I have used the Giottos carbon fiber tripod equipped with an Acratech ball head, and have found it to be a perfectly stable platform for use as a copy-stand and for long (500mm) telephoto use. My only complaint is that it is relatively heavy when positioning the tripod and camera.

This is a stable base that I can travel with. I will never gve up my Gitzo (30 lbs.) for local heavy duty use but this tripod is a dream for travel by air. The heavy duty case is perfect for on board use. It is somewhat expensive but worth every penny for the photographer that requires and uses tripods for the best images.

The MT Series Tripods have a unique style and are highly versatile. The legs are made of French-made high-strength carbon fiber tubing used commonly in aerospace engineering, it yields exceptional stability for its weight. Carbon fiber materials are extremely shock & vibration absorbant, yet relatively lightweight.
The Carbon Fiber used for these legs radiate a High-Tech due to the the spiral grain which is visible on the surface, and is made from 12 layers. They have a diameter of 32mm. The leg surfaces are finely polished twice, giving the ultimate in lock ability and agility, before finally being anodized in clear aluminum or black finish.
With a load capacity of 26 lb, this tripod is ideal for all camera formats, in the field or on location. The center column brace allows the column to be used as a lateral arm with angle adjustment, especially ideal for nature & micro photography.
The column can also be used upside down or reversed. It allows 360° horizontal and 180° vertical adjustment, & the column can be positioned & set quickly with the locking knob.
