The Pharos has one of the best prices of any GPS products. It seems to work ok for jpeg images, but I shoot RAW. I only use the Pharos software to download the GPS data and save it in .gpx format. I use a freeware program, Geosetter[@] to tag my images using the .gpx file. The GPS reciever is quite small and easy to take with you. The connection to the battery pack got loose within about 6 months and now I have a rubber band to keep the unit connected to the battery pack. Overall I like the product, despite the workaround required for my workflow, and would recommend the Pharos GPS if using the additional software.

After three weeks Pharos' support has failed to provide a solution to my problems. Living in Europe and using a non US time & date setting on my PC it is not possible to download logs from this hardware to the software. Only if I (temporary) change the regional settings to English (United States) the logs can be downloaded. And when I try to link data to photos I get a 'Not allowed to access the folder' note, no matter where I store the photos. To register the product was impossible, even after the tip in Jeff G's review, without help from support, which then replied within ten minutes. The thing stopping me from sending the Pharos Trips & Pics back is that it would cost almost as much as I paid for it.

You can't do geo tagging by just using the included CD and there is no information anywhere that says that. You have to download an upgrade software from Pharos site to be able to use it. You first have to register the product to be able to download the upgrade. It's also very hard to register the product because it keep asking for a Registration Code# I don't have. I only have the UPC, Part# and Serial#. I didn't know that the Registration Code# is the Model# of the product (I discovered it via Lucky Guess). I could have given it a 5 star but the frustration I went through prevented me from doing that. They could have at least included a complete instructions manual in the CD. It's a great product once you got it going.

The Pharos Trips and Pics is a trip recorder combined with photo journal. It allows you to track your trips along with trip photos and share the trip experience using Google Earth or Microsoft Streets and Trips
Make and log any journey! Pharos Trips and Pics captures your location and time automatically at any interval you set. Time your training runs. Record your child's athletic event. Show that great bicycle trip with times and photos. Save the memories from a great vacation.
Send the files to friends and family so they can see your photos and where and when you took the pictures. Add text to share even more information. Display your trips with photos on Google Earth or Microsoft Streets & Trips.
Pharos Trips and Pics automatically compensates for any difference between your camera's time and true GPS time, so the information is precise. Depending on the rate you set, the Pharos GPS logger can store from 1 ½ to 45 days of times and locations. The rechargeable battery will run the unit for 24 hours. An AC adapter is included in the package
How Can You Use Trips & Pics?
In the old days when you wanted to share your pictures you usually had to get an extra set of prints for each person you wanted to send the pictures. That changed quite a bit when digital cameras came on the scene because you no longer had to put up with the timeand expense of getting prints-you could just e-mail the pictures. Extra copies didn't cost you anything!
But if digital images were easier to share, they still didn't convey any extra information. Sure, you could e-mail the pictures, butwould they really mean anything to the person who received them? Maybe this new way to share your pictures needed something more.
Trips & Pics provides something more. When you use Trips & Pics to share your photos you can not only share the images themselves, but now you have a bit more, too. Trips & Pics brings back the element of telling a story through showing people where you took the pictures. It does so by displaying the photos on an interactive map using Google Earth or Microsoft Streets & Trips. Now people can feel like they're really a part of your trip and that makes it a whole lot more fun for everyone.
Sharing Vacation Pictures
Probably the first thing that comes to mind with Trips & Pics is sharing the photos from your vacation. Imagine how much more interesting your pictures will be when your friends and relatives can see them interactively. Not only will they see the photos, butthey'll also see a map showing where and when you took the pictures. They'll even be able to follow along the path you took on your trip.
