Questions about this item:

Melina K  Will I be able to use this with both Mac and Windows? I need to transfer materials from my Mac and give it to someone with a PC.
BRUCE D  To use with both Mac and Windows, you'll need to format the drive as either FAT32 or ExFAT. Mac drives are usually HFS+ format and Windows is mainly NTFS. Macs can mount NTFS volumes read-only. Windows can't mount HFS+ volumes (without 3rd party software) at all. FAT32 has a max file size of 4GB. If none of your files are that big, than this won't be a problem. Some people say that ExFAT is less reliable for hard drives but it does not have the limit that FAT32 has. Sorry it's not an easy answer, but I hope this helps.
Melina K  I have an older laptop that has USB 2.0 ports. Will I be able to connect this without any problems?
BRUCE D  Yes, this will work with USB 2.0 computers. The drive itself has a special USB 3.0 only connector, but the box includes a cable with a standard USB 2.0 connector. So just plug it in and it will work.
Shopper  Is the back up automatic after you connect it to your computer or do you have to set up backup?
BRUCE D  The G-Drive doesn't come with backup software. However, if you're using it with a Mac, the Time Machine feature should pop up and ask you if you want to use the new drive for backups. If you enable this, then backups will be pretty much automatic. This will work with pretty much any drive you connect. Time Machine doesn't care about the brand. The G-Tech drives are very solidly built and are a good choice for backups, either Time Machine or manual ones.
