I use this assembly with an Olympus E-3 camera. The video pin on the plate misses the dimple on the camera by an eighth of an inch, allowing the camera to turn with only moderate pressure. If the pin could seat in the dimple, the camera would be much more stable.

I did not know that Giottos tripods use female threads while my Manfratto has a male thread. Easily solved by removing both screws and replacing them with a longer screw and lock nut with a washer.

This is a friction clamp. There is no distinct click when the clamp is made. Works very well.

I bought these items thinking they would be compatible with the Manfrotto gear I have lots of. I just needed quick release from my D700 using a hand strap. Not really easy to do becasue of the way these hand straps are attached. I guess I should have asked first about compatibility. I gave them to my daughter who is just starting out and she is very happy with them. [...]

The 642 camera plate is rubber covered, not cork as mentioned in the item description. The video pin can be easily removed if not needed (SLR mount). The base of the Quick Release Assembly could be thicker though since a ball head will only interface with a small portion of the bottom of the assembly. I wouldn't push it much past the 10 lb range. The safety lever is great. Requires user to squeeze the release and rotate the lever to release the plate from the Quick Release Assembly (QRA), but beware, the plate is slightly spring loaded in the QRA and may pop out of the QRA when released if the plate is not mounted to a camera (weighted down). The three-way bubble level is a plus for tripod work. Also, as mentioned in a previous review, the 642 only provides for a ¼ camera mount and the 652 only provides for a 3/8 mount. Over-all the assembly is of good quality. Nice finish no sharp edges or corners. Definitely would recommend to a fellow enthusiast.

It's great, it's wonderful, but... My Giottos tripod system came with a quick release. I wanted to standardize so I ordered three sets of the MH 652 units for use with my copy stand and other tripods. When I tried to install the first unit I discovered that the base only mounts to a 3/8" screw, and not to the 1/4" on all my other gear! The quick release plate itself only offers a 1/4" screw for mounting to the camera but that wasn't a problem for me. If you plan to order this, you may also want to buy some 3/8" to 1/4" bushings.

· Using a base plate that features 3 bubble levels that easily and accurately level your camera in any position, the MH-652 quick release assembly is a compact quick release system that is the same as the one used with the MH5000/5001 3-way pan head.
· It is cork covered, with a slot permitting your camera to be adjusted 0.75" to ensure the best balance for your camera. For easy use with video and many digital cameras, the plate features a centering "video" pin. A 1.75" double action safety lever releases the camera plate from the base.
