This monopod is nothing if not stout. For me it's as much a walking stick as a monopod. I'm 220lbs and so that it's sturdy is a good thing. But, I was surprised at the size, mostly the large diameter. It's a handfull at the foam grip. It's surprisingly light given it's size and strength. My biggest complaint is the foot. It flexes nicely to sit well on any surface, even at quite an angle, but has not much of a gripping sole on the bottom and so slides easily on anything but a very clean course surface. That's not so much a problem for the monopod function, but definitely not good for the hiking stick function. It needs a carbide tipped foot that can replace the rubber foot. Also, a hiking stick needs an adjustable strap and this unit does not have that.

Hard to tell by pictures and description what it's really like. This unit is well put together and looks like it cost lots more. A little heavy with a 2lb. head but I'm not a hiker. Sturdy like a tree trunk. May purchase snow shoe for use in beach sand. Came with small case, but won't hold pod with head attached. Very pleased with choice, expect to get giottos tripod in near future

Use of a monopod is highly recommended for photographers seeking value for money and versatility. Monopods are specially designed for photographers on the move, for all styles of photography such as fashion or sports.
With a monopod you can support heavy still and video cameras, make instant changes to angle and position in restricted spaces and capture that perfect moment first time. For use in mud or snow, the specially designed rubber foot accessory gives full support by spreading the load.
Made primarily from aluminum alloy, the all-metal construction of the MM 9000 Series gives a feeling of solidity and confidence. Its surfaces are carefully polished twice, so its sections lock firmly and can be released quickly.
Finally, the monopod is anodised to preserve the sheen of the original aluminum, or a pure black finish. The MM 9000 Series reflects the photographer's individuality; it catches the eye, and reflects its own special style.
