I tried a bunch of tripods but they all would fail when I would rent something li8ke a Canon 400mm/2.8. The image in Live View would drift no matter how tight I clamped down on the legs and head. I saw that Peter Lik used a 5541LS on his shoots and loved it, so I got this 5542LS and I am 100% happy. I put a used Swiss Arca Z1 ball head and it's absolutely rock solid, and I'm talking up on the side of Camelback Mtn with 30mph winds using a 70-200mm/2.8 with Tele-extender. Yes, it's expensive... I bit the bullet 3 years ago and have never regretted it once.

This may be the last tripod I would ever need to buy. I had thought of buying the Gitzo GT4542LS model but am very glad I bought this model instead. With my Nikon F5 + 200-400mm zoom lens (with a Kirk lens plate attached instead of the Nikon foot), it balances perfectly. It is surprising light for its capability. I am 6'1", and with the legs fully extended, I only need to put on a pair of tennis shoes to align my eyes to the camera's viewfinder. I basically bought this model for that feature, and after extensive research. The puchase comes with a set of rubber feet and a set of feet for snow surface. A very nice bonus. I also purchased the Gitzo GC5100 bag for it. I believe I was lucky as the bag is now discontinued. This tripod with the Jobu BWG-HD3 gimbal head attached fits nicely into that bag. I can never be happier with this twin purchase. Thank you Adorama.

Purchased for use with my wimberley head and my 600mm f4. Unbelievable stability and not as heavy I expected. Necessary investment for any super telephoto lens!
