I use this with my Grottos MH 5310 ballhead. The clamp is strong enough to hold my Nikon 3100 with a 70-300 MM lens attached. The only problem I had was tightening it the first time on the ball head. Once I used the hex key to tighten it down, I've had no problems since.

Went to tighten the plate one day, under NORMAL FINGER STRENGTH tightening the knob fell right off.

Was great and great value...right up until it broke. Looking at it, there is a clear design flaw that causes a weak spot on the clamp knob. It sheared off after very little light use.

The knob just fell off after 2 months. All but good material. I don't think I'm willing to make a 2nd experience with Giottos clamps or tripods.
Rippy
The MH-655 is compatible with style of plates that fit the "Arca Swiss" standard. It is an ultra-compact "clamp" style quick release system, which features both horizontal and vertical bubble levels, as well as anti-twist reversible tabs on the plate that prevent slippage when using the head in a vertical position.
