Guide 10 battery pack would not hold a charge (it charged my phone twice before it began to die). It would not charge with the Nomad 7 nor with a USB wall wart. It would show a green LED ("powered up") when first plugged into my phone, but within seconds would turn red ("no power"). Then the little 3-way switch broke so I couldn't even use the unit as a flashhlight. Piece of junk, basically. However, when I complained to Goal Zero they had their Canadian supplier, Microcel, replace my unit. My only cost was mailing the defective unit in. I can only hope that the new one lasts longer than six months of light use.

While I understand that this only comes with a limited warranty, I purchased a second Guide 10 Plus to keep my phones charged while on the trail. As a Scout leader, I need to have emergency access - just in case. After a year of use, Guide 10 Plus will NOT charge any battery. Once plugged in, it cycles between two green lights and one red one. I left the charger on overnight - with no changes. Having a second Guide 10 Plus, I was able to remove the batteries from the malfunctioning one, put them in the second one, and have the batteries charge. Therefore, it is not the batteries, but something is wrong with the Guide 10 Plus unit itself. If the second unit dies within the next year, I'll be looking for another company that has a longer warranty. I cannot afford to take chances with a product that only lasts one year.

I was really enthusiastic about the concept this charger presents but have been disappointed in performance. I have an LG G5 with a USB-C input, and my battery pack will show a full charge and 10 minutes later be completely drained. My phone will have gained only a 1-2% battery boost if that.

I owned this product for more than a year now but I just use the light switch today and found it intermittent. The light go on and off until I holded and pressed it a bit then the light is firmed. However, still it seems not stable. I reckon the switch contact is bad already. Anyway, overall the battery compartment and overall construction looked good to me.

I bought this this month as a solution to managing AA and AAA resources in the "field". I use a Garmin E-Trex, a mag-light, a AAA LED headlamp, and a Nikon AA powered Digital camera. I no longer have to start watching my battery usage. If the sun comes out, this is a very good charger and in a few hours I have four fresh batteries. I have also used it to bump up my Lighthouse 250, and a cell phone. rch

This is the second Guide 10 Plus I've purchased. The first works fine five years on, but I needed to expand to a second rig. I've backpacked with it for years, used it to charge phones, GPS, swapping batteries for headlamps. It is durable and reliable. It is cool to be able to charge AA or AAA with any USB source as well as a solar panel.

I bought this item with a dual purpose use in mind. One for batteries for my headlamp and flashlight and second to use as a power pack for my android phone. Item works good for the batteries but is next to useless for charging my cell phone. I usually get a 10 to 15% boost in my cellphone battery power from the fully charged guide 10 but that is all before it needs to be charged again. Thinking it was the batteries I tried a new set with same results.

Worked well while it lasted but seems cheaply made. Poor, Cheap, components on the circuit side (bad soldering job too). This device should be moister sealed. FOR $50 you can do much better. The solar panel works well though.

I like this product but I'm a little disappointed. The fact that you can charge batteries from solar power in the field is really really awesome. That alone make this product worth it. However it barley charged smart phones. When ever I plug in my phone is says "slow charge please connect to your original charger". Goal Zero was even nice enough to send me a little adapter, free of charge, to correct the issue. Still didn't give a normal charge. So make of that what you will. I hope Goal Zero revamps this product to fit better in the world of Smart phones. But if you use a lot of batteries in the filed you really should own this product. I wish I could give 3 1/2 stars

Good design as well as functionality with the AA recharge batteries. Often used a Radio Shack charger before but was not dependable. Bought several as gifts as well.

I use the Guide 10 Plus with my Nomad 20 to keep a set of AA & AAA fully charged for my GPS and head lights. Either size fully charged in under 3 hours with the Nomad 20.

I love the idea and used mine for about 2 months to test it as an emergency power source. Then my phone battery was dying so I plugged it in... No power... I thought since I hadn't powered it in several months the batteries were bad. I tested them and reconditioned them (2 sets, but no power. I plugged it into the solar charger, it got power. But the batteries didn't work. I called and thank goodness I registered my unit so they said they'd replace it. Also, I bought it at REI who refunded my money. It worries me that it died since I want this for an emergency power source, but I'm impressed how they back up their product.

Got this a few years ago for keeping devices charged while camping and it worked great with my iphone 4 and some other electronics. Super happy. This summer, though, tried it with the iphone 5 (and more recently a 6), and found it never charged the phone, in spite a full day in the sun and a new set of batteries. Then noticed that the housing had melted around the LED. Either way it doesn't charge my primary device (iPhone 6) off the USB port which is my main application.

This does not charge an iPhone. Nor an iPad. The GZ stick light I bought as a companion only stays lit for 30 minutes. I'm returning it to where I bought it. I tried for a month of car camping and backpacking before deciding.

Nice for charging AAs and will charge devices but could not fully charge my smartphone while I was listening to music on it. I tend to use it more as a controller to charge my USB power pack with my solar panels.

I bought one at Cosco to use with my Kindle and since then have bought one more to keep in my every day pack with a Goal Zero solar charger to charge my phone, second Kindle fire, and AAA batteries with adapter. All of my Goal Zero products I have bought at Cosco. I watch on line to see when Goal Zero products are going to be in the store near by.

My iPhone 5 was down to 38%. Plugged in the Guide 10, and it quit charging at 51%. 13% recharge isnt even close to "1 smartphone charge" Was thinking of buying a Sherpa 50 or 100, but if they only charge 1/10th of their supposed "ratings" they aren't worth the price either. At least the solar panel charges my Rock Out Speakers....

This will take an iPhone 5s to about 80%. Was hoping for more! And to boot the output of the nomad 10 solar won't charge the device directly.

This simple charger has been really convenient for our hiking and camping trips as well as small power outages. It's small and works great for the price. If you are looking for something cheap to use while camping or hiking I would recommend the Guide 10 Plus.

One month off grid in the Himalayas
By Uncle M.
I don't understand the comments stating that the guide 10 plus will not charge an iPhone 4S. I charged the guide 10 plus during the day while trekking in the Himalayas - typically charged in only 2-3 hours. At night I would plug my completely dead iPhone 4S into the guide 10 plus and in the morning (like magic) it would be 100% charged! I found that even after charging my dead iPhone there was power left to charge another device - members of my team were constantly asking to me to charge thei...

And after it cant charge anything the light works!
By Neo
OK use the Nomad 20 panel to charge this guide 10 plus for a better time, also it was able to get my nokia 920 two full charges. AND then after it went to a red light, meaning the charging was not able to work the L.E.D. I would leave on for 24 hours and still it would work.. it was great to mark my tent at night... Also buy the case for it to keep the temp down cause if the item heats up, it will not charge or dis charge what so ever!! -Neo
