Four stars instead of 5 because nothing is perfect. The camera on a tripod can be set up and the shutter triggered from a distance so as not to scare the subject. It is simple, durable and reliable. The receiver fits firmly in the camera's remote connector. Replacement batteries are readily available. The receiver can be mounted on the hot shoe for convenience and to eliminate any tug on the connection to the camera's remote jack. Since it is a radiofrequency transmitter, it does not require a line-of-site to trigger the shutter, as is the case with an infrared remote. The connector cable should be about 2 cm longer so the receiver attaches to the hot shoe with some slack. Note that it is not necessary to attach the receiver to the hot shoe--merely a means to avoid dangling the receiver from the remote jack on the camera. An 80 meter range is a bit exaggerated in my experience. The instructions are given as drawings and their meaning is somewhat obscure. However, the unit is simple and straightforward to learn and use. I emailed Hahnel twice with a query and a suggestion to lengthen the connector cord--I received a prompt reply to both. I recommend this product if you need a remote shutter release.
